I've wanted to expand my crafting horizons, and this did the trick! I'm a rock painter and had purchased wooden coins to paint on when I ran out of rocks or wanted a perfectly round or smooth, flat surface. I quickly learned there's no easy way to seal the paint on the wood. I thought I'd wood burn with tools, but that took extra effort and patience...then I stumbled upon a short video online where someone was teaching how to use this Torch Paste. It's super easy to use, I can do multiple at a time, and they come out great. After cutting my stencil with my Cricut, I put it on the wood I'm using, then brush the Torch Paste on with a plastic brush (no bristles, it's like a tiny plastic spatula - maybe 1/2 inch wide - obviously use something bigger if you're working on a larger area), wait a few minutes, remove the stencil, and heat the paste onto the wood with a heat gun. I usually have some excess on top that I gently scrape off with an Xacto knife or other straight edge.

Works well! Printed a template and used just a little bit of this and it burned in nicely! Keep the heat on and it will eventually burn in. Use too much paste and little bubble will rise up, so use it sparingly!

Bought this to personalize some cutting boards I’m giving as gifts to my friends at our Christmas party this year. I made sure to read a lot if the reviews before using so I would know what mistakes to avoid. I’ll start with the value. Yes, I know the jar is small so it feels that you are not getting a lot for your money, but like so many others have said, a little really does go a long way. Seriously, this little jar will last a long time! I first did a test burn on a light piece of raw craft wood and was impressed how nicely it burned. Next, I was ready for the real thing. It’s important to use a good stencil or even better, a silk screen so that you can squeegee off any excess (very important). Once the paste was applied, I removed my screen, then waited about 10 minutes to allow the paste to dry a bit. After a little trial/error, I came to the conclusion that you get a better result if you let it dry a bit before putting the heat gun to it. The reason being is that it slightly reduces the amount of time needed with the heat gun. The longer you use the heat gun, the more you risk darkening the area around your intended torch paste area. When burning, I kept my heat gun a couple inches from the wood surface. This takes some patience. After about 5 minutes or so, I became frustrated as I was not seeing any results. I think the heat was still drying the paste and once it’s dry is when it starts to darken. The cutting boards I used were a darker wood. I would recommend a lighter wood for best results. It’s too late now, but if I could, I would have used a bamboo cutting board

This was my first venture into wood burning paste. I love that the application is better controlled unlike wood burning pens that bleed out to surrounding areas even when masked off at times. This goes where you put it and stays there. I followed the directions on each use, but feel they should stress "thin" coat remaining. If the amount left on the piece is too thick, I have found that it takes a much higher heat setting to even get the wood to start burning. This intern causes other blemishes. I have had dry wood somehow produce water/sap bubbling up from the amount of heat I had to apply to get the paste to burn the wood. I have revised my method to ensure I get ALL excess paste off the piece prior to removing my stencil. This has had mixed results. It works very well on some items and then on others i am forced to crank up the heat gun to get it to burn. This also browns the surrounding area unintentionally. I have tried stirring the paste to ensure it was all mixed well. That did not seem to have any bearing on the results as well. I still like the paste as when it turns out, it is so much nicer looking than the pens. If anyone has any feedback on this issue, I would be grateful.

Easy to work with, great value

This orange paste worked as advertised but you sure don't need much! We made wood cutting boards for our children and personalized each with their name and year. On the back I made a small stencil with year and our names. I used my Cricut cutting machine and made vinyl stencils. After adhering the stencil on the board I only used a tiny bit of the Torch Paste on the board and spread it with a rubber squeegee to remove any excess. After drying, we removed the vinyl and SLOWLY heated the board to bring out the burnt effect. It worked perfectly. Someday I will try this on other items like clothing. Purchase the smallest jar possible as it lasts forever!

Ummm...let me start by saying I have zero idea if im using this product correctly. But the only instructions came on the jar and I definitely followed them. The photos show how my first attempt went, and it wasn't great. In the places where the product ended up a bit thicker, it bubbled and then burned. But where the paste was thinner, nothing really happened. So thin may mean not too thin. My heat gun is 750 degrees which is a bit higher than the instructions say, so maybe that's the problem? Honestly dont know. I'm going to play around a bit more, but I was really hoping it would be easier.

I was very cautious about buying this product as it was quite expensive and not a very big pot, however I bit the bullet and ordered it.. OMG it’s amazing.. I now longer have to spend hours and hours burning by hand.. I got a nice deep brown burn as well.. it amazing! I was unsure if my crafting heat gun would have enough power but it did and it didn’t take as long as I was expecting it to neither. I didn’t use very much and I was quite surprised as I burnt quite a large piece. I’m hoping smaller pieces come out just as well! Brilliant product.. does exactly what it says it will!

Pictured is my first attempt using Torch paste. Have worked out my errors (marks outside of pattern) so know how to NOT do this again. I love this paste. And it's true, to only use sparingly.
