Easy to use, thoroughly covers gray, doesn't bleed through, color stays, highlights naturally
I wanted to wait until I used this product a few times before reviewing it, and after using it for one full year to cover my grays I am BEYOND THRILLED with it! I just ordered another one! That's how happy I have been with the coverage, ease of use, the color, and how the color looks after repeated washing, blow drying and use of hot rollers. Just beautiful! 1st, purchased DARK BROWN because I read it covered the grays the best. What a GORGEOUS color! It highlights itself beautifully as my hair becomes exposed to the sun due to work, taking long walks, going on our nature trails or gardening. Beautiful! Have had a number of compliments! 2nd, despite all my hair and grays, it only takes a little bit to have full lasting coverage. It is rich and NOT runny! Excellent to work with. 3rd, I have never, ever, DIY hair colored before, and was petrified! After a botched job by a new beautician (my stylist moved), and spending $$ to get that horrible job done to boot, decided to try my hand at DIY 4th, here is how I apply it after watching a number of different videos. Hope it's useful for you too: I shake the bottle very well before applying. Use stained towels to cover sink and all around me, just in case a drop makes it's way where it shouldn't (again, it is NOT runny). Obviously use plastic gloves and cover top with small stained towels I tuck into neckline to keep in place 1st apply to my grays around my face, and at top of head where it naturally parts towards the back (my grays are more pronounced around front of my face vs anywhere else), and leave it on for about 1 to 2 minutes maximum. Then I apply in sections all around my head. Rub it thoroughly in, obviously not too crazily to avoid knotting my hair. Almost more like massaging it in vs hard rubs. I then take a wide toothed comb, and comb it through CAREFULLY to avoid spillage onto floor, and take the product on the comb to rub back in wherever I feel it is necessary. Rub it all in again (I do not add more product at this point, I massage thoroughly all around what is already there), comb through again, gently add excess off comb again where needed (pat it in this time), and set timer to lowest number of minutes, given that it took me a bit to do this (I work VERY slowly, maybe you won't I am still petrified, so am cautiously working this in). I then rinse THOROUGHLY as noted, towel dry, and style as usual Leaves hair super soft yet NOT flat. Love this product! Hope the above was useful to you.

Black hair dye shampoo works really well and highly recommended
The hair dye works well and covers all the gray hair for at least two to three weeks. It lasts longer and much easier to apply comparing to the traditional hair colors sold in the store. It saves me a lot of time each time when I use it. The black color dye works better for my hair since my hair is black color. However, when I tried the dark brown color dye, it appears more orange than brown. I highly recommend it.

Works well, but Temporary
I was skeptical about this product, but wanted an easier alternative to dying my roots with boxed dye monthly. It was definitely easier! Like applying shampoo to your hair, lathering it in, and leaving it on for about half an hour (I may have left it a little longer just to be extra safe). I will say, that it does stain everything just like regular dye, but the stains wash out of skin and clothes more easily than permanent dye (which made me think it wouldn’t stay in my hair very long either). The dye/lather washed out easily and I only applied some conditioner afterward. My hair looked super fresh and well dyed! Had great volume and bounce! I was pretty sold on how great this product works and what a great hair day I was having after! After my first shampoo, the color still held well, but i went to the pool and noticed a couple of whites popping through again after that (maybe the chlorine didn’t help). After the second shampoo, a few more whites again. It’s been about 8 days now and I see like… 5 white roots that washed out already (see photo) but it’s not horrible enough for me to redye again yet. Will I use this product again? YES! It’s so easy and convenient, I’ll finish out the bottle and maybe do a box-dye in between every few months or so. Pros: -Super easy and faster to do -Not as harsh as regular dye -Many many many applications in one bottle (will last you a while!!) -washes out easily and leaves you with a beautiful hair-day! Cons: -Smells fishy at first, but like regular dye once applied -Starts to wash out after 2 shampoos -dries out your hair a bit (apply conditioner after) Overall, I recommend getting a bottle as a break to regular dye for your hair once in a while

