My stirmate did not come with a charger. do i have to purchase this separately?

Apparently yes.  It is sold separately.  I'm still debating about buying it but I am happy with the stirrer.

Question 2

Will this stir something as thick as chili?  The chili I make is pretty thick...a 9v battery doesn't seem like it would give enough power

We have cooked different chili recipes using StirMATE® with no difficulty. The 9v battery drives a high torque gear motor for up to 13 hours. We also offer a Li-ion rechargeable battery and charger that works even harder - it keeps going strong until it stops when it is discharged. If you like, please send us your recipe and we will prepare it and give you the best answer for your "pretty thick" chili. is the 9v battery a unique shape, and what type of battery is it?

The StirMATE® battery is a regular 9 Volt battery. It powers the StirMATE for up to 12 hours. We also offer a rechargeable Li-Ion battery with charger that can be re-charged many times. The rechargeable battery is by far more economical in the long run and is environmentally friendlier. Thank you.
