Can it go on the beach?

Yes, this can be taken to the beach.

I think so. Our two-year-old grandson loves it. He climbs in it and sits there by himself. It has been stable even the couple of times that he decided to stand in it , although I wouldn't recommend that!

Does this have a locking mechanism to hold it open? We have a different brand kids chair that does and it is a huge pain to use.

No, it does not. My 2 year old can open and close it himself.
