How does the thermometer work if your car doesn't have one from the factory?

Yes this accepts both front and backup camera. You dont need a switch. It will auto turn to backup camera when in reverse. For front camera, press the button to turn it on.thanks

Is there a way to turn off the guide lines (my camera already adds them so I have two sets of guide lines with this display).

Yes you can. Under menu, scale, turn scale to off and the grid lines will turn off

will this work with a BMW 320i?

This will work but you will lose any functions from your current mirror. I don't know if your specific model has the red motion detector etc. This includes a universal mount for the glass.
