Excellent read
This is a great little book that shows you the different types of portrait photography, why, how and when they’re used. It is not an exhaustive treatise, but it does give you the fundamentals as a starting point which you can then build on with experience and further reading. It’s an absolutely brilliant book for beginners looking to understand portraiture

Insightful and inspiring
Another great book full of tips and insights with examples from great photographers to explain the theory. Certainly has made me rethink my approach to portrait and street photography and I’m excited to try some of the techniques discussed. It’s not a technical manual but rather how to compose, use light, colour, exposure etc to convey emotions and experiences. Very insightful and inspiring.

Useful and provocative, although perhaps a little two art school for many people
A thought-provoking book which offers some insights into photographing people. While some of the included photographs had me wondering why anybody would want a photograph like them, the analysis is insightful and can help expand you photographic horizons. Technical explanations are good and look like crisp, simple definitions of complex controls. I say "look like" as I am already technically competent so maybe a beginner might have a different view. The advice certainly seemed good to me.

Handy sized guide for amateur photographers
Bought this as a birthday present for a friend who is a keen amateur photographer. He was absolutely delighted with it. The size makes it easy to carry around when you out & about taking photos. He like the fact that you can dip in & out of the book for tips and that you don’t have to sit down & read it through from cover to cover.

This is the book about portrait photography that I re-read the most
There are many fine books about the art of portrait photography, and many more books that simply show the work of great portrait photographers (some of whom, like Salgado, are primarily photojournalists). But I re-read this one more than any. It is brief, inexpensive, not at all teccy or nerdy, and is packed with wisdom. And includes wonderful examples by some of the greats. For once the bold title is justified.

Straight to the point.
Really enjoyed this book. Yes, it's a little short but that's one of the things I liked about it. It's short as there's no waffle. Think about this, try this idea, this works like this etc. Definitely worth the money I paid.

To the point!
Henry's Schreibstil ist sehr angenehm und "To the point".
