Yes a wheat berry is a whole grain..

what is the shelf life for the 5 lb bag?

I don't consider shelf life when I obtain a whole grain product, like brown rice, whole grain wheat, barley, etc. If stored and kept dry, it should last almost indefinitely. As long as it is stored whole and not processed in any way, it will not go "bad."

Hi There! The Einkorn wheat berries available now will have been harvested middle to end of 2019 depending on where they were grown in the USA. They are stored in paper sacks in a cool, dry, pest free environment until being sold. Blessings! Michele @ Be Still Farms The Carolinas

Perfect!

I typically buy my einkorn in bulk, but I was nearly out so I got this to hold me over until my next big order. While this is more expensive than my usual, it is of very high quality. The grain is exceptionally clean and ground up into beautiful fine flour. I use this to make cookies primarily and they turned out scrumptious. I love making goodies for my kids with ancient grains that are healthier. Einkorn is higher in protein and lower in gluten, a win nutritionally speaking not to mention all the benefits of it being freshly milled. Certified organic, great quality, would recommend!

Great taste, mill up beautifully

This brand of Einkorn tastes great. I must say that I initially tried it due to the name and have not been disappointed with their quality. It mills up very easily on my KithenAid mixer attachment, so light and fluffy. Also, just a cup of whole kernels make a cup and a half when milled. The option to have fresh milled grains is a huge plus, I love the health benefits they bring. Sourdough is a healthier option and these berries take it to the next level.

Please know how to read your scale!

I almost chose a different product due to the reviews claiming these bags were weighing wrong. When infact the reviewers were wrong. These bags are supposed to be 4.8 lbs. Meaning .8 of a pound is 12.8oz. These bags are weighing 4lbs 14 oz which exceeds their weight. Im so excited to try this brand. Its a plus that they are local to me in NC!
