The directions aren't great, but if you're mechanically inclined it's not difficult to figure out. At first it was a bit noisy, but once I cranked down the bolts with loctite it seems pretty sturdy. One of the reasons I bought it is the u-lock holster, but the lock bangs around too much and is very noisy. Otherwise a fine basket. Especially appreciate the solid net that it comes with. Review: Not quite worth it - I got this basket to install on the rear of my bike for my daily 12-mile roundtrip commute in SF. Sure, the installation instructions made no sense and seemed to be missing steps, but I managed to figure it out with some intuition and the help of a friendly dude from the neighborhood bike shop. On the first couple rides, it was amazing. Biking home with my backpack and a week's worth of delivery dinners in my basket and nothing on my back — a whole new life! And then by the end of the first week, the basket started falling apart. The plastic parts on the mounts broke off, so it can't really stand upright on its own anymore. The bolts on the eyelets and the captive bolts on the upper supports started coming loose every 2–3 miles, and the basket started collapsing into my wheel. I was able to use it for another week or so by carrying around an allen wrench and tightening it up every couple miles, but today it finally bit the dust and I biked half of my commute holding it up behind me... I'll admit, it's possible it fell apart because I installed it wrong, but the instructions give you barely anything to work with, so you're not exactly set up for success. I'm going to try to ziptie it back together before I ride home, but chances are it'll end up in the dumpster and my backpack will return to my back. A waste of $70.

The Perfect Rack!
This basket-rack is just perfect. Blackburn has thought of everything in terms of installing it on your bike. - The thought that they put into making sure this basket-rack can be installed to as many different frames as possible is very impressive. - I needed a good rack and basket for my bike. I've been searching for a couple of months and most of the racks I've seen can only be installed one way: either by built-in frame mounting points or P-clamps. Plus, you'd need to be aware of any clearance issues: height and width. - But this Blackburn basket-rack's width and height can be adjusted. This covers the plethora of different frames out there. - For mounting options: 1) It can be mounted on bikes with different kinds of brakes: disc brakes, cantilever brakes, etc. This will fit whatever kind of brakes you have on your bike. - 2) It can be mounted different ways: using the built-on mounting points on your frame, using the axle option (you'd need a longer QR skewer; not included), or, if your frame does not have mounting points, then use the included set of P-clamps! - The options for installing this to as many kind of bikes as possible just blew me away! - After installing it and making sure all bolts are snug and tight, I tried shaking the whole thing with my hands. It's VERY sturdy. - One more awesome feature I love about the basket is the built-in holder for my U-lock! Then I won't have to put my U-lock in my bag. And it'll be easier to get. - Another great feature of this is you can install it either as a rear or front basket! I've never come across any other rack that gives you this feature. - When doing research on this, I saw on YouTube they have a similar rack but without the basket. So that's another option for other if they don't want/need the basket -- as the basket is not detachable. - After installing, I had to contact support for some help and they were able to get back to me quickly. Kudos to the support team, too. - Overall, I'm really happy with this rack. From now on Blackburn racks will be my first choice if/when I need another rack or basket in the future.

I've owned two of these racks. Now I use them both for basement shelving.
I really do want to like this rack. Each one lasted two years with occasional, moderate hauling within weight limits. Both sheered at the same place each time: the right-side welded join as pictured. It's tricky to mount, for sure (especially on the front), requiring patience and, more than likely, a longer QR axle rod. Frankly, the whole thing is a beast-- heavy, noisy-- but that would all be worth it if the thing would just hold together. The engineering is clumsy and the materials, especially for the weight, are comparatively fragile. It has a built-in bottle opener, which I was always afraid to use for fear of bending or even tearing the metal over time. I think a reasonable price for this online would be $40. At that price, at least you'd know what you were getting yourself into.

