Obituary's latest release is awesome. The LP is a great addition to my library. I had to update my review. This album plain & simple follows right after Slowly We Rot, Cause Of Death & End Complete.I seriously believe that this self titled album IS the best Obituary has released since The End Complete.Not saying the other releases are bad far from it. But this album hits all the right places in my ear. The groove the speed the aggressiveness just spill out Obituary.Keep listening this album grooves and annihilates like Obituary are so good at.And more you listen the better it gets every time.Can't wait for their next release supposedly sometime in 2019 . Keep em comin!!!

this is the obituary that i know brutally heavy and rhythmic guitar riffs,solid drumming, sick drum fills and double bass like a panzer tank rolling up on you.this and inked in blood are back to the old school roots without Allen West's leads.personally i hated Xecutioner's Return & Darkest Day it didn't sound like obituary to me but Frozen in Time was classic it sounded like they picked up where they left off with World Demise & the end complete same with inked in blood old school obituary. you are missing out if you don't get this

I’ve seen this in almost every record store i’ve been to in the last year, but passed every time. I ended up getting free tickets to one of there shows, so I figured why not pick up the album and give it a try. I didn’t think it would be anywhere near as good as the older stuff. I was totally wrong. It blew me away and i play it often. Give it a listen.

Master piece of collection!!!!

Again, it's Obituary! However, this is among my favorites. Age has done them well it would seem. Obit is the same, forever; though it seems this offering has a slight evolution (however sludge-like) in its sound. My favorite tracks, here, are End It Now, Kneel Before Me, Turned To Stone, Straight To Hell, and No Hope. This is just a great record, and a great band!

This is my favorite from Obituary!! End It Now!!! Heck ya!!! Rhythms are basic the leads are cool.

Version advertised is a digipak with the extra bonus track. Firstly received standard case version. Returned and then received a digipak version but no bonus track!

