Good basics for drawing cartoon characters
Read the book through, before you try drawing what the author draws. This book, you will find, is not a learn to draw book, but it gives you multiple ideas on how to draw your characters, so they express what you want them to express.Ed

A fun and comprehensive book, but perhaps not best for beginners
I have several of Chris Hart's books and am pleased with all of them. This one is my fave! It is a very comprehensive book that takes you through the process of drawing cartoons. While a beginner could get decent results, I think this book is more for those with some drawing experience. These are more like guidelines for drawing cartoons and not a step-by-step tutorial. You will find people and animals in this book along with different environments to put your characters in. He also includes ideas for drawing shoes, hands, eyes, mouths and a lot of other things. It's a great book for those with some drawing experience and a good book for beginners to work up to.

I really like the style Chris draws in. This book is easy to copy the characters that are in it. .

Cropped pages
The book content and the author are great, but this was a bad adaptation to Kindle. Every page is cropped and text and images are cut and parts left out. I thought it was just on my phone but I then opened it on my iPad and it's the same.I don't know why they didn't correct it before publishing.I hope they can update it, they I would give ot 5 stars.

TItle not justified!
I am kind of disappointed. I am huge fan of Christopher Hart. When the title says "ultimate character design" I expected it to teach me how to draw different styles of characters. Not the generic Christopher Hart style which he demonstrates in all of his other books. This is what this book looks like How to draw a businessman, newyork city worker, Psychiatrist, kid,scientist..... and so on. All it does is show a bunch of images of Steriotype characters. If you are looking for professional character design advice, pick someother book. But if this is your first cartoon/how to draw instruction book. You just found yourself an killer book to get started.

A fun book I think could help any artist in some way.
I enjoy how the author Christopher Hart simplifies the process as many others do, and most of us have probably seen before, with shapes, perspective and proportions while still allowing and encouraging the reader to develop their own style instead of just mirroring what he is doing in the book. I have several of Harts's books that I as well as 11 y/o twin son and daughter enjoy, from cartooning books to Manga and more complex character design editions. If you are the type of person that is most comfortable learning from books I highly suggest picking this up because it is definitely something that will be a welcome addition to any other art instructional and design book collection. I find that Christopher Harts's books like this one can serve and inspire from the experienced to novice artists. Lastly, it makes a cool item to share with others that show an interest in drawing, coloring and creating characters of any sort, not just cartoons.
