WORTH IT! WISH I HAD THIS WHEN I WAS A KID!
Finally! A graphic novel worthy of carrying the story of the Bible! Illustrated by Sergio Cariello, The Action Bible brings to life stories of the Bible from cover to cover. Starting with creation and ends in the book of Revelation, every page is filled with the dialogue and dynamic stories of the Bible. Everything from Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the Ark, Abraham and Isaac, Joseph sold into Egypt, Moses and Exodus, the battles of Joshua, the story of David from Shepherd to King & beyond, Elijah and Elisha, Daniel in the Lion's den, The exiles, Esther, Erza, Haggai, Zachariah.... The detailed combination of the four Gospels, the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, the crucifixion, the resurrection, and the new church that is born based on the book of Acts and the letters of the apostles, and the Revelations according to John.... It's all here in this amazing beautifully graphically illustrated book. It rivals the artwork of any world class superhero graphic novel. Why settle for modern-day imitators when you can have the original heroes the world has ever seen in full color illustration in this beautiful graphic Bible! As a retired artist and illustrator, and having worked in comics before, I can attest that this book is highly professionally done both visually and in written content. While the stories are somewhat compressed, they cut right to the chase and the most important values brought forth in the Bible. I wish that when I was younger I had this Bible in my hands. My first inspiration was from a book called, "Miriam's big book of Bible stories". There were beautiful illustrations but not nearly as intense or as amazing as those presented in this book. By comparison that book doesn't compared to this amazing assemblage of biblical stories and resource. You don't need to be a child or a young kid to enjoy it! I bought it for myself and I'm happy I did it! Speaking of young kids, bloodshed and violence are minimized and the dreaded aspects of war are not highlighted as with so many other graphic novels. Death and destruction are not accentuated although not entirely avoided. The stories that are too complex for a young mind, (like incest, rape, murder, etc.) are entirely skipped or minimized so as to keep the overall positive message flowing. The moral values come through without being overtly obvious. The back cover shows a printed price of $29.99 and the book is listed as juvenile nonfiction. I first saw this book at Hobby Lobby. However I discovered Amazon had the same book for a few dollars less than Hobby Lobby which listed it for a lot less then the back cover price. I think the book is an excellent book! The only drawback I discovered is after I took it out of its cellophane wrapping, a few of the pages in the front of the book began to crinkle. The book has not been near dampness or touched by water or anything that would cause this crinkling. I can only assume it was packaged before the inks on the printed page has had complete time to dry. Other than that I couldn't see anything in terms of the books quality to bring to light. There is a dedication page in the front where you can fill out who it is presented to and who it is from along with the date. There is also a table of contents in the front of the book listing the scriptures and the title of the events in the illustrations. Every action packed page of the illustrations are listed in the back of the book as an index. Every scripture referenced in every page number is also given. There is a small humble Bio of Sergio Cariello in the back of the book. The artist worked for marvel comics and DC comics. No wonder you are getting the world-class best action and dynamic illustrations you could ever get for a Bible!

This is definitely the best kids' retelling of the Bible I have tried
This is definitely the best kids' retelling of the Bible I have tried, by far. Many have a lot of moralizing exposition which detracts from the narrative and is unfaithful to the text. This isn't free from that, but it's far closer to a straight-up retelling than the majority. The pictures are good, and the story-telling is clear, fast, gripping. There are small anachronisms (e.g. we are told that God made Adam and Eve with immortal souls, which isn't in the original and isn't in keeping with the time the text was produced -- never mind, historical accuracy is obviously not the main goal here), but there are also plenty of things this version gets right (e.g. it doesn't suggest that the Fall was Eve's fault because she was a woman). Lots of interpretation is added in (e.g. to make God's favoring of Abel's sacrifice make sense -- in the original the favoritism is not explained at all); but the interpretation is mostly pretty tasteful, relatively speaking. I find myself editing only a little while reading aloud, e.g. I draw the line at saying that everybody killed in the Flood was "evil" as if from a position of narrative authority; but I feel the need to do this kind of thing much less with the Action Bible than others I've tried. It also makes the stories go fast enough and clearly enough that it is a real page-turner. Everybody in my house has enjoyed it. I got this originally for my then-7 year old daughter, who has read it several times. She is now 11 and knows the main Bible-story canon far better than many of her church-going or shul-going peers. Her younger sisters, age 5 and 6, have been interested in having me read it aloud for them; I read the story of Job to them this morning (and cried...), and the kids were begging for another story after it; the eleven year old doesn't want to share, so I am getting another copy. I should also note that I am an atheist. I'm very happy to have my kids know the Bible, because it is such an important, fascinating and influential amalgam of literary/ historical texts.

