Best value player out there
I love this little player. I'm on my second one, as I wore the first one out. No fault of the manufacturer or any shade on the quality, though, as it endured heavy use over a period of years, and even got dropped a lot. I got my money's worth. The audio quality is good, too. Not awesome, but good enough, especially for the price (if you want awesome, get one of those digital Walkmans, and be prepared to pay). That's why I bought another. I may buy more as spares for the future, and it is inexpensive enough to do so, as I don't want to chance that it will one day be discontinued due to lack of demand. It's smart to invest in dedicated, optimized devices to spread out the risk and increase quality instead of having a potential single point of failure such as a smart phone where you try to make it do everything. You spread out the wear and tear and don't use up battery on your main device. Typically, anything that tries to do everything doesn't do any particular thing as well as something specifically engineered to do that task. Also, why run down your phone battery listening to music and running a data connection when a media player like this can be used, instead? MP3 and media players such as this are an endangered species because of the idiot consumer thinking that online or streaming is where it's at. It's not. They also think that their phone is all that they need. That's not true. There are trade-offs with everything, and no obsolute right or wrong answer. With streaming, it's convenient, and you have a massive library instantly available, but you use data requiring a connection and are completely dependent upon third parties to make the content available. What happens when your content is removed from a service (and it will) or you have DRM limitations imposed? With a physical media player, you can buy CDs, rip them as WAV files and then use both the CDs and the WAV files as backups. You can then use the WAV files to create MP3 files. No one can take those away. Sure, it's not as convenient, and there is more of an investment in time and money, but you have a higher quality and more robust, resilient library that won't go away without you wanting it to. If you really love music, and want to collect a library, this is the way to go. If you have WAV files backed up, you always have the highest quality digital files available to expert on higher bit rate formats for higher end media players, too, so it's upgrade, or future, proof.

