3rd month review
Figured I would wait a few months to do a review on this bird. Yes, the cat loved it since day 1, but would it last? The answer is yes. Three months later the bird is still in great shape, still chirping, and fur hasn’t begun to degrade or fall off. This bird is perfect choice to buy for your cat. Yes, the price does seem a little steep for a toy that was probably assembled for 20 cents, but if it’s a long lasting toy “that gets played with on the daily”, then the price seems to fade to the background. The sound effects isn’t as annoying as most electronic toys either. The only issue I have found with this bird is the feathers that are attached to the head and tail will shed off. The one I bought still has a couple feathers left, but I have found a few plucked red feathers around that have fallen off. I am not sure why this red bird has a cheaper price point than the other colors available. However, the red seems to be good enough for my cat. I highly doubt it’s upset that I didn’t purchase the more expensive bird with green colors. Haha. Plus, when my cat watches real birds out the window, it tends to get even more excited when it spots cardinals in the yard. So the question is “would I buy another one?” ....Definitely! …….((UPDATE))——-> almost 2 years later now. And yes this bird is still chirping away. Can’t believe the battery is still working on it, but it is still going strong. Cats still dig it and still play with it all the time. Just figured I would come back and leave an update on this thing. I guess that explains the price. Now I know it was worth it. …..Another ((UPDATE))—->another year later! Aug.2024= I hadn’t thought about, remembered, or even seen this toy in many months. While sitting and watching tv lastnight I kept hearing some weird “chirp” noise. Not puzzled enough to care about what it was I just ignored it. Almost an hour gos by and I begin to hear the chirping again. Ok, what the h3II is it? As I’m about to get up to look around, I see my cat dart by with this bird toy in its mouth. Now listen, this thing looks beat up now. No feathers left, gnarly looking red fur more reminiscent of “Mange”, and the chirp sounds more like a …*zzhurp’, way less energetic than it use to be. But…. It’s still alive, and my cats are still hunting it down. So I just figured another edit to this review wouldn’t hurt to let everyone know it’s still cardinal season in my house. …(And another update now in may of 2026)= once again, this bird had been M.I.A. For a long time, once again forgotten about. And out of the blue about 2 weeks ago I seen this red object tumble across the floor from under my bed. I guess the cats had pulled this out of their hidden toy storage I have never been able to find. They must have thought it was time to brush up on the old cardinal hunting. After a few swats of them kicking it around, I noticed I wasn’t hearing any of the electronic sounds anymore. Well, it was obvious those batteries was finally cooked after all these years, and to be quite honest, I’m surprised they lasted as long as they did. But I wasn’t going to just give up on this old bird. No. I decided to do a bit of surgery on this and replace those batteries. Now this thing isn’t really designed for repair or battery replacement, though I did get the “squawk box”? Out of it pretty easily, though popping that thing apart turned into a real headache, because once opened up, all these little parts just kinda started falling out. Luckily I got a good quick glance at what everything looked like inside before it began to fall apart. Mentally storing that vision in my head for later, I checked out the battery type so I would know what to order (LR41 button cell) batteries. Easy enough I spotted a big 10 pack of them on Amazon for about 5 bones. That’s fine, cause at this point, it’s now became a project. One might consider it a waste as it’s “repair item vs replace item” has veered into equal monetary expenditure , and not accounting for my own time used. However, I’m sticking to the plan. Got my batteries in the mail pretty quickly and began the reassembly process. It wasn’t fun. Even though this works on a digital design, at also has a mechanical element to it. It’s able to chirp because when it gets tapped, it causes a very thin metal strip to bounce on one end ‘like a diving board’. That metal strip flex’s up and down. Now when that metal strip flex’s down, it causes a connection of 2 circuits and “chirp-chirp”. So it’s the jostling of the toy that causes the vibrating force to shock that metal down into position causing the electronics to kick in. Easy enough said, but trying to get that all back into position like a frail puzzle, and stay there while I added the batteries and snapped it all back together was a whole new story. Feeling a bit defeated, I needed a dinner break. Just some cool off time to come back with a calm level head. Nothing short of an hour later I was back at it. I’m now adding glues where there isn’t supposed to be trying to keep all those plastic parts in position. Holding down electronics with one finger while (flipping it the bird) with the other. Hahaha. I even had to put a sharper bend on that metal flex piece. But once I finally got it back together for the 20th time, it was actually better than when it was new. The slightest tap or movement now will kick this thing on. Before it took a bit more of an aggressive knock, but now it’s chirping with the lightest cat paw touch. This could mean I will be replacing batteries sooner next time, but I’m still calling this a win. Even though this no longer even looks like a cardinal or anything close to what it use to, and now more like a dirty red blob with disgusting flaps, I’m sure the cats will be happy to see it back and working again. Just thought an update on this old thing now years later might be interesting. You never know, you might eventually see a 10 year anniversary review. Lol

Best toys I've found for my picky cats.
My cats are incredibly picky about their toys, I've bought ones with motors and lights, or springs or wall mounts, and several different kinds like this in different animal likenesses and they refused to play with them but they've gone through a dozen of these in 3ish years. That isn't to say they are cheaply made either, they just abuse the toys that much. They'll rip the feathers off first and eventually even tear the chirp box out. They love playing with them and show off by walking around the house screaming while carrying them in their mouths. The birds are small, light, and soft so when they throw them around it doesn't damage anything and they aren't loud at all which is better than the annoyingly loud ones that can be heard throughout the house. Plus they're cheap for the amount of time they are getting out of them. They rarely get lost too since my cats enjoy leaving them in my bed, chair and shoes.

Cat approved
Probably the best $6.99 I’ve ever spent. I had to add something to get overnight shipping. My cat absolutely loves this toy. We have a family of cardinals that live outside our house that she watches every day on our bird feeder. I think she thinks she’s getting her revenge on them.

They’re pretty cool.
My friends Cats play with them every so often. But they seem like they like the toy. The idea of the sound when hitting them is kind of cool but they should be a more realistic sound. That’s why it got 4 stars

A good toy that chirps!
This is a cute chirping wand toy in a good size! My cats love batting it around. The feathers didn’t last long and the chirper is still working! The chirp itself could get annoying if you were working or something like that, but well worth it for how much the cats love it.

I thought this bird was cute. He chirps. But my cat doesn’t care for it.

Keeps cat entertained
One of my kitties favorite toys. It gets thrown around, bunny kicked and abused and has held up for it all. Cats will play with it for an extended period of time and lets them hunt and burn off some energy.

baby sitting a friends cat...
Bought this as a gift for an older cat that I look after once in a while. She's never played with anything other than a ribbon on a string for several years and gets bored quickly . I set this on the floor and as soon as she left her carrier she went straight for it ! The catnip inside was probably what got her to head over to it but she started batting it around right away and even goes a little crazy when she plays with it now. It takes her a while to stop playing with it so she's not finding it boring . The 'squeaking sound is not annoying and not too loud . Nothing has come off this little bird yet and she's been pulverizing it for a few days now . I would recommend this cat toy to any one for it's quality , price and the fact that it has got a lazy older cat to play again !

to be expected after 2 years so was delighted to find they we're still available
I purchased my first one a couple if years ago and one of my cats loves it and plays with it daily, it has survived being taken out in the garden and left in the rain during this time. Recently I thought the battery was dying inside it, to be expected after 2 years so was delighted to find they we're still available. I've had to hide the new one as he found it and ran off with it still on the cardboard! The old one still lives on currently!