Large, sturdy, looks great.
Got for my SO b/c she wanted a basket on her bike and I refuse to allow her to crap up her rad looking ride w one of those fugly wire/wicker looking baskets from Walmart. This thing is LARGE, really large. That said, it's great. I mounted it on the back (lol) but it can be put on front or back, it comes w all the parts you need, even if your bike doesn't have studs. It is sturdy AF, I'm not sure what it's rated at but you could easily fit two bags of groceries in it, or a couple cases of beer. It comes w a net to ensure whatever you put in doesn't fly out when you roll over bumps. It also has a spot to mount a light, and a little caddy spot for a ulock. I wrapped the ulock caddy w an inner tube so the lock doesn't clank around, but that's not needed. Blackburn makes yet another solid product.

Sturdy, solid, and quiet
I got this rack for my longer rides to school (5 miles), so I could take my bag off of my back. It has proven SO useful. The install was a bear, you'll want to have somebody to help you out, but that may well be the case for any frame-mounted bike rack. Make sure you use a good allen key, or be ready to replace some bolts (everything can be bought at Home Depot, or McMaster-Carr if it runs out). I even asked Blackburn about one of the bolts for the lower frame-mount assembly, and they got back to me with the sizing, so that's great customer service, and I didn't even buy it from them. The semester I'm writing this saw me bringing a 22x28 artists portfolio I can bungee cord to the top of the rack, over my backpack even, and it's secure. My only caveat is if you have a Cygolite Hot Shot, get their chainstay mount, and mount it to a vertical wire on the rear of the bike. the "light mount" flat spot may hold for a metal holder, but my old hotshot dropped off on a rainy day, but you can fold the shim that would be included with chainstay mount and make it hold on to the rack solid.

Nice Rack
I love this rack, came with all the hardware I needed, a silicone strap the hold down my U-lock and a cargo net. I didn't get the quick release skewer shown in the photos, but I made it work with the hardware provided. This thing is pretty adjustable and I think it should fit almost any bike with little to no modification. I have a internal hub and so I had to grind a little off the lower mount to clear my hub connector, actually kind of a lot to grind off, but it looks awesome. With the grinding to make a custom fit, it took me less than a hour to install, I could have installed this on my wife's bike in 15 minutes or less, her bike has mounts in better locations for an easier install. I am very happy with this rack, very sturdy and definitely can hold more weight than 55 pounds. So happy I might red loctite this rack in place, that's a joke, do not red loctite this.

100% garbage, do not buy.
This lasted a grand total of three grocery trips before a weld snapped. Unfortunately, I took so long to get around to putting it on my bike, I missed the return window. Lighting $75 on fire would have at least been kind of entertaining. The rack felt sturdy enough, though in retrospect there were several red flags about the build quality as I was installing it. The paint flaked off every time it brushed anything hard, and a misaligned weld somewhere made installing the legs on one side almost impossible. To brace it front to back you tighten screws against rods that bolt to your seat stays, doing this put a hole clear through these soft aluminum rods. When loaded with any weight at all, nothing stops it from shaking side-to-side, making your bike wobble whenever you're taking off (took me a few rides to figure out what was going on there). Due to the low rails the cargo volume is disappointing, and because they're wide open you also need some kind of container to go IN the basket if you're planning on carrying anything smaller than a grapefruit. The lock holder is a nice idea, but it let my lock rattle and bang against the rack so much I ended up not using it. But anyway, one of the brackets you use to attach it at the bottom just snapped off its leg (see broken weld in pic) after just three relatively small (see disappointing cargo volume) trips to the grocery store. If this had happened while I was riding in traffic, the leg would have swung down into my disc or my spokes, and I might not be alive to give this worthless trash one star. Avoid this thing as if your life depended on it.

Cheap crap
Over priced, mass-produced crap. Instructions are mere line drawings with no real indication of how to go about assembling ccorrectly (you just need to deduce whats possible from the parts) Broke upon very gentle installation. Worth $3 AUD - Not a cent more.

Great basket, wish it was lighter.
Love it but wish it was made from lighter material such as alluminium.
