great for travel anywhere
about the 5 stars for comfort and thickness: considering you’re buying a mat for travel that is 2mm thick, the comfort is what you’d expect. comfort in this category is about stickiness and LACK of thickness for travel and being the size and thickness of a laptop inside a protective case. anyway, this is not a mat for hot yoga of any kind as it would need a towel to not be slippery with a lot of sweat. that said, vinyasa flow outside a heated room is totally doable. and just add a towel if you like hot yoga on the go. i bought this for personal practice at work and traveling and doing yoga. i washed it with a mix of 50/50 white vinegar and water with a soft bristle brush and it has been great since. it is plenty sticky for poses like that. again, no major sweat or yoga outside in the rain. using for a relatively intense workout at a pace that keeps you from becoming dripping with sweat it works awesome! i use between clients or at lunch at work. i will wear a tank top and looser yoga pants and cover it all w a suit jacket and no one can tell i am ready for yoga underneath. then, at lunch or between clients, i can drop the mat in my office and get a solid workout just removing my jacket or even the shirt i might wear, too. i cool down then add my office clothing back on the top half of my body. for me, having a mat that allows that without a big tube sticking out of my bag all bulky is fantastic. the “sacrifices” i deal with to have this fit into a work bag or suitcase are WELL worth it to me. i can also use it in hot yoga/vinyasa flow just by bringing a towel. i am totally happy with my purchase and think this is a totally usable travel mat that is easily carried. it also folds in on itself so the bottom touching the floor esp in an office or hotel room is not being introduced to the top when you can’t clean it before putting it away. nice! the bottom folds to itself! again, less concern with dirt or whatever else also being exposed in your bag. for the low price point and convenience i would easily purchase again. if you are used to a high end mat and get super drippy sweaty then maybe this isn’t for you unless you bring a towel. however, being for travel and convenience it is fantastic in my opinion. gets lots of use!

Perfect for travel
This is a great product. Is it an excellent, plush yoga mat? No. Is it the finest quality yoga mat money can buy? Of course not. But in terms of pure utility, it gets a 10/10 from me. It’s like 3 pounds and fits in any suitcase or a large backpack/tote bag, so it’s incredibly easy to travel with. For short trips where your main concern is being able to get some movement and stretching in, in pretty much any environment, it’s perfect. I’m not sure about wear & tear yet because I’ve only brought it on one trip, but so far, based on how my back/neck is feeling after a 6 hour flight (WAY better, because I was able to pop this thing on the hotel floor and do a nighttime/morning yoga routine), I would buy this again in an instant.

So portable
My favorite thing about this yoga mat, and the reason I bought it, is that it's so portable. I love how it's foldable, thin and lightweight, because I've bought other extra thick yoga mats in the past but I travel a lot and they are too big and heavy to bring with me. So this is a great one to take with you on the road (or plane). However, if you want just an everyday yoga mat for home use, I wouldn't recommend this one. It's thin so it doesn't offer much cushion or support for knees/wrists, and it is a little slippery for me as well if I start to sweat. Overall it's suited my purposes great because I took it to the Peace Corps with me in Morocco and used it to teach women's exercise classes three times a week. So I would recommend it if you want something that's small and light for traveling, but not if this will be your go-to mat for home use.

Met my expectations and needs but they might be different than yours.
I think it's a really nice mat, but I have nothing to compare it to, being my first yoga mat, and my needs and expectations may be different than yours. Most importantly, I was looking for something that would fold rather than roll so the floor side would never touch the side I exercise on. I'm putting it on a carpet and we have pets, so this was critical. I was also looking for something that would help my feet and hands not slip out from under me, which was happening on the carpet. Given those requirements, this is exactly what I was looking for - it folds nicely along pre-scored lines, I don't slip on it, and it doesn't slip on the carpet (under yoga-type use). To address other comments about it being thin and smelly - It is thin, maybe too thin if it was on a hard floor, but it's meant to be portable and a thick mat would be harder to fold, so that should not be a surprise. It was not totally odorless, but there was no obnoxious smell right out of the package. There was a slight chemical odor that is noticeable when your face is on or very close to the mat, but that has diminished with time. I have not tried to wash it yet to see if that makes any difference, but it was not terrible. If you are especially sensitive to odors or are concerned about it I'd recommend washing before use to see if that helps. Otherwise, I'm not sure you'll be able to get away from a smell entirely with any synthetic mat.

