Works great
Works. Been using this on my sewer pipe for the past four years to keep the roots off. Before that, I used to call the plumber yearly.

EXCELLENT ROOT KILLER!!
Living in an older (1954) home comes with its perks and disadvantages. One disadvantage is long established trees and their root systems. Some trees and bushes will seek out any water source they can find; including sewer lines. After one instance of a several hundred $$$ for a plumber to clear roots out of the sewer line, I did research and found copper sulfate. Using about two cups of the large or extra large crystals in the main line once a month, I have never called the plumber again. . .20 years now. There are a couple of instances where roots have started to come up in the yard; growing new trees, UGH! Just dug out around the area enough to pour dissolved copper sulfate (1/2 cup copper sulfate in four cups water. . .takes a couple of days to fully dissolve), around the exposed root and POOF, a few days will render it dead. . .never to be seen again, WooHoo!

It works, but be careful because technically it's toxic
I have a water fountain/feature of about 100 gallons that was plagued with algae. I used a three-pronged approach to tackle it. 1) I put a small handful of these crystals in the fountain. 2) I scrubbed the algae off the large rocks using a brass brush. 2) I put a small barley straw bale into the fountain. After about a week, all of the algae was gone. I'm hoping that the barley straw will keep it away from now on. My only concern is that copper sulfate is technically toxic. Fortunately, during the winter there aren't that many wild animals about, and they don't drink much from the fountain anyway. I do wonder whether the copper sulfate just circulates over and over through the fountain, since it doesn't evaporate and I don't think it gets absorbed by the rocks. So maybe the lever of copper sulfate will stay the same forever in the fountain. Anyway, I now have 9.9 pounds of copper sulfate left, and I hope I will never need to use any more.

Cheaper Than Locally...
I ordered this after we got our septic tank pumped, Our neighbor's tree was growing roots into our yard and my septic guy mentioned copper sulfate. I went to a big box store and it was nearly 20 USD for two pounds but the dosage is 2 pounds per 300 gallons of tank. Our tank is 1000 gallons so I'd have to spend over 60 dollars for this prevention!. Instead I looked on Amazon and stumbled on Copper Sulfate Large Crystals 10lb Bag 99% Pure. They arrived to me in two days and the first thing I do with products sold by weight? Weigh them. I was pleasantly surprised that the weight was correct. Now, what I did was add five pounds to a small bucket, I opened the cap to my septic tank closest to my drain field (our tank had plastic capped standoffs installed the last time our septic tank was serviced so no digging and no heavy lifting), and dumped it in to the empty tank. As the water fills the second half of the tank, the solution will be carried out to the drain field and protect our lines from any damage. The remaining five pounds is placed in a sealable bucket and I will add it to the tank in six months. At that time, I will add 1/2 a cup by toilet and flushing because the tank will probably have liquid in it and I don't want to fall in! No matter what you need this stuff for, I am sure it will meet your needs.

Used for Pond
Every Spring when your Pond “turns over” and all the gunk comes to the top, I wait for it to rain a few days continuously and throw these in to sink the stuff. Doesn’t harm the fish or wildlife. I only do 1/2 the pond at a time bc it robs the pond of oxygen in the area I throw it. That way the fish have plenty of room to move to the other area, unharmed. Country ppl have used this method for YEARS. Works Great!

Root killer
I use this once a month in my basement drains. I haven’t had any flood problems in my basement since I’ve been using this product. For anyone who has problems with drain water backing up in your drains and flooding your basement, this is the Answer, I didn’t have to dig completely around my basement and replace my tiles, this product kills ROOTS and that was my and probably your problem. Use this product once a month or more and you will be fine!