Un album d'Obituary, on le connaît un peu avant de l'avoir écouté. Ca, c'est ce qu'on se dit avant de le poser sur sa platine (parce qu'on l'a évidemment acheté, tout comme les précédents, où l'on s'était fait la même réflexion). Mais on est un peu bête parfois, non ?Même si cela reste objectivement vrai, car Obituary a sa patte et elle est bien reconnaissable, il y a des crus plus inspirés que d’autres. J'avais trouvé le dernier album, "Inked In Blood" bien fichu, meilleur que les deux précédents en tout cas, malgré une fin d'album un peu moins passionnante. Voilà donc ce qui m’a poussé (enfin... disons avec un peu plus de motivation que pour les albums précédents) vers ce nouvel album des Deathsters floridiens, pionnier parmi les pionniers du style (on rappelle que le groupe existe depuis 1988 mais qu’il avait déjà commencé son existence bien avant, sous le nom de Xecutioner), toujours présents après toutes ces années.Depuis 2012, le line-up n’a pas changé. Les frères Tardy (chant et batterie) et Trevor Peres (guitare rythmique), fondateurs du groupe, sont toujours fidèles au poste en compagnie de Terry Butler (basse) et Ken Andrews (guitare solo).Ce dixième album, sans titre, sans pochette non plus, avec juste le logo de l'époque "The End Complete" dessus (avec le dragon), démarre sur les chapeaux de roues. "Brave", du haut de ses deux minutes dix, explose tout. Mais on ne s’arrête pas là pour les titres qui arrachent puisque "Sentence Day" qui suit ne fait pas semblant non plus. Sur ce titre, Ken Andrews envoie du solo dans tous les coins. Il faut dire que cette fois-ci, il a participé à la composition des morceaux de l’album avec Trevor Peres et Donald Tardy (ce qui n'était pas le cas sur le précédent). Evidemment, ça change pas mal de choses, notamment au sujet de la place de la guitare lead. Ces deux premiers morceaux valent en tout cas déjà le déplacement... on plutôt l'investissement.Avec "A Lesson In Vengeance", on retombe sur du tempo plus lourd, celui qu’affectionne particulièrement Obituary. Les solos inspirés sont encore de la partie. Comme souvent, les rythmiques bien lourdes sont les plus fréquentes sur ce nouvel album. Mais c’est aussi ce qu’on aime chez ce groupe. A ce sujet, les Floridiens ont sans doute cherché à faire plaisir à leur fanbase en essayant de coller au plus près à leurs vieux albums. "End It Now", "It Lives", "Turned To Stone" et "Straight To Hell" me rappellent par exemple l'esprit des morceaux de "The End Complete", avec passages bien pesants et sombres. Et en visionnant la vidéo du titre "Ten Thousand Ways To Die", on voit qu’ils n’ont rien perdu de leur légendaire sens de l’humour (noir).L'album est court (trente-six minutes trente, bonus inclus) mais ne contient que du bon, pas d’essoufflement sur la fin comme sur l’opus précédent. Même le titre bonus, "No Hope", ne sent pas le remplissage. On retrouve ici un Obituary inspiré, certainement pas à la hauteur de ses deux premiers albums (intouchables) mais dans la bonne moyenne, sans aucun doute.Du Obituary sans surprise mais du Obituary de qualité. Voilà comment on pourrait résumer ce dixième album du groupe. C’est, de mon point de vue, tout simplement leur meilleur album depuis longtemps. yeah this has to be one of this legendary death metal bands finest works ,it has been a while to be honest since i listened to a lot of death metal having been indulging in NWOBHM classic reissues and a lot of power metal recently,but i recently bought a load of death metal reissues and one of the top quality bands has to me always been obituary,and boy am i glad i did as this is from start to finish a modern day classic but still old-school death metal maybe a modern production has helps but the quality of the tracks are awesome ,the one thing i did notice is that a few of the tracks especially sentence day and a lesson in vengeance are faster in a thrash sort of way bringing home fully their original influences espesially celtic frost ,in fact frost -style riffs are written all over the place on this one ,like i said this S/T beauty has got a lot of thrash on it but still that classic stomp sound of yesteryear ,so not a bad track on it and faster than previous releases with john tardy still gunting away but you can actually make out some of the lyrics without the now no lyric sheet tradition of the band ,trevor peres rythem guitar as great as it has always been in fact it truly believe he is one of the best rythem gutarists in metal as a whole but because it is death metal is overlooked ,brother donald drumming is some of the best he has ever done ,maybe lead guitarist kenny andrews has definetly added something to the band as his solos are awesome here and faster ,so even if your not always a specifically a death metal fan but still like metal in general i would recommend this wholehearlty in fact it is definetly one of the best metal releases this year so far ,in go and get their back catalogue especially classic cause of death ,recomend highly.

In Ihrer ca 30jährigen Bandkarriere muss ich für mich persönlich eingestehen nach etlichen vielen Durchläufen in Ruhe das es meiner Meinung nach das beste Album Obituary`s ist.Ich höre Sie seit 25 Jahren und habe mit der LP Cause od Death angefangen. Ich kann durchaus behaupten mit der besseren Technick nach knapp 3 Jahrzehnten das "OBITUARY mit diesem ihrem selbstbetiteltem Album "Obituary" (das übrigens das 10. Album der Deathmetal-Helden ist) alle Vorgänger, ja sogar SWR und das eben erwähne COD" übertreffen. Und das wo John Tardy mit knapp 50 Jahren schon zum älteren Eisen gehört er sämtliche andere in den Schatten brüllt. Die Ohren wackeln und die Gläser schwappen über wenn Obituary loslegt. Der Bruder an der Schießbude trommelt wie ein Großmeister genial in die Felle. Meist im Midtempo-Bereich (das mir ohnehin oft persönlich besser gefällt) knüppelt und schreddert der Silberling alles in den Boden.Ein kurzes Wort zur First-Edition: Richtig geile Aufmachung, Digi mit toller Silberprägung .... ein Prachtstück !!!Lange habe ich die Band nicht mehr gehört und ging derzeit oft mit Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, und vielen weiteren Death (auch Black) Krachern in die Dauerschleife. Seit Inked in Blood ging es nach Pause und Durchhängern wieder in Richtung Genialität und hier ist sie vollkommen und läuft abwechselnd mit der ebenso tollen neuen Trashscheibe von Kreator durchgehend . Ich hoffe bald auf OBI Live-Konzerte mit gutem Support in Deutschland.Ein kleiner Tipp am Rande, hört doch auch mal in die neue Bethlehem rein, die DAME am Mikro lässt einen so richtig erschaudern und J. Bratsch geht auch wieder "Back to the Roots" was der Band wahrlich gut tut.Fazit: Obituary - Obituary 10/10 Punkten von mir.

