Great for automating where there is no neutral
Installed just like normal Shelly's except for not needing a neutral wire. Many home light switches don't run both to the switch, so this is perfect. I have one in a 4 way switch setup and one in a 3 way switch setup and working perfectly with home assistant.

Great product for older homes without a neutral wire.
Easy install. One of the four items purchased did not work but both the seller & Amazon customer support were prompt to address the issue. Good and cheaper alternative for older homes without a neutral wire. Works flawlessly if the light is over 20W. Works well with google home.

Difficult to install
Design was intended for European houses using stranded copper wire. Using solid copper in US us bar is prone to break if to much pressure is applied. For example when attempting to place in junction box and push the wires back into the box. If you can get it installed without breaking it, it works great with there app.

Automate a fan
I hooked it up to the ceiling fan that had no neutral wire at the switch. Did the job. Was recognized quickly by the app and home assistant.

Doesn't work well with solid wire or low wattage LED bulbs
I used this for a basement lighting scenario. Had about 8 LED bulbs, some that were 7 watts a piece and some that were 14 watts a piece. My total load was about 180 watts. Upon connecting up as recommended by the diagrams, the bulbs that were 7 watts were flickering quickly, while the others were fine. When the device was turned off, the 7 watt bulbs were dimly lit. Looking at their support it looks like some people fixed this by putting in higher wattage or different bulbs. Kind of dumb to have to replace my light bulbs to make this work. Also, if you're hooking this up to solid core wire, don't bother. You'll break or strip the little screws off the hold-downs, or as you're trying to fit it in the electrical box, you'll break the connector all together. For 14 or 12 AWG wire, I didn't feel confident that I was getting a good connection under these tiny screws. Not sure how or if these are even UL listed just for that fact. Their market is primarily European, so not sure if all the wiring over there is stranded or something. These might work well in some sort of other DIY aspect, but for retrofitting lights to be smart, find something else.

Faulty Devices - May or may not get one that works
I have purchased (4) shelly 1L relays over the last month. The first two that arrived worked great once installed (not very difficult but to need to have a pretty empty box, do NOT overtighten the screws, they will strip out as another reviewer mentioned). A week later, I purchased an additional (2) Shelly 1Ls for another room - not a great experience this time: Once connected to the mains & switch - when you press the light switch to turn on the lights, the relay quickly clicks on and off, with a quick flash of light from the fixture. The Shellys emit the wifi network used for setup and will connect to the app, but will still not function properly (just flashes the light when switch is pressed). At this point - I have tried every conceivable troubleshooting method I can think of - added a shelly bypass (even though I didn't need it, fixture is 41W), no effect, verified 120V from the mains, tried every possible combination of wires into the terminals, tapped the relay on the side (which would open the relay and turn the light on, but once you press the switch again, it goes back to only flashing when pressed). I have even pulled a neutral wire into the box, still no change, relay just clicks on and off when switch is pressed. Amazon was quick to send a replacement set of 1Ls, but both of the replacement 1Ls showed the same behavior as the prior. For what it's worth - the (2) shellys that worked properly came packaged in (1) box containing two shellys. The (4) shellys that did not work came individually packaged in their own boxes. That is the only distinguishing factor between the ones that work and the ones that are defective. There is no solution found on the internet regarding this behavior. Absolute crapshoot to whether or not you will get one that works! My advice - avoid this product like the plague! If you do not have a neutral wire, save yourself the headache and go with the Lutron Caseta system, it is very pricey but works PERFECTLY and is super easy to install. I have heard good things about Kasa switches as well. It is a shame you cannot count on receiving a reliable 1L, the features of this relay are very cool (which I bought them to be able to use in detach mode for other devices).