Review for the SanDisk Clip Sport Plus Bluetooth 16GB MP3 player (Blue)
This review is for the SanDisk Clip Sport Plus Bluetooth 16GB MP3 player (Blue). I almost didn't buy this because there were so many negative reviews. The one and only reason I wanted a MP3 player is to play Audiobooks. I own a SanDisk Clip Sport Plus... purchased 3 years ago. I love it... but wanted to upgrade to a wireless Bluetooth... so I didn't have to have the Earbud wires hanging down and snagging on things while working. I received a Ruizu 8GB Portable Clip Bluetooth MP3 Player was purchased for me as a gift. I SENT THE RUIZU BACK... it did not play Audiobooks and I didn't like how you had to navigate back and forth to the Bluetooth screen to turn it on to get it to connect every time its turned on. So... I purchased a AGPTEK G15 16GB Bluetooth 4.0 MP3 Player, Wearable Clip. I also SENT this one BACK... although it did play Audiobooks from OverDrive and/or CD's ripped to MP3s... there was no main "Menu" button, so you had to keep pushing buttons to back out of your book and get to the Bluetooth screen to turn on the device, then navigate back to you book where you last left off. The other thing I did not like was that there was NO AUTO SAVE for books. You had to manually pause and navigate to a "Save" point in another menu screen. So if the player was on pause for more than 5 minutes, it Auto Shuts Off... and DOES NOT SAVE YOUR PLACE. Also it only allowed for up to "10 Saves points" before you have to start over writing other save points. After using my SanDisk Clip Sport Plus for the past 3 years... I was spoiled with the EASE of USE, especially after using 2 different MP3 players that were nothing like the SanDisk. So I decided to purchase and try out the new Bluetooth SanDisk MP3 player... what could I loose at this point... I have been using the SanDisk Bluetooth MP3 Player everyday since purchased on January 11, 2018. I really like it. It works just like the SanDisk Clip Sport Plus. It plays OverDrive Audiobooks just fine. Autosaves. It has a Main Menu Button. Easy to use. Once you set up the Bluetooth device... I have never had to navigate back to the Bluetooth menu screen. It remembers my device as soon as it is turned on. Turn the MP3 player on first, turn on the Bluetooth device. The Bluetooth icon on MP3 will light up in blue... letting you know you are connected. Push play... either on the MP3 player or your Bluetooth Ear device... (if you purchased one with Play/Pause like I did.) This MP3 Player is a little bigger than my Clip Sport Plus. The ON/OFF button is now the Front Middle Button instead of on the Top End of player. The Play/Pause button on the MP3 Player is a little stiffer... so you have to press it a little harder... (But THIS IS A WATER PROOF DEVICE... so the buttons are more of a thicker "Rubber" than "Plastic".) Over all... its the same player. It Auto Saves my place when I pause and/or it shuts down and seems to shut down fast when you push the Front Middle Button to turn it off. To turn on... your hold in the Front Middle button for about 7 seconds... same for the Bluetooth Ear device... hold for about 7 seconds to turn on. And yes... you can be listening to your Audiobook with your Bluetooth connected and still navigate the Menu buttons without pausing or stopping...if you need to make adjustment to something... like setting up a Sleep timer. I only mention this because of some of the reviews were saying you couldn't do this. I like this player well enough, that I am thinking about purchasing another one just to use at night when laying in bed. Also I would like to mention... I purchase a single Bluetooth Ear piece to use with this player while at work. So I could listen to my book and also hear if someone is talking to me. When someone is speaking to me... I just push Pause on the MP3 player or on my Ear piece... which ever one is more convenient at the time. If they are talking to me longer than say 10 minutes... my MP3 player will "Save" and shut down. The Bluetooth Ear device will tell me that "NO DEVICE IS CONNECTED." After another 5 minutes of not be connected to the MP3 player... the Bluetooth Ear piece will auto shut off. (I love this... because it does help to save on battery life.) SPECIAL NOTE: The Bluetooth Ear piece I purchased is very small... so it only has a 5 to 6 hours of battery life. I am at work for 8+ hours. So I purchase another Bluetooth Ear piece... the exact same one... so I conneted the 2nd Bluetooth Ear piece to the MP3 player... the same way as I did the first. So if you were to go to the Bluetooth Menu Screen... you would see the Ear device listed twice... (the 1st one and the 2nd one both with the same code number.) When I am listening to my Audiobook and the Bluetooth Ear piece tells me "Low Battery" I pause my book... Turn Off my Ear Piece... place it on its charger... I get the 2nd Bluetooth Ear piece thats already been charged and turn it on... it connects automaticly to the MP3 player (remember... its the exact same device/same code) so I put it in my ear and push Play on the player... and I am back to listening to my book. (Awesome!)

If you use Linux, look elsewhere, unless you have access to a windows or apple computer.
OK lets start with my biggest gripe. It will not work on Linux! As you can see in the screenshot, it appears in my disk utility, but not in my "devices" list. It should show up like an external drive, according to instructions, but nope. If you use Linux, look elsewhere for a player. That is, unless like me, you have access to the windows virus on a spare PC or laptop. That's what I did. I waded through the chest-deep crap and trash and the endless "update now!" and the Windows can not spy on you. log in to this spyware.." popup crap. I had to take music from my Linux machine, tranasfer it to a USB drive, then plug the drive into my windows-virused laptop and put the music on there. Only then, could I get music onto this player. What a pain in the rear! So hey WD/Sandisk, Just make the darn thing work with Linux, guys! It's a real thing, and it's not going away. Especially since even your servers, Amazons servers, even Microsofts and Apples servers all run... LINUX! Android is a version of Linux. So yeah, Sandisk, Linux is something you people should keep in mind with your devices. Your SD cards and USB drives work flawlessly in my Linux machine, Why did this player give me hell? A lesser gripe is that the screen on this player came pre-scratched. I took it from the original, still-sealed packaging, and it was scuffed up right on the screen. There was no screen protector film to peel off. A .001 cent piece of cling film plastic would have prevented this. However, that hardly obscures the screen when it is lit up, and does not affect any performance. It's just annoying that this happened. The last gripe, I promise. That is, there is some pre-loaded bloat. I don't need any audiobooks or lap timers and crap like that. I just want to play music. Period. But, that is the least of my gripes since Sandisk has kindly offered a setting to turn that junk off. Now for the good stuff: It works. Despite being forced to use the Macrohard Windurrs virus, to do it, I dragged a lump of random music into this thing. I just wanted to be done with that windows machine, fast, so I didn't bother to sort them. After ejecting the player and it initializing, it works fine. Sound is good via my KZ ZSN Pro IEM's (This is going to be a gift. I did not use the included buds) I was shocked to discover that the lump of music I dropped into this thing was all free lossless audio codec. Yes, FLAC! It plays flac files. NICE! The jumbled mess of content is all categorized into artis, album etc folder by the device. By "lump of music" and "jumbled mess" I mean about 8 compilation albums with various artists and such. It will sort them by artist or album if you wish, or it can just play the bulk. You can make playlists, but I'll leave that to the person who I am gifting this to. I'm only doing any of this since he has no access to a computer or anything other than cellphone internet. Otherwise, he's be setting it up himself. But I don't mind, so here I am. Which allows me to write a proper review. So to conclude: If you have windurrs or mack junk, you can use this no problem. But if you have Linux exclusively, You're gonna have a problem. (Get a Surfans F-20 D.A.P.. It doesn't care.) It works fine. You can turn off the bloatware. It plays fine, it sounds fine. (with flacs, have not tried it with lossy, MP3 files) I may update with further info about durability and longevity after I give this to my friend and he lets me know about that stuff.

