Algaecal and Strintium Boost were recommended to me by my OBGYN. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis stage 3. I did not want to use the prescription bone density builders because of the know side effects. So, at my OBGY's recommendation, I religiously took Algaecal and Strontium Boost for just about a year. I had another bone density scan done at 1 year. I have moved from osteoporosis stage 3 to osteopenia. My OBGYN says that that kind of progress in rebuidling bone density is virtually unheard of without significant medical intervention. I am so grateful. No side effects and significant results--likely far better than the prescription remedies.

While the AlgaeCal calcium supplement did help my bone density tremendously after a fall resulted in a hip bone fracture, I am very disappointed that this product is advertised as plant based. The vitamin d3 is sourced from Cholecalciferol, a sheep wool lanolin derivative. The practice of extracting Cholecalciferol in large scale sheep shearing can be extremely rough and cruel to the sheep. I feel that saying this is a plant based product is deceptive advertising. I recently purchased the AlgaeCal Plus Bone Builder Pack based on this being plant based but on further research I discovered it really isn’t. I also ordered this because I took the AlgaeCal calcium supplement over the several months following hip surgery. The last hip x-rays proved that my bone density had become very good. I want to be sure my bones are all as strong as they can be and will finish the Bone Builder Pack I have purchased, but as someone who loves and has compassion for animals I am aghast at what I have read about lanolin processing. I hope AlgaeCal changes their sourcing of d3 and makes this product truly plant based in the future. There are plant based alternatives for vitamin d available.
