Every kitchen should have one..............
I had previously owned a variety of food processors before I purchased the Kenwood Mini Chopper, but one thing that they all had in common was that I very rarely used them! This was because I have a good set of knifes, I am quite proficient with them, and they were easier to clean afterwards; another reason was that all the processors were quite bulky and I'm a bit of 'fuss pot' when it comes to having clutter-free worktops, so more often than not they were stored at the back of a cupboard and by the time I'd got them out and set them up I could have probably done all the work with a knife! Anyway, you may find yourself wondering why if my trusty old knifes were so wonderful I'd end up buying one these choppers? Well its simple really, I used one at a friends house and just couldn't believe how good it was! I ordered one from Amazon as soon as I got home; that was over three years a go, so here I am giving a review based on extensive use over that period. Ok, lets start with the main selling point of this gadget, its size; it is exactly as advertised, just 190mm in length and 145mm from top to bottom, with an overall weight of approximately 950g. The two things that are quite surprising considering its minimal size are its power and capacity; the motor is 300w, and this coupled with Stainless steel blades, means that it is very good at chopping most reasonable things you throw in it, I use it primarily for onions, garlic, chillies, breadcrumbs and herbs. The bowl has a capacity of 350ml (150g), this is enough for a decent sized onion or a big old hand full of herbs; it is incredibly easy to remove and replace on the chopper, and it is dishwasher safe! The chopper uses a simple One Touch Control for operation; basically its a big grey button on the top that you can either hold down for continuous or tap for pulse. The chopper will not operate unless the safety interlock system is engaged, so to put it simpy unless the bowl is properly in place with the lid attached completely you cannot make the blades turn. This is a really nifty gadget; it is well made (as frequent use over a three year period attests to), effective at its job, surprisingly powerful, aesthetically pleasing, space-saving, well priced and ultimately it does make life in the kitchen easier! Highly recommended.

Brilliant, neat and fun to use
A few years ago I was put off buying this chopper because of the label "a Delia cheat gadget" - not because of anything against the wonderful Delia but just not liking the idea of using a cheat! However, having bought one I would say that one of the things other reviews don't mention is how much FUN this wonderful gadget is to use. Its small but elegant design means it's a very neat and precise little tool. I really enjoy the whole experience of pulling it out of the cupboard to whizz something quickly, then rinsing the bowl and blade under a hot tap, without the chore of washing or dish-washing a full processor. (I've only dish-washed the bowl, blade and lid a few times, but for what it's worth I didn't see any sign of discoloration. Btw, the remaining motor housing is well sealed and easily wiped down.) Since buying the mini-chopper I've used it almost every day, and it shows no sign of wear. Mostly this is when cooking for two, but also easily for four. I use it a lot to make breadcrumbs for panรฉ: preparing Scotch eggs or schnitzels for two, the chopper can take all the bread in one go if you want, but I've found it's actually faster in two short loads - a mixture of short and long pulses. I also use it when preparing baby food from fresh vegetables or fruit for our granddaughter. And having being used to laborious hand chopping when making duxelles for Wellingtons, etc., it is such a pleasure using the mini-chopper to render mushroom duxelles in about 4-5 seconds. Indeed, I now add mushroom and cabbage duxelles to most casseroles and pies for a really intense flavour, alongside diced onion (I still prefer to fine-dice onion by hand), and the chopper copes very well with finely chopping a chorizo sausage, mincing turkey and chicken meats, and grating up raw carrots, cabbage, apple and sprouts for coleslaw. (My wife now says her favourite way to eat sprouts is to have them finely chopped and sautรฉed for five minutes in a little butter with finely chopped chorizo.) Very, very highly recommended.

