Bought for my daughters 2nd birthday. Out of all the toys/ presents she got this is the one that caught her attention the must. I went for wooden food to go with a previous set of Melissa & Doug food, I believe it will last longer and age better than its plastic competitors. It just has a much nicer feel to it. The eye catching colours, chunky appeal of the well made wooden food. The velour is of a good quality and has much life in it. She did need assistance the first couple of times playing with this item, but after a while she got use to the motion. Good for fine motor skills. Only problem now is I have bits of chopped up wooden food everywhere!

My three yr old daughter really enjoys playing with this toy. She loves cutting up the food on the cutting board as the sound of the wooden knife on the board and cutting through the velcro, makes it quite realistic. It comes in a lovely wooden crate-style box. I am not sure how durable it is at the moment as we haven't had it long, but it seems well made and solid. Pieces have been dropped on the ceramic floor and so far no marks or chips on the toys.

I recently bought one of these for my niece's 2nd birthday and despite being surrounded by many toys that day she seemed to have a lot of fun with it. The set seems really nice. It's an all wooden sandwich type set with replica sliced bread, baguette, tomato, apple, carrot and more (see photos) and comes with a wooden knife and chopping board. Some items slice along their length, others across it or even into quarters or slices so there's a few ways to essentially do the same thing and I can imagine it being great for developing motor skills and co-ordination. I hope my niece will get much enjoyment from it and can't wait for her to become the world's fastest chopper. I can't really comment on long term use at this point but it all seems solid and well made and looks better than the plastic alternatives.

I noticed this when looking for something completely different, and thought it might be a nice gift for my niece's youngest girl, who is 5. I had it in 'Saved For Later' and when the price was reduced I couldn't resist it...only £5.99! It a beautiful play kit and much larger than I expected, which is in no way a complaint! It also arrived earlier than I expected, which is also a bonus! Thank you as always to Amazon and this seller!

I don't normally write a lot of reviews , but I felt I had to for these items , being a Grandfather to 4 girls im constantly looking for good quality toys for the girls , these items are the best ive ever come across they are so realistic for the children that they have hours of fun playing with them , the quality is top class , and the fact that they are stuck together by Velcro adds to the realistic effect for the children , I love these items so much that I have purchased 4 sets already and id highly recommend Melissa and Doug products to any one

This is a very good quality toy and provides hours of entertainment. We have had it for over 6 months and it's still going strong and still a big hit. The food are a great replica and easily recognizable as what they should be, the Velcro is very strong and has survived continuous cutting and resealing. I can't fault this toy in anyway. My twins are 2 and a half and it is one of their favorite toys.

Bought this as a gift for my nephew, I had it delivered straight to him so I didn't see the product but I am assured it was excellent quality and, more to the point, he loves it. I think it is appealing to the eye and I am told it really stretches his imaginative play....the other day he was "barbequeing" the food on a home-made grill. I will buy more of these as gifts and probably for my own children when they are old enough.

I ordered this for my 2.5 year old daughter who is VERY curious about the kitchen, cooking, etc. She has a play kitchen and tons of plastic "play food", however, I have found that she loses interest in them quickly overall (the play kitchen keeps her attention longer if/when we allow her to use real water in the pots and non-draining sink...). If this sounds like your child, read on! The Melissa & Doug Cutting Food set has been a total A+!! It does actually make a crunch sound when she cuts because of the Velcro between the slices which she seems to really enjoy. I am always leery of buying sets with so many pieces because she just doesn't seem to want to use them for their intended purpose, or the sets don't appeal to her. That is NOT the case with this set!! She loves it for what it is! The pieces have a nice weight because they are constructed from wood. It comes with a wooden knife that has a realistic shape that's rounded at the bottom just enough that it doesn't seem that it would cause damage or scratching if it is used on surfaces other than the cutting board it comes with. My 9 year old son even likes the set! He also likes using them to practice chopping and cutting (he started learning how to make basic recipes in the real kitchen a year ago). But, the thing he really enjoys about it, in his words, "using it to do factions"! It gives him a nice visual for what a 1/4 means when he can chop the pepper into quarters and he now understands reducing basic fractions because of this set - when he chops the pepper or watermelon in half, he started by calling one of the halves 2/4, but visually it made sense to him that 2/4 is also 1/2! If your child or children are in a Montessori School or Daycare, I highly recommend purchasing this set - they will love it! It is great for building and practicing practical life skills. It comes in its own wooden tray (the tray does not have handles, but it is an appropriate size and has ample sides to keep the items from spilling out) making clean up and storage easy for even the youngest kids. I saw in some of the reviews that people complained about the smell - there was no chemical or paint smell to ours, it only has a slight wood smell. My best guess is that Melissa & Doug changed the products that they use on it since those reviews were written. The Velcro seems very good, although we'll see how it will hold up to multiple kids over several years. You could probably replace the Velcro with some effort, if it is needed - but I don't know that it would be the easiest job.

Autant prévu pour les petites filles que les petits garcon, c'est le jouet préféré de mon filleul. Il passe sa journée à me préparer de bon petits plats et de bon sandwich. La qualité est vraiment au rendez vous autant la peinture le bois ou encore les vlecro qui permettent de "recoller" les légumes entre eux. Le plateau de rangement est vraiment appréciable et je recommande vivement ce jouet car les enfants de 2 à 10 ans s'éclatent vraiment tous ensemble. J'espère que ce commentaire vous a été utile.