Another Great SanDisk Product
I own an e260 (x2) and an e240. The e240 I still use. Fantastic product. But no bluetooth. I have rockbox installed on all of them. I wanted a SanDisk product that had bluetooth. That's this one. I did NOT pay attention to the fact that the hardware is different in this model and created issues that made it difficult/impossible to write a rockbox program for said model. I was bummed. (I adore rockbox) But I needed a bluetooth mp3 because I didn't want to use my phone as an mp3 player. Just no. So, my love of SanDisk products overrode my disappointment in that there was not a rockbox for this version. The sound quality is excellent, as well as the volume range. The controls are simple. The clip is sturdy, as is the unit itself. While it does not have an expansion port for a micro sd, 16GB is more than sufficient for my needs. It paired easily with my bluetooth headset, and I had no issues transferring files from PC to player. It charges relatively quickly and lasts a good while. The unit I purchased was the SanDisk SDMX28-016G-G46R Clip Sport Plus MP3 Player, 16GB (Red), and the item was true to colour. It arrived quickly and was packaged well. Very happy with my purchase, would recommend. I apologize for the number of times I said rockbox, I sound like a 10 year old who wants a fidget spinner. ugh.

Dead after 2 weeks
Updating my review to 1 Star. I have only used the device long enough to attempt to charge it twice. The second charge did not take and now the device will not even turn on. I tried the provided USB cable with other devices and it worked fine, so it is the device itself. I am returning for a full refund. For $50+ I expected a better quality product than this. The MP3 player is simple enough to operate and transfer music to. The sound quality is very good or that could be because of my name brand earbuds, but it sounds just fine. Battery life is good. I used it four days at an average time of 1 hour 30 mins per day and it was still charged. I only charged it because my headsets were down to 20%. I used it for two weeks before posting a review. The bluetooth connection to the wireless earbuds is the issue. I tried the provided earbud and my personal earbuds, same result. I tried it in the pocket of my running shorts first but the connection kept dropping (sounds like a skipping record or CD). Then I moved it to my hip using the clip, same thing. I thought maybe my smart watch bluetooth was interfering, so I turned off the bluetooth, but still the same. I eventually clipped the player up on the collar of my shirt and slid it over the collar bone. Only then, did the connection not drop. The less than 3 feet from my ears to my hip or even pocket should not be too far for the bluetooth to stay connected, but it was. The radio feature never worked and just kept scanning for a signal with a radio station less than 15 miles from my house!. For the money, it is an ok product but if you are an avid runner, I'd get something with a more reliable bluetooth connection. I gave it a 3 because of the bluetooth issues. I am not sure if the charging issue I encountered is a known problem or just the device I had was defective. Either way, it should have worked longer than 2 weeks.

