Ramayana

This is not the original epic poem "Ramayana," it is in fact a sort of summary of the famous poem. However, it summarizes in a way that keeps the story interesting. As an English major specializing in Ancient poetry, especially epic poetry of the the English and Latin speaking world, I was immediately drawn to the idea of an epic poem which did not originate in the world of the poetry I have become accustomed to. I thought it would be interesting to read an in-depth summary first, and then read the actual poem, since I am not entirely used to Indian culture and ideas/ideals. This book provides the reader not only with a plot-line, but with an explanation of this diverse culture as well. It is a very interesting read and is, as I take it, true to the original. I see it as a must-read for anyone wanting to read the actual epic poem but who is not from India or the surrounding areas.

OMKAR or Pranavanadham. The first sound that followed the event of the creation of the universe is said to have been the 'OM. The primordial sound of creation. Aum is a Sanskrit word. Sanskrit is one of the oldest known written languages on Earth. The OM/ AUM/ ॐ is the basis of all sounds. It is the universal symbol for God. the 'Mantra of Mantras', the Vishnu Nama, universal name of God. This Mantra is said to be the abode of cosmic consciousness. This symbol is the universe, all that is & could be. It does not stand for the universe, it is the universe. It is extremely auspicious.

I bought this for a study group and this editor was recommended by our teacher, an Indian woman with a Ph.D in Sanskrit. Anyone looking for insight into Hindu culture and spirituality must read this at some point. And I highly recommend studying it as part of a group with a knowledgable guide.

Well written translation of original sanskrit scripts. Quite lucid, taking the reader to that era when the devils-rakshasas used to overpower the rishis and righteous men.

I have read several translations of the Ramayana and have found that this one by Rajagopalachari is most easily agreeable to the Western reader who has little exposure to Indian culture or history. Easy reading. I would also recommend his translation of the Mahabharata.

It seems to be translated by someone for whom english isn't the mother tongue which I found charming. It's lovely how the stories unfold into each other. The story is basically about a conflict between Lord Rama and Ravanna, that's the pretext but it gives an intimate perspective of the Indian point of view.

This book is one of the classics from Rajaji. It is written in simple English and is a very good read particularly for kids

I Love Indian ancient stories, they inspire even today’s most creative authors with their imagination. Easy to read and follow.

the ancient story of Rama and Sita, and also Ravana and the monkey god Hanuman. This is well worth reading if you want to know the ancient history of India, and will complement knowledge of their gods and culture.

Concise and well abridged version of the great epic

Great book.

Such a wonderful story filled with values. The book is really exciting which I never actually expected. Thought it would be boring, but still wanted to read as it is our history. Highly recommended. Must read I would say.

It seems writer has no knowledge of feelings attached with Shri Ram and Sita. Worst novel.I would not recommend to anyone. Unnecessary vulgarity is added in the novel. Usually Ramayan is referred to cultivate good values in human biengs....this novel is opposite of that thinking.
