Basically a 'Best of CCR' double-disc set, with live bonus disc
CCR has been repackaged so many times as to be considered ludicrous at this point. Chronicles one and two stand as the best of the best, but Ultimate (2012) runs a close second. Discs One and Two (20 songs each) cover the meat and potatoes of the story with smash hit singles a- and b- sides galore, along with memorable deep cuts and covers. Sticklers for historical fact will be disappointed with the play list in that it is more random than chronological. Still, it's the real thing, and it all sounds great. Disc Three is a bit of a problem. Twelve live cuts, none of which rival the studio originals, and the sound is not up to the usual CCR standard. In addition, most of these live versions were recorded post-Tom Fogerty exit from the band, and the trio arrangements sound a bit thin. The price is pretty reasonable for a two-CD set, so the third disc is basically a CCR live-in-concert bonus. All in all, I'm glad to have this one in my collection. Definitely recommended.
