Alfie Gets in First

A family favorite book..adorable story from a child’s point of view, and beautiful illustrations. Endearing, familiar characters who reappear in different stories. Wonderful to read aloud.

I loved this little book. Such a cute story that I can read to our Littles. Shows problem solving. Charming illustrations. Alfie books are a must for childhood!

My kids adored this book and now it’s my grandson’s favorite, too. Toddlers love the beautiful illustrations and funny relatable story.

My kid really enjoys this story. It kept her attention the entire time. And I love how well thought out the illustrations are... the left and right pages show the outside and inside of the house. Very cute! One of my favorite children books.

I've loved this book since I was a tiny toddler and, as an adult, I introduce every child I can to Alfie and Annie Rose and Shirley Hughes. I've never come across a child who did not adore her books! The simply story lines are so relatable to children and the beautiful illustrations just draw them into the story. The books are well-written and not at all tiring to read for an adult, as so many children's books are.

Awesome book! Our grandchildren, aged 6 and 3, love it as did our daughter when she was little. In fact, all of Shirley Hughes' books were favorites!

I have enjoyed reading this book to my 5 month old grandson. Extended family enjoyed the story and the illustrations.

One of Shirley Hughes wonderful books for children. My son loved her books and now my grandson will soon be old enough to enjoy this book.

Obwohl mein Sohn kaum Englisch kann mit seinen fünf Jahren, liebt er das Buch. Die Geschichte ist rührend erzählt und die Zeichnungen sind mit Liebe zum Detail ausgearbeitet.

絵を見ただけで、話の内容が分かるのが優れた絵本（だと思う）。絵本なのだから当たり前のようだけど、コレが探してもなかなかみつからないのよね。 文章が比較的長いので、読み聞かせるために少し練習をする必要があるかも（テープつきがオススメ）。 話の内容は、ドアに鍵がかかっちゃって、外で呼び掛ける大人たちも小さなAlfieも鍵を開けられない。さあどうやって切りぬけるか･･･。小さな子供にありがちなシチュエーション。おそらく2-3才の子供はAlfieになりきって話を聴くと思う。 長く楽しめる本もモチロンよい。でも、その時期にしか感じられない本もある。2-3才のお子さんには「今が旬」の本ですよー！

Alfie Gets in First is a delightful story that children from toddler age up will appreciate. The enthusiasm of the child and the helpfulness of the adults (even if they can't really help) is so true to life. A difficult situation is sorted out and ends up in a shared tea. what could be better? This is vintage Shirley Hughes!

The book has caught my three year old son's imagination. He keeps pulling this out from our book collection and have it read to him very often. My son likes the detailed illustration and has noticed minute things like a cat running away during the pandemonium. He likes how Alfie opened the door using a chair. The story line is interesting and the matching illustration makes it perfect company for children. Highly recommended.

A little story beginning middle end - a pleasure for adults to read to little people ! A story about coping, overcoming and being brave after a mistake . Part of v early childhood learning how to navigate the basics of life - but beautifully simply done … And the Illustrations are so detailed - they tell the story themselves.. My grandson (3 plus) loved it - so him! Rushing into everything and then the consequences ! But all works out so well in the end - of course ! :)
