Dunlop Big Stubby Picks, 3.0mm

I really like them they sound great takes a minute to get a feel for them but once you get it they have a great tone and feel

I've used these picks now for 20 years. Why, you may ask, would I want to use this behemoth of a pick ? Here's why: 1. Speed - When your pick has a more rounded edge, it can glide over the strings easier hence less feedback from the string to keep your hand from moving. When needing to play a very fast run, I'll turn the pick at a 45 degree angle from the strings to get extremely fast motion. 2. Accuracy - I know many players that love medium-thickness picks that have some play in them. I'm not one of those players. I prefer a pick to control the string exactly as it should and not need to bend the pick to get a pluck. These picks won't bend at all and you control the strings instead of waiting for the pick to bend and pluck. This also helps when picking in varying dynamics of songs. 3. Tone - With a pick this thick, you can do crazy stuff with the tone of your sound. You may think that with a pick this thick, I must be into jazz or mello music, but this if far from true. I'm a rocker and love how I can get a hard core pluck or just barely touch the string and sound like a hammer-on/pull-off even though I'm picking. The range of sound and tone with this pick is awesome which seems to be left out of most equations in guitar tone. It's beyond me how some guitarists love using a medium or thin pick,but on soft sections of songs they have to use their fingers instead of a pick because of the difficulty in getting a soft pluck with thin picks. In the parts when I need a lot of pluck, these picks disappoint either. They can do it all. 4. Grip - I rarely drop these picks because of their size and easy grip. Also, the grip is makes control fantastic. There is a downfall of these picks to me - price. They're so thick that they'll cost more than the standard picks, but they're still not out of range on prices so this is so minor I don't even think about it. Conclusion - If you're using a heavy pick now (1.0mm or thicker) you may want to try these. I gradually went up on pick size years ago going from 1.0mm to 1.5mm, then to the Big Stubby 2.0 before finally using the 3.0mm in the span of about 2 months. I've never looked back since then and hate using thinner picks now. I always have one of these picks in my pocket just in case of a spontaneous jam breaking out somewhere (which happens a lot in my circle of friends), plus since these picks boggle the mind of most guitarists, no one ever steals my picks. For me, these picks are a necessity, not a novelty. I dare you to try these for a while and see what you think.

These are my kids favorite picks. My kids play guitar and base. They both like the stiffness of this very thick pick. We have a drawer full of picks but they asked for another bag of these! My husband’s now taking lessons and I see he is choosing the same pick from the bunch. Very pleased with this purchase. We have had the picks for over 2 years. The edges don’t frey; they don’t seem to ever snap in half. We only need more cuz the guys keep losing them and washing them in pockets. Really holding up well. Many of the thin picks used to Frey after a few months of use but these are tough!

Im going to be going over just about EVERYTHING about these picks. That way; you can buy with confidence. The feel: These picks are 3.0 and obviously this means they are far from flexible. They are incredible for amazing speeds and comfort. They curve in the middle for a great feel and grip for amazing speeds. However they seem to slip out of your hands VERY easily. Not a problem if your a bass player. Guitar players may struggle to keep the pick in hands at all times. The sound: These give off a SMOOTH and THICK tone with a delicate cut for metal sound. The sound is almost extremely obvious that your using a pick. Some people say "These picks are great if you want a tone as that of your fingers." They lied. Stubby picks at 3.0 thick give a plastic sound to your strings. I personally like this for acoustic guitars. I decided to try it on my bass (I use fingers only, but in order for this review; I gave it a shot.) I noticed that the sound for the bass is pretty thick. Real thick. Close as finger tone. The looks: Its pretty small compared to my Jim Dunlop X-H Gel Picks. Its perfect regardless. Overall AMAZING Picks. If you like your picks nice and heavy - These are the way to go. With high speeds and durability, you cant go wrong. They slip quite easily however.

Easy to grip, Good tone, Real groovy

Great pick for shredding. I used to use the 2mm dunlops. Did not like the texture at first, but it was just something to get used to. Now I love them, perfect grip, good thickness. Shredders choice.

The pics are comfortable to hold and the attack sounds good. They seem like they will last a long time because the grip is good dropping them doesn't seem like it would happen very often, if at all. Very good. 🎸👍

Je les utilise depuis des années, tout le monde n'aime pas mais là c'est moi qui joue, pas le médiator. Il tient bien en main même quand on transpire (bon il ne faut le tenir quand même !). Bien qu'il soit extrêmement dur je ne casse quasiment jamais de cordes. Son seul défaut est qu'il s'use assez rapidement (je pense qu'il faut le changer après 300 à 400 heures d'utilisation environ car il s'arrondit, on peut le limer un peu pour refaire le pointu et le faire durer encore un peu...)

These picks are just a boon for guitarists.! The precision, accuracy and great harmonics that they provide is perfect.. The grip is amazing.. Using the Standard Tortex since past years.. and shifting to this.. feels great.. Must go for it.!! Keep on Pickin'
