I almost never write a review but this little paint sprayer is excellent. Super simple to operate and gives a fantastic finish. I did three practice pieces (the backs of some Besta cabinet doors) before getting the hang of it and spraying near flawlessly. I couldn't understand the stick doodad that is meant to help you dilute by 10% at a time, so I just used a digital kitchen scale instead. Cleaning was straightforward, every part comes apart easily and can be washed. I love this paint sprayer, great value for the money. I'm sure there are fancier sprayers out there, but for my needs it's just the thing.

First, let me say that this was the first paint sprayer I have ever used after hearing bad reviews of paint sprayers in general from other people, I’m a perfectionist and I hate painting fences. I was using water-based sprayable fence paint diluted by 5-10% water (as per the instructions) onto brand-new unpainted fence panels. It is also worthy of note that I got through the paint at about twice the rate the manufacturer suggests you will on the side of the container, so make sure you buy enough. The spraygun itself is exactly as good as I could’ve expected it to be for £50. Easy to set up, easy to use and delivers a good finish, in general. Also very easy to clean. The only slightly negative side I have for the gun is that the pot which holds the paint is quite small, so you find yourself having to stop painting quite quickly to refill the pot again, but this is only a small downside. If you want a paint sprayer to do a few fence panels a year, this has worked well for me recently. A good paint sprayer. However... My question to you is whether you really need a paint sprayer depending on your needs and how much of a perfectionist you are. The gun is very good at painting flat fence panels which are not rough to touch. Because the spray comes out in quite a fine mist, it is not very good at giving an even and thick finish on the rougher areas as it is on the smooth areas of wood, and in the corners and the angles of the fence panels. The paint can also tend to run quite quickly if you cover an area with too much. You will therefore find yourself having to apply a second coat in order to get a deep and even finish. You will also need to use a brush to touch up the harder to reach corner areas of the panels. And depending on how much of a perfectionist you are you will also have to spend a reasonable amount of time masking up the areas that you don’t want to end up overspraying onto. And don’t even think about using this (or probably any spraygun) to paint the fence when there’s anything above about a 5 mph wind. In summary, if you are spraying a lot of flat fence panels where you don’t have a concern for overspray going onto your neighbours conservatory, kickboards which are of a different colour to the fence panel itself and you’re not a perfectionist about the detail of having to use a brush to get into the corners to get an even, thick-paint look then using a spray gun such as this will be right up your street because it is undoubtedly faster than doing it all by hand - and you won’t be disappointed with this model. But if you are a perfectionist and want a very even very high quality look to your fence panels, you will probably spend just as much time masking up areas you don’t want to spray by accident and touching up the areas that the gun can’t get to very well with a brush, so you might as well just do the whole thing by brush.

Very useful for fence spraying, but easily gets clogged

It was a little over four months after my Wagner Wood & Metal Paint Sprayer arrived, when the Lancashire wind finally abated sufficiently to allow me to tackle the application of two coats of waterborne exterior wood paint to 21 metres or so of recently installed rough-sawn fencing, six feet high. I’ve not used a paint sprayer before and my apprehension on a couple of issues proved to be unfounded. Using quite a viscous product, I was anticipating problems with nozzle clogging during the course of application, but there were no such issues - perhaps because once I started, I kept going without a break. My other concern was that I might not have purchased sufficient paint to complete the task - I’d ordered 25 litres. In the end, I used less than 10 litres - so I’ve plenty left to do the other side of the fence (if only I could get to it through all the shrubs!) The first pass took me four hours or so, working non-stop - and I’ll admit I was pretty tired when I’d finished. The second coat, applied the next day, was much simpler and took an hour less. The whole process took only two mornings, which I know from experience is about a fifth the time it would have taken me to apply the product by brush. The Wagner sprayer was simple to use and, with only a little trial and error, I soon got the hang of how to get consistent results. I was surprised at how much area I could cover before needing to refill the reservoir - having said that, when tackling a fence, it is something that needs to be done many times during the course of application and can be a tad messy. I’d armed myself with a large plastic jug to help decant material from the 5 litre packs into the 0.8 litre sprayer reservoir. I found it’s also a good idea to house all materials, including water for easing and a bucket and sponge for cleaning, in a stout cardboard tray. Perhaps partly because I’d patiently waited for such a calm couple of days, I was pleasantly surprised at how little overspray there was - although I did find it worth protecting the grass at the base of the fence, where I was having to angle the sprayer sharply downwards. I have just two small criticisms: Firstly, the power cable could do with being just a little longer; when attached to an extension lead, you can find the connector getting underfoot as you work. Secondly, the paint reservoir, being fairly opaque, makes it nigh on impossible to see the amount of paint remaining in it. In my case, I learned that it need refilling as soon as the gun started to “spit”. Overall (and clean-up aside) I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working with the Wagner Wood & Metal Paint Sprayer and that I’m looking forward to using it again on other tasks.

Very easy to use but provides an easy coat of paint to in my case a wall effortlessly . There is some waste drips but for the effort this machine takes away it’s well worth it plus you can scoop the waste up with your brush & use for cutting in. Absolute game changer for me it the difference from me being able to complete a job or not. I tried to paint with a thick & thin brush before purchasing this tool honestly I couldn’t get the paint into the cracks very easily this machine just does it10/10 I won’t be using anything else when painting the fence instead of a week task it’s gonna be a few hours but you must cover areas you don’t want paint on as there is some splatter

The Wagner W100 says it is suitable for the following :- Suitable for wood and metal paints including; gloss, satin, undercoat, stain, varnish wood preservatives and many more Perfect for spraying fencing, decking, garden furniture, doors, skirting, windows and other wood or metal surfaces When I bought this gun the first job on my list was to spray the top of a small bedside cabinet to match an existing one but to my horror found it only produced a splattering orange peel finish. I diluted the paint and sprayed again. Slightly better but not much. I diluted the paint again until it was like a thin single cream and tried again slightly better but again not much . I tried every adjustment possible but in the end the only solution was to spray the surface flat rather than angled towards the gun and to cover it with so much paint that the splattered blobs flowed together and settled like water. This was the only way to get a flat result but the downside is that three days later the paint is still not dry as the amount of paint I had to build up to get it to settle and flatten was so much so that I don’t know how long it will take to dry . After three days the paint surface has formed a film over it but is still soft inside and touching it make finger prints. It will probably take weeks to harden thoroughly at this rate which is a real problem as the table is one of a pair in a guest’s room of my B&B and the clients are coming in tomorrow. All my other spraying projects which I bought this spraygun for will now have to be abandoned. It may be O.K. for spattering creosote on a fence (I would assume) but it certainly is no good for fine spraying things like furniture, doors, skirting or windows as it says on the tin. It would be helpful if the manufacturer posted a warning that this gun is not suitable for fine surface spraying. I hope this review will be helpful to others.

I painted accent walls with it and it just looks so professional, I’m beyond happy. Wall paint need to be mixed with roughly 100ml water. Clean up is easy and simple. My better half raised her eyebrows when I bought it but now she’s convinced now. I honestly delayed all my painting work as I was afraid to use it. But all my fears were unjustified. Works really very well even in a fully furnished room. No massive spray fog. No splatter. No mess!
