Illuminated Letters Sketchbook (Interactive Journal, Notebook)

This book provides beautifully detailed illuminated letters. Each letter starts with a vivid, full color, final letter in the upper left quadrant. Then paired down step-by-step progressions ending with a blank quad for me to draw. See uploaded photos. All pages are grid paper to help with proportions. There are sidebar details of the fine features. Most letters have two variations. This is appropriate for tweens, teens, and adults. If you buy it for a kid, they need to be very detail focused to enjoy this book. Just beautiful!

This little treasure is helping me perfect some letters in paintings we call Word Illuminations. Beautifully illustrated and taught, it also has quality paper to render practice letters and carry combined media applications.

I've never had use for gold ink or watercolor before, now I do! This book eases into lettering by following examples. Then offers outlines to create your own designs. Before I'm finished with one, I'm thinking ahead...pine trees and birds for F. Unfortunately I have horrible penmanship to write "C" - louds drift top the waves. So just filling a watercolor notebook with abc's.

I think others have pointed out that this is a learning text, meant to inspire and teach. The problem I have is that it is so small. The book contains practice pages and step by step instructions but it is hard to draw in the book because each page is divided into 4 areas for you to try your hand at drawing. That means the the drawing area is only about 3 x 4-inches. This is very hard to work with because you are also hampered by the book's thickness. I can't draw with my hand not fully on the page.

Beautiful illustrations with easy directions! Makes me feel like a scribe in a monastery except I listen to Metallica instead of Gregorian chanting while I sketch…….

I bought this book for myself and then decided to do a fun project with my 13 and 16 year old grandchildren. I traced blank letters that were the first initial of their names (mine, too!). Then we picked from the many beautiful and in some cases- whimsical drawings to fill in and around the initial with gel pens. We had fun, they looked nice- well his and mine looked nice. My granddaughter has talent and hers looked beautiful. A partial list of the 'fill-ins' for the letters are- castle, dragon, fairy, vines and leaves, flowers, cat/mouse stand-off (adorable), a pirate ship, butterflies, Celtics knots, sun and moon and pretty flourishes or lines and designs. There are more as well. I know one reviewer said it was nothing but blank pages and nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, there are blank, grid pages after each letter to try your hand at copying the letter (the entire alphabet are in the book). But in between are other drawings to enhance your initial to make it a unique picture. All I can say is I enjoyed the book and so did my grandkids. I always try to come up with a project to do when I fly up to visit. This book was certainly worth the 2-3 hours that we sat and created pictures and memories.

Great for putting my initial on thank you notes or bookmarks. I love to do lettering and this is perfect
