SCRABBLE™ Junior Spelling Activity Book Age 8-9

Bought for a present looks good.Would recommend.

I got this book for my grandchildren, who find it interesting and fun to try to solve the puzzles with their parents. To get the best out of these books I suggest that the exercises are played as a game a page or two at a time. The book is attractively illustrated to help maintain a child’s interest. Do bear in mind that as a result of lessons missed at school over lockdown, the age ranges of these books may over-estimate a child’s level of proficiency by some margin. In fact, as a teacher myself, I think that a number of GCSE-level students would struggle to complete the exercises without help. Learning correct English spelling needs frequent repetition and reinforcement through general reading. I recommend using this book with a pad of lined paper to write the answers on. In this way the questions can be used and re-used many times. Alternatively, use a soft pencil so that the answers can be rubbed out. Inside the back cover you can find the answers to all the puzzles. In addition to reading, letter dice or tiles and Scrabble are good ways to develop vocabulary and spelling skills. This book covers a range of tricky words but there are far more out there to work on.

We got this for our 9 year old as a little homework over the summer holidays as his english needs a bit of work and fair play within 2 hours he had completed the whole book it is full of different english challenges like match the words to crosswords nouns and at the same time keeping it fun aswell so great fun learning and in deffinate need of more like this great workbook at a small pri e and i highly recommend

The book is 32 pages long which includes one page of answers and a front page with the book details, so 30 pages of activities in total. It feels quite a thin volume but 30 pages is a standard activity book length and the current price of 2.00 seems reasonable. Though perhaps not one for children that don't like spelling or word games. There are a wide variety of activities in the book all of which involve words and/or spelling, including :- word jumbles, word fills, clue solvers, word matching, crossword clues, making adverbs, word searches and more. Note that the games on page 31 either require scrabble tiles to go onto the grid or you'll need to make some letters to use. I think the age range 8-9 is right, my daughter is 9 and some of the activities she sailed through others she found frustrating ( usually when she hadn't read the instructions correctly or had skipped over one of the clues). Overall - For children who are good at spelling / language it might not take that long to get through the book. Children who need practice at spelling could need help with some of the activities but may find the book more rewarding when they work out the puzzles.

This is a fun 5 Star spelling activity book that me and my kids loved using from the first page to the last one. My daughter has just turned 9 and my son turned 7 so a good age to buy this book. I was there to support them and they indeed needed help but they really enjoyed spending time on this book and I loved seeing them using their clever brain. The book is made of a quality paper too. Recommended activity book!
