Yes, that's just part of the game and how it works. The digimon live a certain number of days depending on a few factors and then they die and are reborn so you can raise them again. Every time they are reborn a certain percent of the stats are also transferred, so they become stronger each time. This is how you get different digimon, just by experimenting with stats and seeing where those routes take you. You get used to it! In theory you can make a digimon live forever by using certain items.

Does digimon story: cyber sleuth and digimon world: next order have anything to do with each other?

It's supposed been said to be a direct sequel of the first Digimon World game seeing it has the main character from it plus machinedramon as well.
