Works well without spending hundreds of dollars
This is the perfect tool to use in your house to check and make sure there aren’t any leaking pipes or rainwater getting in to your house. Heavy rains can drive water into the walls and sometimes sinks and toilets a leak and you’re not aware of it. Just lay this thing against the wall against the floor around your cabinets and you’ll know if it’s wet Underneath

Pins are bad and display is not backlit.
The pinless function works fine however the pins continually lose contact. I have to constantly retighten the pins but they are not reliable. I can now only use it as a pinless meter. Also, because the display is not backlit, it is very difficult to read. I use this meter in Crawlspaces and attics quite frequently. Not happy with it’s performance.

Man was I disappointed in this moisture meter.
This is one of those "you get what you pay for" products. I used it 3 times and the 3rd time it only reads 0% no matter in what mode it is set for. Changed battery stiil reads 0% even on a wet piece of drywall. I called customer support and low and behold they too said the unit was defective after doing all the tests for them over the phone and they told me it was still under warranty. Then If i take off work, drive to the UPS store, wait in line, pay to have packaged, shipped back to somewhere in the north east, wait a week to 10 days, they will look at it and confirm it really is not working, they would maybe ship a new one. If you add up your loss of work time, gas, wait in line time, phone time discussing what the unit was not doing (working) pay for boxing and shipping you are way ahead to through it in the trash and explain to other potential buyers what unit not to get. Good luck if you try to SAVE MONEY and buy this. This is one of the great lessons of life where you learn not to buy twice. David C Imhoff

The Extech MO55: A Moisture Detective’s Best Friend – D & D Approved! 🔍💧✅
If Sherlock Holmes were a home inspector, he’d carry the Extech MO55 in his pocket like a magnifying glass for moisture mysteries! This little gadget is like a truth serum for damp drywall, stubborn subfloors, and sneaky wooden beams that think they can hide moisture from us. Think again, fellas! As a backup for D & D Home Inspection Services, the MO55 has been a rockstar—quick, reliable, and precise! Whether we’re using the pin mode for those deep investigations or the pinless mode for a less invasive check, it delivers the facts fast. The audible alert is an absolute bonus—it basically shouts, 'Hey! Something’s fishy here!' (or should I say… damp?). Lightweight, easy to use, and built to handle the rough-and-tumble world of home inspections, this meter has already proven its worth. If moisture had a lawyer, it would hate this device. Highly recommend for pros and homeowners alike—D & D gives it a solid ✅!

Reliable and just works well
I don’t like the on/off button as it easily gets bumped and will turn on when you don’t want to. The depth on the pinless mode seems really good. I like that I can set it down on a flat surface and then back up and take a picture without having to hold onto it like I do with protimeter. Unit has been durable and reliable. It would be nice if they added an accessory jack. Overall good value. I’ve bought several now.

Here’s the perfect case
It’s small and fits perfectly inside a “GLCON Vertical-Stripe Hard Drive Case for Western Digital WD Elements My Passport/Samsung T9 Portable/Seagate Portable 1TB 2TB 4TB - Shockproof External Hard Drive Travel Carrying Case” Currently the brown striped case (which looks like a piece of wood) is $7. You’re welcome. I’ll review the device later.

Very useful tool in checking for hidden excess dampness in buildings and materials without leaving any marks or surface puncture damage. Quick to use with options for either surface testing pins or non damaging deeper embedded moisture and also choice of wood or general building material. Works well with wood, blocks, concrete, plaster ect. Even locates damp areas behind 'foil backed' plasterboard. Have found it can gives a false positive sometimes with some natural building stones, but this can be checked against known dry sample. Readings should be treated as indicative of relative dampness, which it is good at, although as with all these meters a digital reading calibration function would have been useful. Easy to use, clear large display. Good value. Highly recommended.
