Worked Great on a Brand New 2022 MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro Chip
Worked Great on a brand new 2022 MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro Chip. It's amazing how cheap HDDs are now. I will continue buying them until the price of external SDDs goes down. You can literally get twice as much storage capacity with HDDs for half the price of a SSD. As always, with external drives used to do backups on Mac computers, you must reformat the disk before doing the backup and this WD is no different. Reformatting is a very easy task as always, and it takes no more than a few minutes to get the external drive ready for your Mac. However, I ran into some issues with Time Machine on the newest version of Monterey (the one that came installed in the laptop). It seems like it no matter what format you choose when reformatting the external drive, Time Machine automatically reformats the drive on its own to the new Apple File System (APFS) when you do your first backup. Not only that, but once Time Machine reformats the drive to APFS and completes the backup, then it blocks the HDD and you cannot use it to save anything else in it, drop files, etc. It basically locks the drive for backups only. Oh, and with the APFS format you cannot use the drive to backup older Apple computers. I NEVER had this happened in any of my Apple computers before. I tried a few other HDDs from other brands to ensure this was not an issue of the WD brand. They all did the same, so I knew it was an Apple software glitch issue. It took several calls to Apple to figure out that yes, Time Machine does this. The only way around this issue is to create a "new volume" in the external HDD. Then you can use the separate volume to save other things, drop files, etc. You could create as many volumes as you can, and the APFS makes it very easy. When you plug the HDD, the volume for the backup pops on your desktop (Time Machine color), along with any other volumes you created (yellow color). Hope this saves somebody out there a lot of frustration and aggravation trying to figure out what the issue with Time Machine and external drives using the newest Monterey version. I also hope Apple fixes this problem. It makes no sense that you select a specific reformat option but then Time Machine ignores it and reformats to APFS against your wish and block the drive in the process. The WD external drive works great. It is a really great value for 2TBs of storage, and it is a very small and lightweight drive. All the issues mentioned are specific to the Apple operating system that would happen with any HDD of any brand.

Reliable 5TB portable drive that just works – perfect for backups and extra storage
I’ve used a bunch of these WD Elements drives over the years, and this one is exactly what you’d expect – simple, no-frills, and it does the job really well. Plugged it into my Windows laptop and it showed up right away, no software install needed. Same thing on my Mac – plug and play, formatted it quick and good to go. USB 3.0 speeds are solid for a spinning drive – copying big video files or game backups takes time but it’s consistent and way faster than USB 2.0 junk. The 5TB gives you a ton of space. I use it mainly for Time Machine backups, storing old photos/videos, and keeping Steam libraries I don’t play often. Fits everything I need without worrying about space for a long time. The drive itself is pretty quiet – you hear a faint hum when it’s working

Product works fantastically, but a warning to other users.
I want to clarify, this HD does exactly what it's meant to, exceptionally. It is plug n play, it requires no formatting or complicated software, its transfer rates are great & it has a rugged protective design that means it'll last a long time. BUT I want to let folks know, specifically, if they're utilizing USB wireless devices such as a keyboard, mouse, etc; You must plug this in as far away from the recievers for those devices as possible. In fact, if you have a laptop, I recommend using a far longer cord & putting the HD as far away as the Hard Drive allows. To be clear, I'm not sure this is a real manufacturing or producer error, this just seems like signal interference inherent to the power output of the hard drive. It WILL cause your mouse, keyboard, etc to lag. It can cause wireless connections to drop. If you have a little plug in USB reciever for any device you use on your computer, move it to the opposite side from the HD. In fact, try to keep the HD out of the line of signal entirely AND as far away from it as possible. If you plug a WD Elements Portable External Hard Drive & experience: - Lag of keyboard input - Lag of wireless mouse input - Intermittent or disruptive wireless disconnections - Signal or Detection dropout of a microphone or webcam using a wireless reciever It is because of the WD Elements Portable Hard Drive. It is not an error, it's not malfunctioning, it is just disrupting the signal. Get a long USB transfer cord, or turn your laptop, or MOVE your wireless recievers so the HD is not between them & the device. I swear, it's working fine, it's super easy to work around, you do not need to refund/return, etc. The product is great, I'm just writing this to thank the seller & also to make sure anyone googling this has a clear, reliable, understandable result in search as to what to do. Your computer isn't dying, nothing's wrong, it's just way too much in the airways.

