I love Chris Carter! Excellent book! Very disturbing and very graphic - but that is just what you get when you read him! Definitely recommend!

I am a fan of serial killer books and have read many. This is one of the best ones I have every read. With Robert Hunter as the detective, the story progresses quickly and skillfully. Great read

Story 5/5 Narration 5/5 The Night Stalker by Chris Carter is yet another brilliant story featuring my favorite detective. Once again, Carter delivers a well-written, gripping thriller with an unpredictable plot and a shocking twist. His imagination is truly unmatched. Every time I start one of Robert Hunter’s cases, I can’t put the book down. His investigations are always conducted with intelligence and precision, making the hunt for the killer as fascinating as it is intense. The way the villain tortures his victims is beyond horrific; I could almost feel their agony, and it was excruciating. These women suffered in ways that are deeply disturbing. If you’re looking for a captivating and unforgettable brutal thriller, I highly recommend this book.

This is the first book that I have read of this author, but will certainly not be the last, The Night Stalker commences with a rush on page one and does not let up until the last page. It is the type of book that you can immerse yourself in and block out everything around you. Well done to the author in writing such a great read.

Oh Chris.....you did it again. Kept me up late all night reading your book. I could not put it down. Over 400 pages in 2 nights. These stories jump out at you and keep you turning the pages saying "just one more chapter". Sick twisted plot as usual. Best serial killer stories EVER!!!!

I must admit I do like the "who done it" aspect of this series. But I am just amazed at the imagination (hopefully it is imagination and not based on fact!) of Chris Carter. How does he conjure up such gruesome ways to murder someone??? I am currently reading the fourth in the series, not thinking too much on the "gruesomeness" but on the twists and turns of the story and the developing characters. However, why are words such as "got to", "want to", "kind of" replaced constantly with gotta, wanna, kinda? Poetic licence at times, said in context at times...but all the time??? Sorry, just a bit annoying. But, I will read the whole series!

The ending isn't obvious. Well written and good story line. The description of the characters, places and events gives you a mental picture of what is transpiring and makes it hard to put the book down. Amazing author.

Could have done without the James Smith and the Whitney Whoever characters. Otherwise, it was okay.

Another Breathtaking story by Chris Carter . Hooked up till the end. It has everything : Suspense, Thrill , Emotion.. everything. Could feel every character in the book. Couldn't stop turning the pages until it ended. Loved it!

Hunter and crew get involved in a case where the murderer stitches his victims lips and vaginas shut with cord after inserting various devices to ensure their demise after he leaves. Definitely not for the squeamish. A good story from this amazing story teller.

This was such a compulsive read - I could not stop turning the pages! The killer used such a brutal and sadistic method of killing his victims & I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It feels strange to say because of the blood & gore, but I found this book so easy to devour. The short chapters definitely help, but Chris Carter has a way of grabbing your attention from the get go & he doesn’t let go until you’ve finished the book. I’m really enjoying the partnership between Robert Hunter & Carlos Garcia - they make a great team. I’m looking forward to seeing what horrors they face next.

Auch im dritten Fall von Chris Carter sind die beiden Los Angeler Detectives Robert Hunter und Carlos Garcia wieder einem Serienmörder auf der Spur. Dieser kidnappt Künstlerinnen, deren Leichen dann einige Zeit später nackt und mit zugenähtem Mund sowie zugenähter Vagina gefunden werden. Damit aber nicht genug: Bevor er den Unterleib seiner Opfer zunäht, platziert der Mörder darin jeweils eine immer andere „Überraschung“. Beim ersten Opfer ist dies eine Bombe, die bei der Obduktion explodiert, dem zweiten Opfer wird eine ausgeklügelte Vorrichtung implantiert, die mich stark an den Leopoldsapfel aus Jo Nesbos „Leopard“ erinnerte und die ähnlich sadistisch wie der Leopolsapfel für einen besonders schrecklichen Tod des Opfers sorgt. Der Thriller ist wie immer bei Chris Carter aufgrund der schaurigen Mordmethoden relativ grausam und für zarte Gemüter daher nicht geeignet. Bereichernd fand ich die Figur der Privatermittlerin Whitney Myers, die parallel zu den beiden Detectives auf eigene Faust recherchiert, bis sich ihre Wege kreuzen. Chris Carter vergisst in seinem Thriller nicht zu zeigen, wie aufwändig und zeitraubend die tägliche Ermittlungsarbeit mit dem Verfolgen vieler kleiner Spuren ist. Die Auflösung ist schlüssig und das Ende sehr spannungsgeladen, wobei es mich - warum soll hier nicht verraten werden, um nicht die Spannung zu nehmen - stark an „Das Schweigen der Lämmer“ erinnerte. Für die Lektüre des Romans ist es nicht erforderlich, die beiden Vorgängerromane „The Cruzifix Ciller“ und „The Executioner“ gelesen zu haben. Nachdem mir der Fall im zweiten Band der Serie arg konstruiert erschien, habe ich zunächst gezögert, „The Night Stalker“ zu kaufen. Ich habe es dann aber nicht bereut, ihn zu lesen. Er ist von Anfang an unglaublich spannend erzählt und aufgrund der sehr stimmigen Auflösung vergebe ich fünf Sterne. Wegen des deutlich geringeren Preises für die englische Kindle-Version (hier gibt es anders als bei deutschsprachigen Büchern keine Buchpreisbindung) habe ich mir die Romane von Chris Carter im Original besorgt. Diese lassen sich - auch wegen der von Chris Carter häufig verwendeten direkten Rede - recht gut lesen, ohne dass man über perfekte Englisch-Kenntnisse verfügen muss.
