As perfect a trap as can be.
Works like a charm. No muss, no fuss. Rats took up residence in my garage just before we had a freeze here in FL. High living! Many of my plants were in there…gave them lots to eat. Everything they needed. But now I’m catching them with two traps per night. Four so far. I won’t re-use them…ick factor for me. (What can I say…I’m a female. The fact that I can bring myself to dispose of them is a big deal for me). Thankfully Amazon offers them for half of what they are at local Ace Hardware. One adult fought like heck, wouldn’t die, even with head stuck in trap. Nasty. I put them in large plastic painters’ pail and closed the lid. Out they go. Yeah, some money spent on traps and pails…but a whole lot less than using extermination service. Still need to have them “bomb” garage, though.

This Worked the first time and Everytime!
This is excellent so far. It was extremely easy to bait and set. The first night I put it out, it caught a big rat. I emptied it and put it out the night after that and woke up in the morning to see another rat. I just set it out again tonight and will see if it snag another one by tomorrow morning. I have had a lot of failures or hit or misses with other traps (some way more expensive and complicated). This is how I expect a product to work. Thanks to whoever designed this thing. Maybe now my kids can get their screened in patio to play on again with rats eating multiple holes in the screen to come poop and pee all over the patio!!

Overall, it’s an effective and reliable solution for dealing with a rodent problem
This rat trap worked much better than I expected. It was easy to set up, sturdy, and felt well-made compared to others I’ve tried. Within a short time, it successfully did its job, which gave me peace of mind. I also appreciate that it’s reusable and simple to clean. Overall, it’s an effective and reliable solution for dealing with a rodent problem.

Ok, I admit it, it's a better mouse trap.
Somehow I got a rat in my attic. I put a fancy electric rat trap up there to catch him as well as a couple wireless cameras to try and see how he was getting in (because I haven't had any rat trouble for years). A week later, noises in the attic still but nothing in the trap. Camera footage showed the rat going right up to the electronic trap but being to suspicious to go inside. Frustrated, I looked for an alternative - enter, the Tomcat. I placed a couple Tomcats in the attic and within 4 hours that rat was caught. Done! As others suggested, I connected the Tomcats to a little bailing wire and secured to nearby screws so the rat couldn't drag it off, and that worked fine. There's a bit of play on the trap's trigger paddle so if you're careful you can ease that paddle down a bit toward the release point and make a 'hair-trigger' out of it. Hold the trap securely open with your hands while you press the paddle and gauge where the paddle will snap the trap shut, then leave the paddle very close to that point and you have your hair trigger. Nothing fancy, no mods, that's what I did and it worked great - don't get your fingers snapped! its I found this trap to be very effective and would definitely buy again.

Catch rats, but doesn't always kill them
Easy to prep and load the trap, and is effective at catching them. But it doesn't always kill them instantly-- I've caught live ones about 50% of the time

Works!
Love it! The bait container is removable, making it easy to fill and clean. Set up is SO easy, and you can easily disarm it as well. Successful capture of a nuisance rat on day 2 of having this out.

Kill rats but, don’t work after a couple of kills
Had a rat problem and these work better than the electric ones or the wire ones, but, they don’t last very long. The mechanism that holds it open failed on half of them. Sometimes after a catch. Sometimes without a catch. I tried everything to get them to set again, but they are useless. It feels a little like the plastic has stretched or bent. I’m ordering more because they do the job, I just wish they were more durable

Really works!
I was afraid the rats were going to be too big for these. I purposely set one off on my counter, using a pencil, and I now have 2 pencils, and my ears were ringing. I'm now petrified of them going off by my fingers. Lol I had someone out to close up any openings they may have been getting in, so I don't know if they got all the openings, or if these were now trapped inside...if they were ever leaving, once they got in. I set 3 of these traps up and within a couple of hours, they had all done their job. Really gross having to empty them, but it's on me to handle things. I reset them and caught another one right away. I haven't gotten anymore in about 4 days, so I'm assuming that's it. At least I'm hoping. But, these do the job totally. I at least have one relief, that they really couldn't have suffered, it was so quick and decisive.

I live in a semi-rural area and have a problem with rats getting in the roof (and gnawing on electrical wiring) and under the house. Hitherto I've used bait stations, which certainly kills the rats, but they die in the roof or in the sub-floor and create a stink for a couple of weeks. After reviewing a couple of cheaper and similar design traps I settled on Tomcat — and they work a treat. I caught this specimen on the second night, adjacent to a hole where they were getting under the house. I'm happy to recommend Tomcat Rat Snap traps — a quality product that works.

I have used snap traps of various types for years with limited success. I have heard that rats can actually eat the bait on some without tripping the mechanism and also know what a trap looks like and actually can trigger the trap without getting caught. I can verify that as absolutely true as I use an infra red wildlife camera to see the routes the rats take and have seen rats "teasing" the trap. having seen the reviews I decided to try the Tomcat trap. In the first 3 nights I caught 4 rats. Unbelievably two rats were killed at the same time. Since then it has proved effective with more kills. I like the removeable bait holder as it can be cleaned easily and recharged. Also I think the matt plastic and more shell like construction makes it less conspicuous. Whatever it is proving to be a great product and worth spending that bit more on. Peanut butter is also the best bait I've used so far. I was told Nutella is good but that never worked very well. I tend to smear some peanut butter on things in the area of the trap which seems to also help entice the rats onto the trap. Thoroughly recommended !

Very powerful trap, snaps necks and kills quickly. Although less so if they get their legs caught, then you have to fetch the spade.

I was very impressed at how easy it was to set and I liked the fact that you could bait it without setting it off overall a very good and well made product, & i would certainly purchase again 😀 👍👍.