Also ich muß hier mal ne Lanze brechen... Bisher lese ich NUR gute Rezensionen und ich bin echt überrascht das wirklich niemandem auffällt wie extrem minimalistisch und vorhersehbar das neue Obituary Album ist. Was wieder einmal zeigt das es scheinbar gut funktioniert. In einer Zeit in der Musik meistens entweder im Auto oder auf Konzerten konsumiert wird brauchen die Leute anscheinend nicht mehr.. Keine Ahnung..Kommen wir erstmal zu den guten Dingen:Obituary liefern tatsächlich die besten Riffs seit "The End Complete" ab! Songs wie "Kneel before me" oder Straight to hell" sind so dermaßen Old School das sie mich sogar an seelige Death/ Massacre Zeiten erinnern. Gitarrist Ken Andrews liefert eine hervorragendie Arbeit ab! Sein Stil scheint eine gelungene Mischung aus allen vorherigen Gitarristen zu sein plus ein wenig Rick Rozz (Death/Massacre) Karakter. Jedoch ohne an die Klasse eines James Murphy heranzureichen.. Der Sound der Platte selbst ist sehr roh und laut und John Tardys Stimme klingt so fies und röchelnd wie schon lange nicht mehr! Cool!Soweit so gut. Nun das was mich wirklich stört:Nahezu jeder Song besteht aus 2 bis maximal (!) 4 Riffs, die sich unglaublich vorhersehbar abwechseln und über durschnittlich 3 Minuten runtergeholzt werden. "A Lesson in Vengeance" kommt sogar mit einem einzigen Riff (!!) daher. Auch wenn es ein colles Riff ist: Mir ist das zu wenig. Nimmt man alle 9 Nummern zusammen (Ten Thousand Ways To Die kannte man schon..) kommt man nicht mal auf 20 Ideen. Dazu kommt das das Album mit "Brave" und "Sentence Day" (wieder einmal) schnell losgeht und der rest des Albums wieder im Midtempo daherplätschert. Selbst die alles zermalmenden doomigen Parts sucht man vergebens. Es wird schnell klar wofür die Songs gemacht sind: Für Live Konzerte. Kurz, eingängig, vorhersehbar und gut! Sodas wirklich JEDER der die Songs zum ersten mal hört sofort mitmachen kann.. Ansich ja nicht schlecht aber mir als Musikfan ist das einfach zu schlicht. Desweiteren ist das Coverartwork ebenfalls eine kleine Entäuschung. Andreas Marshall anzuheuern das Logo auszumalen ist wie Perlen vordie Säue. Ich dachte zuerst es sei das "Not Final" Cover aber es kommt tatsächlich genauso minimalistisch daher wie der Rest. Klar, das Geld wird nicht mehr mit Plattenverkäufen verdient sondern Live. Da muß man professionell reagieren und weniger Arbeit in die Produktion als in die Liveschiene stecken. Und wenns fuktioniert, warum nicht. Aber die Scheibe als "bestes Obituary" Album zu betiteln oder sogar als "progressiv" (Hahahaha!) .. Sorry, das ist doch wohl ein Scherz! Ich denke ein guter Produzent (wie Scott Burns seinerzeit?) hätte vielleicht aus den 9 Stücken tatsächlich 5 gemacht die es mit "Cause Of Death" oder "The End Complete" aufnehmen hätten können. Aber so..? So bleibt es für mich ein Album das durchaus gut ist aber einfach zu wenig daraus gemacht wurde..