Great travel mat
Nice travel mat, good grip that looks like it will last with proper care. No chemical smell, though I always clean mats before use anyway. Thin yet durable. It has creases so it folds up the same way each time. Definitely designed well for it's purpose, and a fair price. If you're looking for a quality travel mat, this would be it. Things to consider: If you are looking for an everyday mat, note that this was designed to travel well and is not thick enough to pad the knees or joints. Those with sensitivity should use a bath towel (something most hotels/stays provide) to pad the knees during poses like table or low lunge. If you do hot yoga, the grip might not be enough; hot yoga requires special materials to accommodate excessive moisture/sweat. Proper cleaning/care is a must to maintain any mat, and neglected mats degrade faster. That said, this mat does it's job. Good travel companion to keep up your practice even when away from home.

Great Travel Mat & non slip!- but not the smallest
I have a lot of feelings about this mat. The price point is great and overall I do like this mat but it's not perfect and there are definitely folks out there who would be disappointed with it. In short: if you want a thicker travel mat and don't mind about the extra space it takes up then this is the mat for you. If you find the traditional/thinner mats difficult to use in studios and don't like layering - then this is also the mat for you. It can be used alone on hardwood unless you have particularly fragile knees. However - if you really just want an ultra compact and lightweight mat, this is not the mat for you. Further details below for those interested: I am a fan of this map. I'm a sweaty yogi and I tend to slip. I am also not one of those magical people who can kneel on hardwood floors and not feel pain. For all of these reasons, I say this a fantastic travel mat. I wouldn't want this to be my sole mat, but it's thick enough that it's almost overkill on a carpeted hotel room floor but I'm happy I have it if I get to a studio while on the road. The texture is pebbled and I don't slip much on it which is impressive. If I don't slip - then Id be willing to bet you won't either! I purchased this when new to yoga knowing that if I wasn't comfortable I wasn't going to continue my practice on the road. However - it's been about 6 months and I'm going to buy a new travel mat for those trips that I know I definitely will not be getting to a studio during. Now for why I took off two starts and will probably be purchasing a different travel mat: 1. As I mentioned above - this mat is on the thicker side. While it folds up very easily and into a great easy to pack rectangle, it still takes up quite a bit of room. I use a standard international carry on size hard shell roller bag. This mat takes up about 1/4 of that bag. The thickness of this mat is great if I get to a studio, but completely unnecessary on carpeted hotel floors. The space this mat takes up is the equivalent of 2 pairs of heels or 5 days worth of clothing in a compression bag. Not worth it when I know I'm not making it to a studio. 2. The other issue I have with this mat - and I assume I would with any 'folded' mat - are the creases. This mat folds nicely because the creases makes it easy to follow. However- that means it doesn't lie flat. So if you're like me and not a stellar yogi who sometimes catches their foot on the mat when changing positions- then you run the very likely risk of catching a lifted/not flat part of the mat and tripping yourself up. I wouldn't call it dangerous, but annoying for sure.

Good travel mat
Love this mat. Packed stacked or flat. Was easy to use. Provided thin pad with Gaiam traditional sticky workout mat. Great for travel or using outside on grass or sand. Narrow width made it easy to use in hotels.

Perfect for my needs!
I travel a lot for work and struggled to find comfortable ways to keep up with my practise. I would throw a number of hotel room towels in the ground but they just didn’t ever seem to work well enough to really do what I wanted to do. I had this mat in and out of my cart for over a month. A friend who also travels for work and he brought it to Saturday morning yoga during one of his rotations and seeing it in person got me excited and I pulled the trigger. It’s thin, compact, and allows me the comfort of being able to continue even whilst on the road. It folds so that the bottom of the mat folds on itself. I love it and like other reviewers said, probably wouldn’t use it for hot yoga unless I added the use of a towel. If you’re looking for something thicker and more comfortable this isn’t it. If you’re looking for compact and easy to take on the road and not have to be on a hotel room floor, then don’t hesitate longer than necessary! I travel with a 30L pack that includes this mat, climbing harness and chalk bag, and a pair of climbing shoes, as well as my clothes and toiletries for 3-5 days.

Perfetto

Very well made dense mat
I really wanted a folding yoga mat because I hate the inconvenience of rolling up and carrying the traditional mats, walking through doorways and bumping into everything. I noticed my yoga instructor using this mat and this is how I found out about it. This particular Matt made by Gaiam is excellent quality. And that material is nice and dense and won’t crumble apart on you. Walmart sells a folding day yoga mat as well, I did get a chance to have a look at it ( Walmart mat) and the material is very soft, sliding you can tell it will start to crumble apart in no time. You won’t have that problem with a Gaiam mat. The only one negative thing about this mat is that it is thin, but that is what makes it so portable. I don’t find it uncomfortable at all and I would say I go to yoga classes twice a week.

Lindo
