It's certainly plain enough to be unisex -- especially if it was black or dark brown.

Will a nice size wallet fit in the bag?

Most definitely; there is more room in this bag than I imagined. Pictures are better than words. If I were to carry my wallet ( which is a wristlet) here is my wallet and it fits in the bag. And there would still be room for small items. However I use the slots for my cards and a small zipper case for cash. I need room for my widemouth Swell bottle.
