Great study text for the New-Bee as well as the experienced beek.
Excellent study for new-bees and veterans alike, written in common English and easy to understand. Each section is well illustrated with color photos. I studied this book when I checked out a copy from the NEOBA Club library last year, and found myself referring back to it on my hive construction projects. I just had to have my own copy to refer to so I could write in the margins and doodle my thoughts inside. One of these days this book will become a treasured heirloom. Get one of your own.

Very comprehensive, but one-sided
For conventional (Langstroth, and using treatments) beekeeping, this has got to be the most comprehensive modern book out there. There are many informative charts, tables, and illustrations, and plenty of information on bee biology that they don't always get to in beginner beekeeping classes. There is also information on how to remedy problems with laying workers, queenlessness, and other physical issues that may come up. That said, it's not for the strictly organic beekeeper. There is little to no information on organic practices, which is why it only gets 4 stars. The authors talk mostly about chemical treatments for mites and diseases, which many are beginning to feel has created resistance in the very things the treatments are supposed to cure. A well-organized book, and I'd keep it for it's biological information.

Great for all regardless of experience!
This is a great book that has loads of content. Anyone from a beginner to an expert can pick this book up and learn. I'm just a beginner or a hobbyist as they are called and yet this book isn't anything over my head nor is it hard to read. It covers all topics under the bee (a little humor). This will be an invaluable reference guide for me in my beekeeping endeavors.

Very Informative
This book goes way above what I thought it would! After reading all I could about raising bees online I felt very dissatisfied with what I had learned. I've read about a quarter of this book so far and it has blown me away with information! I especially love all the diagrams that show step by step instructions on how to do things like preparing bees for harvesting honey. It also goes very in depth about bees themselves and their diseases and treatments. I am extremely satisfied with this product and definately reccomend! For those interested, this book is on the State of Texas Agrilife website and suggested reading material for beekeeping.
