Very interesting for history lovers. Coins represent a reliable and documented element in history and they are beautiful to watch

The author has given us a clear, concise, up-to-date, and accessible review to the subject, copiously illustrated (with high-quality coin images presented often to scale, and often in color). Dr. Yarrow finds a good balance here between generalization and specificity in presenting the material - the book is neither a fluff survey, nor a terribly heavy lift for the non-specialist. Serious scholarship is rarely made this approachable - this book would make an excellent learning text for undergraduates, or could even serve as a quick introduction in a graduate seminar. Just a small note that the weight given for the sestertius in Figure 1.35 (RRC 340/3a, 3.99 grams) cannot be correct, and appears to have been erroneously pulled down from the denarius in the preceding figure.

It is so well written it can also be used as a textbook. Many illustrations, charts, and maps clarify the text.