Better Than Nothing
Depending on what you are doing, how you are going to use it, what patience you have to arrange things in a folder before you add the files to the player, this might be perfectly fine for you. It seems to hold a charge fine. The volume is good. I haven't tried the bluetooth, but the aux hookup works fine. It is a good size. The clip seems sturdy. I like the buttons instead of a touchscreen, so you don't have to stop what you are doing and look at the screen every time you want to change something. The only issue is that the software sucks. There is no option to select to automatically play the next folder, so it really can't be used for audiobooks unless you are the patient sort who is willing to go back in the menu and select the next folder. I could be patient, if that was the only flaw, but it isn't. It changes the names of all folders to "Unknown Artist", so to add to your patience, you also need to be attentive to what folder you were in to know what to select next. All of the solutions I have found online for fixing/working around the folder name issue do not work (ex. folder name is can't be longer than 28 characters, select MTP setting, etc.). Repeat is turned on, but it will not start playing the music in the folder again, so you can't even use it just to play an album and keep going. The playlists under music cannot be accessed through your computer, they have to be created and edited on the SanDisk so you can't just add something to a "GoList" and work around it that way. You have to start to play and then select each track to add it to the playlist. It then throws you back to the main music menu where you have to figure out the correct album and then the correct track to play to then add the next file to the playlist. See above problem with folder and file names to add to the frustration.

The 2010s are Back - But Smaller, and with More Storage
tl;dr: It works, it holds a lot of songs, sounds fine, pairs with Bluetooth. No complaints a week in to ownership. I found a lot to love in this little MP3 player. I'm not sure what these other reviewers are doing with their Bluetooth equipment, but mine worked fine right out of the box. PROS: 16 GB, in MP3 format, is a LOT of songs - like, over 3000. Bluetooth functional. Better storage management than the old days - distinct menus for music, books, and playlists Interface is very much like you remember CONS: Interface is very much like you remember. You know how you play a retro video game and you're like "Oh yeah, I remember that's how you used to have to push B for inventory ha ha ha so duuumb" because eventually a set of better practices emerged and the industry sort of standardized and now the old stuff feels counter-intuitive? It's kind of like that. Switching menus using the back button might take you back to the tier above where you are, OR it might take you back to the main menu. Which will it be? It is a mystery to discover. Bluetooth range is *VERY* Short. When I go running, I have to clip the thing to my arm or the collar of my shirt. It gets all glitchy if it's on my belt. Lightweight plastic feels pretty flimsy - that keeps the cost down, I'm sure, but I do worry about dropping it or banging it into something while exercising. So to recap: I really like this player for exercising & any other time I want to listen to music without my phone. It's not a super-high-end zero-loss 1000 dollar unit, but for the 30 bucks or whatever this cost? Totally worth it.

Positives - Bluetooth Connectivity ease and the option to Play Music from "Folders" menus
Use this exclusively to play mp3 at the gym with my Bluetooth Beats. As far as the Bluetooth, no issues syncing it. It remembers the pairing and auto connects every time I turn it on, and I have had no distance issues (although I rarely get more than 14' from my gym bag on which it is clipped. The obnoxious red color (yes, it's like a partially sun bleached off red-orange) keeps me from fumbling for it if it falls off of my bag straps. The included instructions are minimal at best. That said, my initial frustration over not seeing my music in tihe playlists, despiste using the recommended "drag and drop" method, was quickly resolved when I realized that I could play it from the "Folders" menu and not have to use the SanDisk Playlists menu at all. I haven't bothered to create any specific "Playlists", as you can achieve the same result by naming your folders and playing from there. I haven't actually kept track of the play time, but it's probably close to the claimed 20 hours. That said, at the start of a workout yesterday the battery indicator was at about 50%. Less than 70 minutes later, it promptly died. So there is no warning when it is about to die...I was accustomed to a "low battery" warning with my Ipod. The included charging cord is very short, but not a problem for me as I have too many spares laying around as it is.

Pretty good for an MP3 player.

Ottimo acquisto
