What makes magic work? What can it do and what can't it do? This straightforward, easy-to-follow guide answers the most common questions about magical power. By learning the fundamentals of raising and sending power, you'll gain the skills you need to create and perform spells and rituals that work. Written for beginners or adepts from any spiritual background, this approachable book shows how to: Personalize power to suit your purpose Choose a magical goal Use magical correspondences Store power in your tools Transcend time and space Perform group magic Construct a spell (with step-by-step samples) Develop mind skills (meditation, grounding, and visualization) Review: Great - This was recommended on a youtube because I was looking for material on retroactive enchantment and sympathy/poppet magic. I'm a magician, not a Wiccan, so I was skeptical, but this book is really for all paths. I do wish she'd talked more about transcending space and time, but she said enough to really open my mind to a new perspective on how I work within a liminal space (witches would use a circle; I use The Crossroads ala Aidan Wachter style) It's helped me understand how me and my poppet/sympathetic object are working outside of space and time. Review: Interesting (Review may contain a few spoilers!) - Very good book. It's always nice for one to get back to basic theories and techniques because something new is always there and maybe because one missed some important steps. This book will do fine for that. For ex. (Among the other insights) author makes us aware of differences between goal and target and that we need to "raise and send power" twice! With help from this book, one will be able to construct simple spells very correctly. It will be clear how to do it. From here you go to the other traditions and advanced texts with much greater confidence. However, I will add something briefly about using the imagination and many authors skip that part: yes, you use imagination to visualize your goal and target BUT you also use visualization when you "Raise and send Power"!!!

Pretty good info
I would love to give a four and a half star, but I wasn't able to. So, I went ahead with the five. I learned a lot and use a lot of what is in here. The half is really only for the length. I would love to have had it longer, but I think that the basics here really mean BASICS. Other than that, super read!

Not Just For Beginners
This book is very well written. There's a lot of valuable info that I think would benefit someone no matter how long they've practiced. Deborah Lipp is super clear with her explanations, and has a beautiful writing style. There's truth in every page.

Amazing book, should be in any newbie witch library and more experienced alike
This book is exactly what I have been looking for since the beginning of my journey on the path. It really takes you through the basics of casting a spell, teaching you how to clearly states your goal, set your intentions, raise energy, direct energy. She also explains how magic works (sympathetic magic, how magic transcend time and space). Along with Mya Om "Energy essentials for witches and spellcasters" "un-spell" book you will be well equipped to create powerful and successful spells.

Its good
This is actually a very good book written from the perspective of raising and sending magical energy in rituals. It takes away a lot of the dogma usually associated with magic ritual. However there are still a few dogmatic statements the author made that I completely disagree with and some things that could have been left out, however on the whole I found this to be an interesting book written in a straight forward down to earth style with no waffle. It would be of interest to beginners or experienced practitioners.

Very detailed and informative.
This book isnโt a regurgitation of what is already out there. Deborah Lipp perfectly describes how magic works along with how to gain it and use it!

good for beginners
I think this book is alright for beginners, to get a general grasp of magic and to understand the main components of a spell and how to make one. However, I don't like the way it is written, it's like is not flowing properly.
