Great for Understanding Science
I purchased this product for its experiments. The product itself arrived before his first day off from school which was great timing. The product itself is packaged very well. If you use it properly, you will never have any missing pieces because everything has its place. I planned an entire homeschooling day and used this as a supplement to the Science class. My son and I did the banana dna experiment...that was a lot of fun. It was great to see how we could extract the dna of a fruit by following the simple steps in the book. There are other experiments and of course the lessons on dna etc. This is definitely a great tool for helping anyone who is dna challenged understand how it works. I would recommend this for anyone who wants to have fun with Science.

This is a fantastic kit. I bought it for a smart (but not off the charts) 7 year old who had a heritage unit in school that included a talk about DNA in a non-scientific way and asked for a science kit for Christmas. I knew nothing about DNA, so I hemmed and hawed over a few kits. We did this kit together. She loved it and I loved it too. Start by making the model. By the time your child has put it together, she will know the names of the four the nitrogen bases (and no, I had no idea what that was before we started this kit), then do the replication exercise, then do the experiments in order. Everything builds on the exercise before it. All you need is some denatured alcohol, a piece of fruit, a coffee filter, this kit and Google. By the time you are finished, your kid (and you), won't be doing genetic research, but you will have a much better understanding of DNA.

Excellent kit
My 8 y.o. son is using this kit in his science enrichment class and he loves it. The activities are exciting and educational. The book has large clear pictures. A lot of excellent activities for something so affordable.

Good buy
I got this to use for some experiments with my daughter, some of the experiments worked as expected while some fell short. But overall, I will consider it a good buy.

Ok, but there are other teaching sets of better quality.
It is ok! It is good to teach the students, but the material is not of great quality. Also it has a kit to extract the DNA that once you use it, it is over... it is not something that you can use over and over again. The K'nex education DNA, replications and Transcription set is of better quality...

Not as advertised
My son wanted a science fair project. From description it sounded like you could test the DNA to see if fruit was male or female. This kit shows how to extract DNA but then that's it. Nothing on what to do with it or any kind of experiments with it. It was useless to us.

I loved it for a science filled afternoon.
This DNA experiment kit made my kids learn the fundamental of cells and made us have a fun filled science afternoon. It taught us the building blocks of DNA and how they formed together. I didn't realize such a difficult subject could be made fun for littles.
