University Physics with Modern Physics, Twelfth Edition continues an unmatched history of innovation and careful execution that was established by the bestselling Eleventh Edition. Assimilating the best ideas from education research, this new edition provides enhanced problem-solving instruction, pioneering visual and conceptual pedagogy, the first systematically enhanced problems, and the most pedagogically proven and widely used homework and tutorial system available. Using Young & Freedman's research-based ISEE (Identify, Set Up, Execute, Evaluate) problem-solving strategy, students develop the physical intuition and problem-solving skills required to tackle the text's extensive high-quality problem sets, which have been developed and refined over the past five decades. Incorporating proven techniques from educational research that have been shown to improve student learning, the figures have been streamlined in color and detail to focus on the key physics and integrate 'chalkboard-style' guiding commentary. Critically acclaimed โvisualโ chapter summaries help students to consolidate their understanding by presenting each concept in words, math, and figures. Renowned for its superior problems, the Twelfth Edition goes further. Unprecedented analysis of national student metadata has allowed every problem to be systematically enhanced for educational effectiveness, and to ensure problem sets of ideal topic coverage, balance of qualitative and quantitative problems, and range of difficulty and duration. This is the standalone version of University Physics with Modern Physics, Twelfth Edition.

Great reference for old, retired scientists
Nothing missing here - a solid first or second-year college text.

Decent Text
The text covers all the material in physics well and at a good pace. The material is not crammed or convoluted and there are plenty of examples to go along with the material. There are problems at the end of each chapter that are separated by section so you can focus on one topic, there are also mixed problems without labels so you can practice for exams, and a few challenge problems that are indeed quite challenging so all you physics geeks out there. In total there are about 100 to 110 problems at the end of every chapter (doesn't include the great examples within every chapter's reading). Reading this text allowed me to get an A in a physics course at Cornell with very little prior knowledge of physics. The only downside is if you buy all the volumes in one book, it is VERY large haha.

Well written, logical order of concepts, manageable to teach yourself.
I can't remember what the stated condition of the used book was when I purchased it, so I won't be too hard on that. The binding was a little wonky, but it's an 1,800 page book, so you'll have that. Otherwise good condition. As for the actual content this is a really good book. Good, well written math related textbooks are hard to come by. I'm teaching myself physics and this book gives you information in a logical order. Most important first step for studying any field that is new to you is getting a general understanding of the language and vocabulary used. The writers do a great job compared to other books I've attempted to read in related fields.Might take a couple years to work through this thing but I'm enjoying it so far with help from YouTube here and there.

The best physics textbook I've ever used
The only way a student could fail to master the physics presented in this book is if he or she lacked the prerequisite understanding of mathematics, but even there the book tries to help. It is a little large to carry around, but that is a small price to pay for an accessible way to learn calculus-based physics.Easily the best science textbook I've ever read or used. Five stars is not enough.

Big, Fat, Textbook
This is one big, fat textbook, with about 1600 pages. I wouldn't want to have to carry this back and forth from a class. It's OK for home study though. The binding seems pretty secure. The text is a little smaller than I would prefer. I've got old eyes, for what that's worth. I'm going to look into getting stronger reading glasses to work with this book, and other textbooks like it.It's got big pages, densely packed with text. I'm not sure what it says yet, but it's a lot of words. I hope it's not overly verbose. It covers all the usual topics I think, including modern physics which is Relativity and atomic stuff. 280 pages just on that.It uses various colors to sort and organize topics. It includes lots of color (and some BW) photos, and has lot's of diagrams. It breaks topics down into manageable bite sized pieces and labels them all. It provides lots of Examples worked out, and has sections called Problem-Solving Strategies with a blue background. There are Chapter Summary pages, with a formula review summary in yellow, and lots more problems and "Discussion" questions. It has lot's of exercise problems, and includes answers to the odd ones. All in all, this book seems well worth the $20 or it costs to acquire a copy these days.

Beautiful Daily
Every day cracking into this book is like opening pack after pack of Pokemon booster pack cards. The smell, the promise of a holographic Charizard, losing games with your sister. It's all there. One day you're saving Harrison Ford from a rope that needs to be balanced against its tensile breaking point, and the next you're dealing with the 84m/s 400kg box flying through the room. Definitely buy, definitely read (maybe even at the expense of actually attending class.)

Good quality, helpful for beginner physics
This was required for my physics 101 class in college. It was in great shape for a used book. Physics wasn't my favorite, but the book did what it was supposed to, so I can't complain. :D The diagrams and examples were all helpful, and generally pretty easy to understand.
