Great switch box for mixed network usage

I purchased this in August 2022 in order to begin moving my home network past its gigabit limits.I am running a 10Gbps Intel X540 in my NAS and PC so utilising the two 10Gbps ports on the switch I can easily top out this connection without breaking a sweat. I have upgraded other devices such as my Intel NUC and older NAS with 2.5Gbps USB NICs and again can maximise out these connections with file transfers.Other reviews have mentioned regular crashing – I have not experienced this. As of writing in the 6 months of use the switch has only been turned once off due to a power cut, not a single crash in that time. So I suspect it may have been a bad batch of switches.Overall highly rate this switch works great and useful if you only have a couple of devices required 10Gbps.

Fantastic value 10Gbps network connectivity

Very good quality construction, very solid in the hand. Such good value for money, at this price you're getting 2 x 10Gbps ports (RJ45 network cables required - recommend Cat7) and 4 x 2.5Gbps ports. Simply plug and play.

Had a fault with mine but qnap support were brilliant.

I bought this for the eventual upgrade of my small home network to 2.5Gbit. it was right in the price range I was looking for (i.e as cheap as possible) and the 10Gbit sfp+ ports are a spot on addon for my NAS (the Qnap TS-431KX). using a Direct attached copper cable for that made a great, respectable priced upgrade.Firstly the unit itself is a small box about the size of an a5 sheet of paper in overall dimensions and about 1.5 inches tall so fits nicely in the setup I have, which is a small bookcase that has my virgin media superhub, NAS, USB hard drive, 950VA APC UPS and Pfsense router. It would have been nice to have the option to have VLANs and QOS but this is very much a device just to get faster ports for your devices so isn't designed for the more advanced options like VLANs and Aggregation, which would have been handy but the pfsense box I have can make up the gap for me.Secondly for anyone thinking about using this with a direct attached copper cable like I am, be aware that sometimes devices like this are brand locked. I don't suspect that Qnap would do something like this with the switch itself, especially as i got the cheapest 10Gbit DAC cable i could find and it works with my nas and this switch with no issues but if you're planning to use it with a device like a network card from hp or mellanox (which i believe is now nvidia) you may have issues with that device depending on what cable you use.other than that the device itself isn't all that special, it's just a bog standard network switch with some extra bits. Now the elephant in the room, Support.I can't complain about the support I recieved from qnap, pretty much as soon as I sent a ticket within their support system an RMA was issued for me to send the device to them. Obviously this goes without saying that it's useful to fully document everything, I understand how difficult it is to provide support to people who just say "it doesn't work" so explaining why probably helped with an RMA raised. In my case port 6 on my switch didn't work properly and wouldn't auto negotiate, being stuck at 100Mbits. this was quite a deal breaker for me as port 6 was the last port I had free and was the port I used for my pfsense router and my 500Mbits Virgin package. so was a massive bottleneck. for a while I thought I did something wrong, that somehow the equipment i was using was somehow not working correctly or that maybe I had a fautly cable but I was able to rule that out with a process of elimination. Now the RMA process for Qnap takes about 10 working days, so quite a delay when you're keen to get things working though they were very good, the site itself is a bit of a pain to use but when you submit the ticket they will reply to you within a day usually so if you give them all the information they'll get the RMA raised ASAP so you can send the device to them. In my case the device was clearly faulty and they replaced it outright. it would have been good for it not to take as long but for me that's not a big deal.if you need something basic, this is a fine device and will serve you well, just be aware that it's nothing overly special and qnap support can take a while.Personally for me, it's still a spot on device but if you're looking at something with more features, vlan support and it's not all that much more expensive, i would go for that because obviously vlan support and management is a consideration and if it's not that much more expensive, you may be better served by that device overall.TL;DR, 8/10, Basic but that's what it's for, it's a network switch :).

Just plug and play

I wanted a fast ethernet connection to my QNAP NAS, and this was the best option for me with two 10Gbe and 4 2.5Gbe ports. With a 10Gbe adapter in my PC and NAS I now have fast data transfer, and the rest of my network is ready for 2.5Gb connections.Don't expect this to improve your internet browsing experience at home, as that is limited to the speed you pay your supplier for!

Worth it

I bought 2 of these just over a month ago, and they've both been working perfectly, not requiring a single restart since purchase. They don't get that hot either unlike 2.5G switches from competing brands. Very good value for money at ~£150 considering you also get 10G ports.

Neat Little Switch - Unfortunately Unreliable

The switch functioned correctly initially but like others have stated, it unfortunately began to lock up would not pass network traffic. This occurred on both the 10GbE and 2.5GbE ports, resulting in my Internet access being lost and overnight NAS to Cloud backups failing. This was only temporarily resolved by power-cycling the switch...essentially rendering the device unusable.I did contact QNAP and raised a support case, they basically stated I should return the device to Amazon under warranty - highly frustrating as I need the network bandwith the 10GbE offers, so now need to source an alternative.

Dose exsatly what I wanted

Would be nice to have a managed one but then they cost a bomb. This switch works Grate and come with a good selection of ports e.g. 2x 10Gbps.Works well with my HP enterprise switch.

Don’t waste your money

Router was fine for 4 months. Then it just stopped working altogether. Router was just n well ventilated place and I look after all my things. Tried turning off and on and using different ports it simply did not work again. Luckily Amazon accepted a return so I can get my money back but be warned these units have their issues which is a shame as it had such great potential. Roll on the days all routers are 10GB / 100GB and the prices come down and you have more of a choice to consider other makes and models.
