Excellent purchase. Expensive but I feel itโs worth it.
So easy to install. Took out a package. Just added the back panel, which required no screwing just sliding onto the middle base. Fits my fireplace absolutely perfectly. You barely see the back panel unless you are really down low and looking at it directly high-level. Very quiet as well. And the heat that it generates is pretty nice. Although I probably will not use the heat regularly. But definitely more efficient than using Duraflame logs, which basically were just for ambience and sucked hot air of the flu. Iโve tried multiple settings and like some of them. Although the remote isnโt that strong, you have to be right next to the unit to use it. And donโt really care for the form factor of the remote as they are a cheap type, versus buttons that actually are not part of the face plate. Wouldโve liked more flame options. This really just allows you to turn the flame off and on. But the logs allotted for brightness. But wouldโve definitely liked the flames to be able to increase speed, decrease speed and intensity levels. It was more expensive than some of the other brands, but this was definitely more realistic looking. The flame looks like itโs coming from in between the logs versus behind the logs. The logs are also more realistic than the other versions out there. Highly recommend. It seems much more realistic than any electric insert that Iโve seen. As it actually provides some depth in the fireplace versus the electric inserts. Even visiting the fireplace stores, the inserts that are actually pretty much television sets still look pretty fake to me, especially when they put full logs in front of them. This is really the best thing for your buck for sure. One more thing, when I close the glass on it, it is as realistic as it gets. Unless youโre really up close to it and looking at it. Iโll definitely enjoy the cost savings of not buying Duraflame logs during the winter.

Improve your quality of life - GREAT VALUE!
PROS: How many ways can you think of to improve the your quality of life instantly for about $220? This electric log set instantly added coziness to my new (budget) apartment built in 1980 and helped to aid in relaxation immediately post-move. It has a meditative quality to it. Now, I just canโt imagine if I had moved into this apartment without it. If you have some slight social anxiety (or like the typical jitters when meeting someone new or new-ish), this is nice to have as a focal point while sipping wine. (: With the heater โoff,โ electric inserts are considered safe to leave on (like just the lights/illusion part "on"). It is plug and play! Just put the mirrored plastic piece in its place, plug in, and youโre good to go! In my size fireplace, I had to situate the base in first and kinda finagled the plastic piece in after that. I was worried that it wouldnโt fit, but it ended up being perfect (top of arch extends a bit but does not make it look any less pretty). Overall, this is beautiful and as realistic as one may reasonably expect - for this price point and well on up. I still cannot believe the value! CONS: Although turning the side/backlights on (and to the flickering setting) helps to disguise the shine of the plastic piece (as will a screen - great if you have one built into your surround already), you can see a bit of a glare on the plastic (the part that makes the realistic looking โflameโ possible). However, this is not a major drawback as when the lights in your home are super dim or off at night (or even with just the TV on), you canโt really see the glare - especially with the side/backlight feature on. The remote could be more intuitive. For safety, I keep the instructions on the shelf with the remote. I may type up and laminate a simpler set of instructions on a card to keep with it. To avoid a panicked moment after youโve enjoyed your cozy evening with the heater on, READ the instructions beforehand. Finally, this product could be more accessible. If you are unable to hear the โbeeps,โ you may not know how you have just changed the settings via the remote. There could be changes made to add indicator lights to the side of the base and/or remote to fix this. This would make usage more intuitive for everyone right out of the box.

FLAMES LOOK SO REAL!
I chose this particular unit because the fire looked the most real. The colors of the flame are amazing & change constantly just like a real flame would do. It's never repetitive and looks just like a real fireplace. I also was looking for a simple base so I could create the look I wanted and control the size of the final visual. While our house was built with a gas log set-up, we didn't want to deal with gas nor pay for it. We wanted to look at a cozy fireplace on all the time without the expense of the gas bill. Besides, we don't need heat here in the South, so this set-up works great 24/7 at zero cost pretty much. The only negative I see (which I don't even ding it for) is the clear acrylic piece in the back (which is somewhat noticeable). We've bought these inserts for other homes we've owned and they all have it because that's how you get the authentic flame. It's a clear piece but you can sometimes see a reflection off of it. We actually tilted it a little and that helped in this house a lot. It will depend on your home, size, lighting, etc but nothing that would make me not want to buy it. It's how it functions. BASE & ADDING TO IT: Too many of these other fireplace inserts had these deluxe bases that were bulky & ugly. They also cost more. This model was definitely simple & exactly what I was looking for. Our home came with gas fireplace/logs we'd removed but saved them to utilize the logs to build upon. I started with a layer of lava rock in the bottom of the fireplace for a good base. Then I added some of those extra logs from the existing gas fireplace to make it look bigger & more authentic. An idea to consider.

Itโs a fake fire!
I havenโt been able to burn wood in my wood burning fireplace for the last couple of years due to the smell it caused in my house reeking havoc on my breathing and sinuses, so I went on the search for an alternative. Itโs a fake fire and I knew that it was my only solution going in so I didnโt expect much itโs pretty and better then an empty firebox. The blower does put out some heat but not sure it really does much to make the room warmer , itโs important to note that it is a double sided fireplace so I did not expect much. I will include a Picture. I did have to put up a black piece of cardboard behind the insert to make it look a little more realistic as the light shining from the other room , the opposite side of the fireplace , made it pretty obvious it was fake. It helped. So far itโs the best alternative we could find and we like it but itโs not a real fire! The plus side is, itโs easy to remove if we want to burn real wood again so itโs a win win for me!

