A brand new edition of this essential companion to the Harry Potter stories, with a new foreword from J.K. Rowling (writing as Newt Scamander), and 6 new beasts! Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them , Newt Scamander's classic compendium of magical creatures, has delighted generations of wizarding readers. Now, in this updated edition with a new foreword by Newt himself and the unveiling of six beasts little known outside the American wizarding community, Muggles too have the chance to discover where the Thunderbird lives, what the Puffskein eats, and why shiny objects should always be kept away from the Niffler.Proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Comic Relief and J.K. Rowling's international charity, Lumos, which will do magic beyond the powers of any wizard. If you feel that this is insufficient reason to part with your money, one can only hope that passing wizards feel more charitable if they see you being attacked by a Manticore. Review: High quality - Great hardcover addition if you plan on collecting books in the Harry Potter universe! Review: Breathtakingly entertaining - One of the pure joys of my reading/listening time recently has been the audiobook of J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them narrated by Newt Scamander himself, Eddie Redmayne. This was a wonderful surprise – I really wasn’t expecting it to be as entertaining as it was. This is a “revised edition” film tie-in, to include an additional footnote by Scamander commenting on the events of the film and implying more editions will be released as more Fantastic Beasts films are released. It certainly whetted my appetite for more of Mr Scamander’s adventures. The audio edition is described as enhanced for audio with original sound design. This audiobook includes “audio footnotes” which have been treated with a sound effect to differentiate them from the main narration. These includes very subtle sound effects of the various creatures about which Scamander is talking, which really added a lot to the listening experience. What I hadn’t expected was just how funny it would be. I regularly found myself laughing out loud. Who knew that the Loch Ness Monster was actually a publicity hungry kelpie? I suspect this will be a go-to book to put a smile on my face for a long time to come. As a bonus, proceeds from the sale of the books go to Rowling’s Lumos charity and also the UK’s Comic Relief. A wonderful listen and definitely worth the five stars I gave it.

Fantastic Beast hardcover book
I bought the hardcover one and it’s supposed to be brand new. However, the book I got in the mail have scratches and a few dents on the cover. Besides that, the condition of the book is okay.

Awesome book for any fan or ignoramus
And... shocker! JK Rowling wrote another 5-star book! Honestly, if there were more stars to give, she'd get them. This book is a "textbook" from the Harry Potter wizarding world, "written by Newt Scamander". It details all the magical beast every decent wizard should know about, its level of menace, and interesting information. If all textbooks were written like this Fantastic Beasts, students would be reading them voluntarily. It is funny and light, interesting and quirky. Like all of the HP books (but without the darkness of Death Eaters and deaths - if you haven't yet read HP, I'm not sure what you're waiting for). For any HP fan (that should be all of you), this book is an awesome add-on. It also stands alone and makes a great read, no matter your prior knowledge so if you want to give this to a Muggle (non-wizard) to try to bait him into the world, that would be smart. In all, anyone would enjoy reading this. It's fun, educational (kind of), and creative.

I like it, like it, LIKE IT!!!!!
Thank you, it is just how I was hoping it would be: telling me about the individual kinds of creatures!!!

Fantastic Beasts Review
This book was okay! It really didn’t grab my attention like some of her other books. I felt like the movie was better!

Great book but just know…
I loved this book! I have nothing to complain about and it is retain very informative, but just to clarify it is more of an encyclopedia of Beasts and less of a story. At first I thought I would be reading tale about discovering these beasts. Either way tho it was a really entertaining book. Was a quick and easy read! Highly recommend

A great companion to any Harry Potter collection
I absolutely love the Harry Potter series. I can't count how many times I have re-read the books. I thought it would be fun to order Fantastic Beast & Where to Find Them in anticipation of the upcoming movie and also to add to my collection of books. Please note: This is NOT a story-based book. This is more of an encyclopedia style read of the beasts. There are funny notations by the various Harry Potter characters in the margins and also within the pages. It makes it neat to read little anecdotes from them. I enjoyed getting to look up the creatures and find out information about where they might be found within the story. I found myself laughing at many of the little quirky notes that Harry, Ron, and Hermione had penciled into the book as well. All in all, this is a great addition to any Harry Potter fan's book collection. I purchased this item at full price.

A must have book for all potterheads
As Professor Dumbledore declared in the foreword that “no wizarding household is complete without a copy of this book.” So I wasted no time and got myself a copy at Flourish and Botts! My very own duplicate of Harry Potter’s copy and I enjoyed it a lot especially Professor Dumbledore’s foreword! You only have to read a part of his foreword to be convinced to read the book. But what I enjoyed even more were Ron’s, Harry’s and Hermione’s scribbling on random pages of the book. Just a few samples: “Harry loves Moaning Myrtle” (Bahaha!) ”The 1965 Ban on Experimental Breeding has made the creation of new species illegal.” ---> “but no one’s told Hagrid.” I’m pretty sure it’s Ron who classified ACROMANTULA with 10 X’s. (Lol!) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the result of many years research and discusses at some length the definition of the word 'beast', and indeed which creatures may be categorised as beasts. Also covered is the ongoing Muggle ignorance of magical creatures. Clause 73 of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy is explained as reason for magical beasts being in hiding, and there is also information about how that is done. Disillusionment charms, memory charms and the Office of Misinformation all have a role to play. What then follows is an alphabetical list of fantastic beasts, all of which have been classified according to the Ministry of Magic as belonging to one of five categories: * Boring (Although Newt in the film would never describe creatures as boring which this book does, the character was fascinated by all creatures.) * Harmless and may be domesticated * A competent wizard should be able to cope with them * Dangerous and requires specialist wizard knowledge * Known wizard killer or impossible to train or domesticate There's everything from Centaurs and Flobberworms, to Kneazles, Nifflers and Wampus Cats. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a book for every Harry Potter fan: read it from cover to cover, browse and learn more about the magical universe, and refer to it as you read the Harry Potter series, or watch the movies.

A good brief encyclopedia
I bought this book because I wanted to practice my English and also learn something more about the Hogwarts universe. It's very important to say this is not the movie book but the compendium of all animals that appear in the movie.

Exceptionally well written
Well done Newt Scamander! This book contains all the intricate details of a muggle encyclopedia, with a concise introduction to beasts that gives you a brief history of beasts, and some information as to what animals are classed specifically as 'beasts'. Following this introduction is an A-Z of beasts - many that have appeared countless times in the 'Harry potter' series. It is clearly set out, and will amuse both young witches, wizards and muggles as well as the older generations! This book is excellent for an avid reader wanting to stay immersed in the wonderful world of Harry Potter. The scribblings in the pages by Ron, Harry and Hermione make the read hilarious - a recommended buy!