Good drive! You'll buy it.
First order of business: I ordered this drive (WD Elements 5tb) and received it in about 18 hours. I checked the shipping label, and it is their proprietary delivery service. USPS, take note. The box it came in was pretty regular, no fancy presentation. Which is fine. I don't like paying for felt lining. It has one port on the back, and comes with a USB cable. I plugged it into my laptop and checked it out. Drive capacity actually reads 4.54 Tb. Which isn't unusual for larger volumes. It came formatted as NTFS. Which is great, because FAT32 has a file size limit of 4gb. Next test: I plugged it into a 3.0 Anker USB Data Hub. The drive revved up, then started clicking. I recognized those clicks as motor failures from a power drop, so the USB hub is not going to do it. This beast of a portable drive needs a main-line. It can be used in USB 3.0 or 2.0 But I highly encourage 3 for faster speeds. Especially with a volume this size (You are buying it for a reason, right?) Next test: A phone mount. Similar to a Samsung Dex setup, the device I used is a Baseus USB C mount. It connects my Note10+ phone to HDMI, and...for this test...a USB 3.0 port. I wasn't sure if it would work, because the hub charges the phone, and would have to "lend" some power to the 3.0 port to power the drive. It worked. I plugged it in, and my exFAT/NTFS app fired right up. It recognized the drive, mounted it, and was ready to go. For the technical folks out there, this was by powering the phone dock with a samsung travel adapter that came with my phone. It has a variable output, but can pack a whopping 11v-2.25a (24 watts) at its highest. This 24 watts was enough to fast charge my phone, AND have the drive running. Final test: Directly into the note10+. I used a USB C - USB A adapter that came with my phone and connected them together. It worked. My phone was powering the darn thing. So there we have it. This little pocket sized drive (seriously, my wallet is larger) can be plugged into 3.0, 2.0 or directly into my phone. It came formatted NTFS, just the way I prefer. Description: I purchased a black one. As I said, it is wallet-sized. It has one port for the cable, and a small status light. The light appears to stay a solid color for both standby and active. A power failure results in a blinking status light. When the drive is spinning, you can feel a humming purr, barely audible. The casing is plastic, but solid and sleek looking. It has four non-slip dots on the bottom. Pros: Huge storage for the price, powered through USB only, NTFS formatted, small. Cons: None discovered yet. Recommended Uses: This would be a perfect drive for home network storage, office/school/home work. It would also be ideal for gaming consoles even as modern as the XBox One X. Or a handy volume for torrents. Or a handy volume for backing up a system or family photos. Possible Uses: It runs on 3.0. While Pro Gamers might chuckle at the idea, it could be used as a Steam Library. Initial load times might be slower than a built in solid state drive, sure. But so what? This is 5Tb. Portable. For under 120. It could also be used for beginner-level production. Again, it is slower than a dedicated solid state drive, of course. But for a new youtuber, or designer, or developer...this can store a lot of content.

Great product
I bought a wd passport about 8 years ago and I have loved it. So I decided to stick with the company and bought this one. It is so much faster when transfering. No problems since it worked immediately with plug in. So far I am really happy with the new one. I have one for personal things like my college work and pictures. And now one for pictures I use for making things. Glad I bought this one.

Excellent Value and Performance
I recently purchased the WD 4TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 High Capacity Hard Drive and I am extremely satisfied with my purchase. The drive is compact and easy to use - just plug it into my computer's USB port and I'm good to go. The 4TB of storage is more than enough for my needs, and the transfer speeds are reasonable for a standard 5400rpm HDD.. One thing that initially concerned me was the drive's tendency to get hot during use. However, I have used it extensively over the past few weeks and have not experienced any issues with overheating. In terms of value, I believe the WD 4TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 High Capacity Hard Drive offers excellent value for the price and the high capacity and decent transfer speeds make it well worth the investment. If you need a lot of storage on the go and are looking for a reliable and high-performance option, I highly recommend the WD 4TB Elements Portable USB 3.0 High Capacity Hard Drive.

Great hard drive. Everything is great about it. Go for it.
This is a great hard drive. I previously had a 1 TB hard drive of WD and that worked really fine. That is why I decided to go for a 2TB hard drive of WD. Though, Seagate hard drives are much better than WD because they are thinner and they sustain for a long time like WD. I purchased it @Rs. 5599. Pros- 1. WD is a very reliable name in the field of hard drives. So it is reliable. 2. 2-year warranty. 3. small in size. 4. Reading speed is amazing. I got around 150 MBps/ 1.2 Mbps while reading. (Data was a movie and USB port was USB 3.0) 5. Writing speed is also great. I got around 55 MBps/ 440 Mbps while writing on the hard drive. (Data was a movie and USB port was USB 3.0) 6. The speed of reading and writing on USB 2.0 ports is also great. 7. USB 3.0 cable is already included in the package. So you don't need to purchase a USB 3.0 cable separately. 8. The length of the cable is enough for normal usage. 9. The product is original. So you can get is registered on WD website. You will also get your warranty from there. 10. Cheaper than Seagate models. (in general) Cons- 1. If you are in need of a long USB 3.0 cable then you will be disappointed. The length of the cable is just enough for normal usage. 2. The hard drive is somewhat thick. You will get a Seagate hard drive of the same capacity to be slimmer. Final comment- If the price is not a big issue for you and you want a slimmer hard drive then go for Seagate hard drive. Else this is certainly one of the best choices.
