Perfect for Haddock/Cod
One Gripe: sometimes it feels too difficult to push the wire down the spinal cord after braining the fish (it bends going through the hole meaning the fish is waiting while for you spike it properly to shut off its motherboard while you improperly try to jam a wire down its back) but as I have learned **spike downward into the brain first to shut the brain off quick. Watch for the eyes of the fish to flash and change. Then "crunch" and angle it from down to parallel to the tail. You do this by almost giving it a second spike (pull out only slightly from initial downward jab) now you should be pointing back toward the tail after repositioning the hollow spike for wire insertion...the process is better this way (double jabbing it before wire insertion) and you can tell you are doing it right when the wire goes easily through the spine (after repositioning the second jab) and the fish should shake and shimmy then go limp if you're doing the wire insertion correctly. If there's any resistance whatsoever when you start to push the wire through... you're doing it wrong! and need to re spike at the right angle backward (just imagine the wire going in a direct line from the back of the head down to the top part of the tail fin) Those who say the wire isn't strong enough haven't mastered the technique, trust. I honestly believe the tool is perfect and anyone's issues have to do with finesse and commitment to learning this art form that isnt for everyone but should be. I'm buying another one for posterity and to look "cool" on the boat and because learning the technique sort of means you have to ruin the first one if you don't have guidance. I would say you need to put at least 20 fish to sleep on two or more occasions to truly get the feel for it and appreciate it for all the very true beneficial reasons it exists. Solid, niche product for the most serious fisherman and the product makes filets stay completely fresh in the fridge for two weeks. No joke. It also makes a crappy fish like a pollock taste halfway decent. Like magic.

Should work on big catfish. Well made.
It is made with decent build quality. Certainly sharp. I haven’t used this one yet but it looks perfect.

Decent product
Works as it should for the price, the shinkei jime wire is dull and could use sharpened.

Wire not for big fish
The insertion tool does a good job on big fish the wire is long enough but not strong enough . Snapped first time I used it on striped bass

Poor quality
They are kinda poor quality. I tried to use it on a yellow tuna, and they’re way too small. Also, the plastic is very bad. It will be cool to have a version of these with more premium materials.

Fishing must have
I Ike jime all kept fish now. The quality of the fish is unbelievably good. You can taste and feel the difference. I use mainly on speckled trout and redfish.