It really works!
I have very dark brown hair and am 50% grey in my roots and crown. I color my hair at home using Revlon Colorstay in dark brown. I need to touch up my roots every two weeks and honestly, I’m so lazy that I don’t do it unless I have to get dressed up and go somewhere. I find the entire hair dying process annoying and messy and time consuming. I hate it. I can’t afford to pay $50+ at a salon every month to get my hair colored. I work from home and nobody really sees me during the week, and at my age, I’m starting to care less and less about having grey hair…however, I’m not quite ready to go fully grey yet. I initially saw an ad for another brand of hair color shampoo, but it didn’t get great reviews. I read all the positive reviews for this shampoo and decided to give it a try. I shampooed with it yesterday and to my surprise, it actually worked. I had an hour total to work with to color, rinse, shower, get dressed, dry my hair and go out the door to meet a friend for breakfast. Application was super quick and easy. No multiple bottles and vials, no mixing, no painting on dye with a brush. You just pump the shampoo out of the bottle, apply it to your hair, and then rinse it out in the shower 15 minutes later. The gel shampoo is clear and it changes color as you apply it. The kit comes with two pairs of gloves and either two plastic capes or two pairs of ear covers (I got the capes). I strongly recommend wearing gloves because this shampoo does stain (not as badly as hair dye, but it does). I spilled a little on my bathroom counter and wiped it right away with a Lysol wipe and the stain came out. I left the shampoo in my hair for about half an hour because I have stubborn greys. I didn’t apply any conditioner to my hair after rinsing because I was worried that might fade or lessen the color. Because of not using conditioner, my hair did feel dried out, so next time I’ll use conditioner after rinsing. The main thing is, this shampoo covered my greys! You can see this from my before and after photo. The only downside is that using the dark brown color made my greys a dark reddish brown or mahogany, so it almost looks like I used henna on my hair. But the reddish brown is only noticeable in certain light. I think next time I will use the black tinted shampoo. I’m probably going to get my hair cut short, like a stacked pixie, so I will be using even less shampoo and it will go further. Already this is a big bottle that will last you. I used about 3 ounces on my shoulder length hair. I think this shampoo is a good solution for busy people who find coloring their hair at home annoying and time consuming or for people like me who slowly want to transition from dying their hair to just going grey naturally and eventually stop dying their hair. I think I will stop purchasing box dyes and just use this shampoo from now on. I’m satisfied and I recommend it.

Buy it, it works
The dye worked well. I have dark brown hair and was coloring gray roots. I left it on 15 minutes. I’d go 20 next time as my result (on the roots) was slightly reddish-brown (see photos). I’m sure I’m the only one that will notice it, as I have to look closely. My color is warmer and richer after use. The product does not really smell much. The smell was very faint, and not unpleasant. My tips: Must be used on dry hair. Go around your hairline with Vaseline before starting so it’s easier to clean the excess dye off your skin. Go at least 5 minutes longer on your time if coloring grays. Do it in your shower stall because the way it’s applied flicks specks of product everywhere. I had it on my stomach, my leg, my counter, my toilet, my cheeks, wrists, arms and forehead. This does not happen to me with box dye and an applicator brush. If not coloring in your shower stall, place a newspaper down under your bottle, just in case! This is also a handy place to set your gloves while waiting for processing. Clean up drips on surfaces ASAP. Don’t use their gloves. They are baggy, noisy, “lunch lady gloves”. One reason why the process was so messy is because the gloves were sliding so much as I was working the product into a lather. (You DO need gloves though. Try disposable medical gloves.) Have a good quality conditioner ready. This product left my hair feeling healthy, but I did end up with tangles after rinsing. Consider a packet of deep conditioner (it just feels so nice and soft afterward!) Overall, love it! Way easier than painting dye on section by section, hair stayed healthy, takes less time, good color result! (Sidenote: felt a slight tingle at 13 min. Much less than how the box dye feels though. Wasn’t a big deal to me.)

IT WORKS BUT, USE IT CAREFULLY...!!
I’m giving this product 3 stars. The shampoo works well—I used it on my beard, and it covered all the grays (I have quite a lot) while still looking natural. I left it on for about 10 minutes, but even after rinsing, it seemed to keep working, and my beard continued getting darker. However, there are some important precautions to take to avoid the hassle I experienced. Before using it, I tested it on my hand to see if it would stain my skin. After about 8 minutes, I ended up with a large dark stain. The instructions say to shake the bottle before use, but I strongly recommend keeping the cap tightly on while doing so, as it can easily spill and create a mess. I ended up with stains on my shower curtain, floor, sink, and even the toilet vent—there were black stains everywhere. To get those stains out I had to use Clorox to remove them but, some of them were kind of hard to get clear, on the stain on my hand, Clorox didn't work. Make sure to always use gloves and keep everything clean during application. Do not let the shampoo spill on counters, sinks, or other surfaces—it will stain them.
