Crochet Magical Creatures: 20 Easy Amigurumi Patterns

rochet Magical Creatures has quickly become one of my favorite amigurumi books. I just finished making the purple dragon, and it turned out absolutely adorable. So many people have asked me to make one for them because of how cute it came out. The pattern was very easy to follow, and the instructions were clear enough that I never felt lost. I was honestly a little scared about making the wings, but everything went smoothly. The steps were written in a way that made the tricky parts feel simple, and the pieces came together beautifully. It gave me a lot of confidence, and now I’m excited to try some of the other creatures in the book. If you love amigurumi or want patterns that are both fun and beginner‑friendly, this book is a great choice. It makes creating magical little creatures feel easy and enjoyable.

I have been a crocheter since a youth. I started learning to make wearables. That was my niche and what I loved to do. I realize that sometimes its quicker to sell a plushie vs a sweater or blanket. I purchased a doll pattern book thinking that will help me learn doll making. That book was not beginner friendly. So I gave up amigurumi. I noticed my sales were lacking and if I could just learn Amigurumi I could keep myself competitive in the market. This book is PERFECT for what I needed! Amigurumi was not fun for me. Now it is. Im almost finished with the 1st pattern and Im addicted! I love how quickly these patterns work up. There is a lot of counting but the patterns are easy to read and understand. I haven't completed the 1st pattern but Im already feeling 1000 times more confident in my skills. I’m so excited to make ALL of these cute lil patterns. If you are intimidated by amigurumi this book will help. February 2026 Updated Review: I am still loving this book and the patterns. I am still not that great at amigurumi but this book alone has helped me understand reading patterns, counting stitches and sewing. I learned the lark’s knot and Im still excited to make more magical creatures. I stand by my word; if you want to better your amigurumi skills get this book!

This is a great book! I’ve made several of the patterns already, I love it. There’s some really cute creatures to create.

Have not crocheted any of these yet (so many hobbies, so little time), but i scanned the patterns and found them well-written and usable even for an advanced beginner like me. Cute and kids will love them.

such a fun crochet book! The patterns are creative and the magical creature designs are really cute. The instructions are easy to follow, even if you’re not an expert at amigurumi, and each project is broken down in a way that makes it simple to work through step by step. The I also love the variety of creatures included there’s a nice mix so you don’t feel like you’re making the same thing over and over. The photos are clear and helpful, which makes it easier to see what the finished projects should look like.

Got this for the wife whom recently took up the hobby. She has a weekly lunch time crochet club that she attends and this was a lil hit, she has had many requests for a lend once she has gone through it and plans to run a lil builder session with one of the lessons. It seemed cheap enough and she is very happy, I’m not a expert but I made it into the good books with this and a couple other crochet purchases.

Made the very cute Caticorn, love these patterns! Gave it to a little neighbor as a thank you gift. Very well written and detailed. It’s easy to take the patterns and add some of your own ideas to them for customization. Hoping for another book 🤞

Can't wait to make these

I’ve now done two patterns in this book and am very impressed by the quality and the time that went into these patterns. These two projects are, the Cyclops (see attached photo) and Konrad the Kraken (I forgot to take a photo before giving it away). They are very well written, with clear & consistent instructions that break it down into manageable chunks. These patterns may not be for an absolute beginner, but an upper beginner would be able to make their way through it. One recommendation that I do have to make it even better is to include photos of the creatures’ progress at key steps in the project. This would help beginners get through a couple of the more challenging parts. With the progress photos, I think this book would be good for a solid beginner crocheter. They are absolutely adorable and with the well written patterns and I’m going to definitely make more of them soon!

I love these little amigurumis. Well explained and thoughtfully named which I think is adorable. Don't think it matters about keeping the same yarn weight and hook to the pattern specifications though. I did fine with smaller yarn and hook. Different colours work too. So many wonderful options. I'm a happy camper anywho.

For the beginners, there is a whole section that covers the stitches you need to know to make these magical creatures! The patterns are all very well written and thoroughly explain each step from start to finish.