Awesome--Fun Bible for the Whole Family
The Bottomline for the Action Bible is that my son and daughter now show the same enthusiasm for reading this Bible as they had for comic books. The graphics are super; they are on par with the best graphic comic books. The writing also incorporates action-oriented writing in the comic book genre into the Biblical narrative. The writing and graphics bring the Bible to life in a way that is unique to the Action Bible. For some background...I am an Anglican Priest who has studied Hebrew and Greek and references various Biblical translations in my studies, and I am thrilled with the Action Bible as a new approach to introducing my kids to God's Story. Obviously, this is no replacement for literal translations and interpretations of Scripture; however, it is not merely for fun either. This presents the Biblical narrative in a unique and awe-inspiring light. The Action Bible creates a fast-paced exciting tone that grips readers and draws them into the action of the stories, miracles, struggles, triumphs, failures and life of Christ and the church. It opens the door to conversations about the Bible and its teachings that allow parents to set the context and meaning of God's story and its message to young readers. Personally, I think the Action Bible has a greater draw to youths than traditional super-hero comics; it serves as an added resource for discipleship and as a tool for building relationships with children.

Bought As Gift For Nephew, Wanted To Read It Myself!
Until I found this book on Amazon, I didn't know they made comic book Bibles. I looked at a couple other Bibles and decided on this one based on the Look Inside function. When it arrived, I unwrapped it to write an inscription on the inside for my nephew's 15th birthday and I leafed thru it and showed my husband. I am quite impressed with the artwork! And with the story context. As a 40-something year old adult, even I was drawn to the stories and the art. Each section is 1 to 3 pages long, perfect for today's youth and their shorter attention spans, and I was really drawn to it. I believe a child or teen who would never sit down and read the Bible would happily read this book, and probably more than once, and probably even share it with friends and peers. It's not the King James, certainly, but it gives basic Biblical concepts and stories in a format that will attract and keep the interest of its readers. The chapters and verses the stories reference are clearly marked at the top of each section so the reader can pull out the KJV or NIV and read more to find out what happens next. As for the one I bought, it's all wrapped in birthday paper and packed into a box to mail out of state, but I wish it wasn't! I would go read it from cover to cover right now. I hope my nephew will do the same.

Accurate Storybook with Great Illustrations
I really like this book and how interactive it is with all the pictures. So far, my son hasn't put it down! He is 8 years old and recently asked for a "real Bible." I wanted to keep him interested in the Word, so I opted for this instead of a traditional Bible. He is learning so much and the stories are accurate while adding things here and there to make it "story-like." The only thing I wish is that some real Scripture verses and references were included but I do have to say, each story starts out with a title as says "based on ....." with the Scripture reference. So, we read some of the story from the Bible and then go through the "story" in the Action Bible. Overall, I really like that it has kept my son's attention and that he ASKS to read it together and we have a chance to explain the stories and the practical application behind each one.

perfect for your boy!
My son got the Good and Evil comic book at his camp, which is similar to a black and white comic book version of some bible stories. I got this for him for christmas and have been so pleased with it! No ones discriptions can truely capture the amazing graphics in this bible! It is breathtaking! My son loves the format and literally disappears for hours reading his bible. This is exactly what you would like to have happen! It is not a complete bible, but I do love that they do some summary where the detail could confuse a child. For instance, the Book of Job is included, not in it's entire text, but in summary of the entire story! My son now can tell you who Job was, what happened to him and how he and his friends responded in the situations. (just fyi, the graphics in Job make your heart wrench for the horrible suffering he was enduring!) If the reason you are buying this is to fuel your child's interest in the Bible, to draw them in and engage them and make the Word of God relevant to thier life and understandable, this is the Bible you are looking for. If you are looking to stick to the whole text of the bible, than this may not be for you. It should be treated more as a supplement then. Another thing I would note is that because of some of the graphics, this probably isn't for a younger reader. My son is 10 and an avid reader, plus he is all boy. He has no trouble at all with understanding it!

AMAZING!
My 9-year-old LOVED this and has read it cover to cover twice already. She's often bored by Bible stories she's 'heard a million times' but this Bible really changed her relationship with the scriptures and has allowed her to understand and connect with the stories in a totally new way. We all love the Action Bible and have recommended it to lots of friends!

Great for kids ages 8-12
I bought the action bible for my son who was 10 years old at the time. He likes comic books so I thought this would get his attention. I read it myself to make sure it is biblically accurate before giving it to him. It is in fact accurate but a little abridged when it comes to details behind some of the stories. For example it summarizes David’s journey from poetic God fearing shepherd to king of Israel. Touching all the major points but not getting to in depth on any of them. Overall I would recommend this bible for children ages 8-12. The artwork is intriguing and lends to the storytelling. Just the kind of thing to interest kids enough to enjoy reading it.

Spettacolare!
