They’re optimized for 24/7 operation, with high endurance ratings that far exceed those of typical consumer NVMe SSDs. Setup was seamless—the QNAP recognized them instantly, and I had my RAID 1 volume up and running without a hitch.I’m currently using the SSD volume for QTS system files and apps, and the performance improvement has been significant. The NAS is much more responsive, apps load quickly, and everything feels snappier compared to using traditional HDDs alone.Thermals have been great too, especially with the addition of low-profile heatsinks (I used the MHQJRH M.2 2280 model, which fit perfectly in the QNAP). There’s been no sign of thermal throttling, even under sustained activity.Down the road, I plan to add a third SN700 and migrate the array to RAID 5, which will give me more usable space while still maintaining redundancy. By not filling them up to 100%, I've found that the SSDs maintain optimal performance and longevity. This prevents potential slowdowns that can occur when drives are fully saturated.Installation was straightforward, and the drives were immediately recognized by the Synology system. I needed 2 nmve drives to run in RAID 1 in a small appliance that runs some Docker containers and other purposes 24/7. So far they have been running for months without a hiccup. They are fast enough for my needs and are large enough for more of the services I plan on self hosting.

Contradictory quality because I bought two pieces and put in my Synology Nas for cashing. 6 months later one of the blades died.

I purchased 2 of the 500GB for my Synology 920+ running DSM7Easy tool-less installation.Decided to use only ONE of them in READ mode for my Calibre and Plex libraries as well as Docker images. Noticeably faster load up of art work which is important for the Media room experience. Movies will not see any speed boost - as why would they? But the artwork loading is quick and very noticeable once cached.Synology WILL complain when you set up the Cache as there are no WD products in the Synology "compatibility" chart. Don't now if this is due to a failed business agreement or whatever, however it will work.I have 15TB of storage, and the Single 500GB NVMe SSD is more than enough. I will likely move the other one to another NAS, or into my computer. i likely could have gotten away with a 256GB NVMe SSD but room to grow is always good.Please note that the Synology Read/Write cache mirror set up has caused some people grief in the past, so please do your own research on this before doing it. Personally I don't feel the need.

Bought in 2023. Now failing per SMART with only 17% disk usage., 14k hours, and 339 TB written on 2 TB drive, still well within its expected lifespan and not what I expect from a WD Red NAS rated drive. Going through the RMA process with Sandisk (WD redirects to sandisk now?). It's been a nightmare. Website doesn't work. Chat agents are not helpful. They have inconvenient hours. I'll update this review with details of the RMA process as I proceed through it. The price for this has gone from $250 to over $650 now on Amazon. Ridiculous. A significant upgrade for your Synology 923+ NAS. During install the system DID recognize that it wasn't Synology brand NVMe however it didn't impact setup at all.One important tip, SSDs perform best when they're not full. It's recommended you set it up to use only 80-90% of the full capacity. So even though you're buying 1TB, consider allocating only 800 GB to the volume. This should increase SSD lifespan, help maintain consistent performance and is best practice for 24/7 systems like NAS.