Great ambiance at the press of a button!
I live in an older house with a wood-burning fireplace but I donโt want the hassle, smokiness, and mess of burning wood so I decided to buy some electric logs to use when I wanted the mood of a fire. I knew going in that whatever I bought wouldnโt look exactly like a real fire but I hoped to find something that didnโt look totally cheap and cheesy and Iโm very pleased with this log set. To get the โbadโ out of the way first - the heater is weak. Definitely buy this for the look, not the heat. My living room is average-sized and in checking with a thermometer, running it on high for two hours didnโt raise the room temperature at all. My favorite seat is about 8 feet away and I couldnโt even tell the heater was on. You only feel heat if youโre within a couple of feet of it. My cats like to lay in front of it. Also, the plastic reflector piece is as obvious in bright light as other reviewers have said. My first photo shows the logs running in daylight with the curtains open on a picture window on the wall thatโs left of the fireplace wall. (I darkened the edge of the shield before installation.) While I donโt love how obvious it is in bright light, Iโm so pleased with the effect in dim light (when Iโm more likely to use it) that the trade-off is worth it to me. Now for the good stuff. The โfireโ looks wonderful at night or with the curtains closed. (See the video.) Itโs soothing and subtle and while Iโm sure there must be a pattern to the โflamesโ it isnโt at all obvious. In dim light, the flame pattern reflects faintly on the fireplace liner bricks as well as the reflective shield, adding to the effect. There are three different flame settings and I think the fire looks most natural on the lowest setting but all are good. The remote I received works perfectly and the controls are logical. The only assembly necessary was inserting the reflective shield into the slots and the logs were ready to use. There was no weird smell to anything. Overall, Iโm very pleased that I bought this log set. If it lasts a few years, it will have been well worth the money to me. NOTE: I didnโt buy the ember mat attachment thatโs available for these logs. I was on the fence about its appearance and at the time I bought the logs, the price of the ember mat was $80, which I think is insanely expensive for what reviewers have said is basically some molded styrofoam-like material with a few LED lights, so I created my own โember bedโ with some fire pit rocks and battery-powered LEDs, both purchased on Amazon. The cost was about half that of the ember mat. If anyone likes how it looks (see second photo and video), hereโs what I did - I bought a strand of orange, battery powered, LED โfairy lightsโ for $7 and a 10 pound bag of โMarigold Glowโ fire pit rock, which is a mix of black lava rocks and heat-safe orange and amber glass, for $34. I arranged them in front of the logs and TaDa!...embers! And since the lights have their own battery pack, I can use the logs with or without them, depending on what effect I want.

Natural Looking, Warm Electric Fireplace Log Insert
Bought this as a holiday gift for my daughter who has a fireplace but doesn't want to burn logs. The logs and flames actually looks so real and keep the room warm. She really likes it! It fit right into her existing fireplace! We were careful to measure first to ensure it fit. She put it all together herself, so assembly was easy.

Good looks, questionable construction and support
The Dimplex Revillusion RLG20 comes fully assembled, except for the plastic screen on which the flames are projected. Installing the semicircular screen required only bending it slightly to fit the slots between the logs. The screen simply rests in the slots, held in place by the tension of the bend rather than snapping in. This turns out to be a good thing if the unit requires any maintenance or needs to be moved. The instructions warn not to lift the unit by the front legs or by the logs, both of which are fairly flimsy. The unit turns on by either a small, infrared remote, or by disguised buttons on the right front leg of the unit. There are adjustment buttons for turning the flames and a rear projecting light on/off and for turning on and adjusting the output of the built-in heater. The flames are fairly realistic, though they are tall in relation to the small size of the logs. The heater is not powerful, but was definitely enough to increase the warmth of our living room two degrees (12'x20') after a half hour of use on its low setting. The unit is noiseless when just running the flames, and the heater fan is very quiet; we could not hear it at all over normal conversation. The first time we turned the heater on, however, the fan did not work, and the unit began putting out smoke. The instruction booklet states to call the Dimplex customer service number and not the company selling the product. I followed the instructions and spent 20 minutes on hold. The representative asked me to go through a short check list to ensure that the fan really wasn't turning on, and then announced that they would be sending me another heater/fan unit. I asked how easy that would be to install, and she replied, "If you are the least bit handy, it won't be any problem at all." The new heater/fan assembly arrived in 5 days via FedEx, but was not easy to install. It involved 21 screws and 8 wiring connections, including two wire nuts. There were no instructions, and the wires are not labeled in a way that indicates where they should go. All of this must be done while protecting the front legs and the logs from damage. The wire connector posts on the circuit board are not strong, and I ended up breaking one and having to solder it back to the board. If you have trouble with the unit, I suggest telling them that you are not the least bit handy and insist on shipping the unit back to them to repair themselves.
