Yes works on wood, no problem, needs to be smooth though. So a skateboard would be fine

Should I remove the tape wham the paint is wet or dry

The instructions (who reads them?!) say: "Remove the tape while the paint is still wet for the best results."

can you use this tape for ceiling cracks and then plater over it

I would think that there were cheaper solutions than using frog tape for this. Although you probably could, I wouldn't recommend it as it has a coating on it that is activated when you paint over it that causes the bond at the edge which gives the clean line. This bonding agent could affect the plaster and reduce its effectiveness/ life.