Kenwood chopper
I have mixed feelings about this product. I bought one last year, several months before buying this unit, however the first one failed to arrive in time for Christmas, so I ended up keeping it myself and buying this one to give as a gift for my son and daughter in law much later in the year. From day one I have struggled to remove the bowl from the base unit on the one I have. The product is also stated to be two different speeds, however, no matter how gentle I am with the button the only two speeds I've noticed are 'on' and 'off' !!! I cannot differentiate between the speed it chops at when the button is depressed half way and when pressed down fully. No matter how gentle I am, it disintegrates mushrooms to mush and anything other than rock hard cheese just ends up in a glob that rolls round the bowl. Having said that, when it comes to vegetables, it is brilliant and reduces the time for which they need to be cooked when making soups or stews where it doesn't matter if neat slices of veg is important. With this in mind and because I had a new grandson whose food would need to be chopped up small, I went ahead and bought the second unit as a gift. Big attraction was that the item only has a small footprint so my son would be able to find space for it in his crammed kitchen. However, although they have not said anything about the unit, I noticed that after only a few weeks of use, one of the lugs on the bowl had been broken off, clearly because of the difficulty in removing the bowl from the base unit. A few weeks ago, when the unit was less than 3 months old, I noticed that the second holding lug had also been broken off the bowl. So Kenwood need to address the difficulty removing the bowl from the base unit. Thankfully the integrity of the bowl wasn't damaged and the chopper still works. My one continues to prove fiddly to remove the bowl, but I obviously have more patience than my son and d-in-l, so I jiggle the bowl until I get it off the base unit. I do consider it a design fault though. Small tip. The bowl is acrylic so will stain when chopping carrots. Put a few drops of olive oil or similar onto a piece of kitchen towel and rub round the bowl to remove any staining. Works a treat.

Brilliant, works great, chops fantastic. Terrific small size. Tough getting lid off, not worried it's new, will slacken off.

Reliable kitchen essentialโour second one in several years!
Performance & Value: This is our second time purchasing the Kenwood CH180B, which should tell you everything you need to know about its value. Compared to other budget choppers weโve tried, the price-to-quality ratio here is hard to beat. Our previous unit lasted for quite a long time with regular use, eventually leading us to stick with what we know works rather than gambling on a different brand. Daily Use: The 300W motor might seem small, but with the two-speed settings, it handles daily tasks effortlessly. We use it mostly for: - Onions & Garlic: Saves so much time and avoids the "onion tears." - Herbs: It chops them cleanly without turning them into a mushy paste. - Baby Food/Purรฉes: The 0.35L size is perfect for small, fresh batches. Stability & Design: The rubber feet are a small but vital feature. Even on a smooth granite countertop, the unit stays planted and doesn't "walk" across the surface when you're using the higher speed. It feels sturdy and safe during operation. Cleaning: Cleaning is incredibly easy. The bowl and blades come apart quickly, and because they are dishwasher safe, it doesn't become a chore to use it for even a 10-second chopping task. There are no "hidden" nooks where food gets stuck, which is a common flaw in cheaper models. Pros: - Longevity: Proven to last through years of frequent use. - Compact: Doesn't take up much cupboard or counter space. - Dual Speed: Nice to have control over how fine the chop is. Cons: - Capacity: 0.35L is strictly for small jobs. If you're prepping for a large family meal, you'll need to do it in batches. Final Verdict: If you want a simple, durable, and affordable mini-chopper that "just works," this is it. Weโve seen no reason to switch to a more expensive competitor.

A superb little food chopper that is dishwasher safe
I bought this to replace a near identical chopper that I have for umpteen years before I broke the locating lugs on the bowl. This one is even better with 2 speeds and an opening to pour in oils etc while blending. Brilliant thought,

Most useful kitchen gadget ever
I bought this, like many others I'm sure, on Delia's recommendation in her Cheat recipe book. It has been in almost daily use in my kitchen since the moment it arrived, about six months ago, so I thought I would add a review based on my experience. It is small - very small, so doesn't take up nearly as much space on the kitchen counter as having a food processor sitting there. It is very easy to take apart, clean and put back together again - these things are really essential for a kitchen machine being used as often as this one will be! Most importantly however, it really does what it says on the box really well. It chops things. Quickly, evenly, finely (if you press the button down for a longer period of time) coarsely (if you just press the button down for a few seconds for a quick whizz!). Most often I use it for 'finely chopped onions' - the basis for many a fine recipe, but I've also used it for chopping ginger, garlic, beef (both raw and cooked), making hummous (a la Delia!) and lots more besides. After six months use, the perspex is showing a few scratches, but apart from that this product has worn well, and the blade seems as sharp as ever. It is really easy to operate - just a big grey button, and it works really really well. Buy one. Even if you can't stand Delia, she is right about this little beauty. If mine broke, I would buy a new one tomorrow!
