Mate 10 Pro (Single-SIM) 128GB Android 8.0 UK version SIM-Free Smartphone -Titanium Grey

Have had the Mate 10 Pro for a couple of months and really like it. I am a very experienced smartphone user (just adding that as a lot of reviews for phones on Amazon are often by very clueless people) and have had numerous Android phones, and I upgraded from a Samsung S7 Edge. It has a nice 6" screen, but because of the small bezels it doesn't feel large in the hands or pocket at all. The cameras (colour and B&W) are really good, I am an experienced photographer with good cameras and lenses, and normally hate phone cameras, but this is the first phone I have owned where I will use it when out and about and not have to carry a camera with me all the time. The low light pictures are frankly amazing for a phone. Battery life is excellent, I can easily go a day on a charge, and it recharges to full in less than an hour using the supplied USB-C charger. It comes with minimal extra apps installed over standard Android. I can't speak much about the UI for the homescreen as I always use Nova Launcher, but the settings menus are well laid out and have a lot of useful features. Performance of the phone is very good, and the 6GB of RAM helps a lot. Phone comes with screen protector applied in the box, and also a transparent protection case. Downsides: This is the first USB-C device I have owned, and it has no headphone jack. It does have a USB-C to headphone jack dongle which does the job. It has a pair of earphones bundles in, but while the sound quality was pretty decent, they don't stay in my ears at all, they are very poorly shaped with no rubber cover to help them stay in. It has no MicroSD slot, but with 128GB of internal storage that isn't an issue for me. Overall it is a fantastic phone that performs like a flagship model but costs less than half the price. Is a real bargain IMO.

After buying a Huawei tablet (MediaPad M3 10 lit, 5*) and loving the build quality I decided to make my next phone Huawei. Decided on the Mate 10 Pro coz it had no notch and a 96hr battery rating on GSM Arena. What can I say? Awesome. Very good looks, solid build and it does have that great battery. The Emui skin is not too intrusive but I always put Nova Launcher on for my own customisation. It comes with a clear case, screen protector applied, fast charge brick and some USB-C earphones (and a 3.5mm to USB-C for normal earphones you may want to use). The screen is great. The new 18:9 ratio that most phones seem to have means it's taller but narrower, easier on the pocket. It does have some strong power saving modes as default but you can soon sort out which ones to turn off. The battery life is really good. After a full, first charge, it took me 8hrs setting it up, with screen full brightness to run it down. Very impressive. After a few days with it being used normally, it easily gets through a day. Sometimes with 60% still left! The audio is another strong point. Using some hi res earphones I get some good, clear audio. I mostly use Spotify at very high quality. I did notice it doesn't like third party equalisers, preferring it's own, very customisable app. Using its own external speakers the phone uses a downward firing port for the lows while the earpiece handles the treble. However, switch to landscape mode, for video viewing and the two speakers then also split the audio to stereo too. Very good idea. The camera is very good, plenty of modes, though to be honest, I don't use it that often. A few stills, when out with friends etc but they look crystal clear. 6gb of ram is more than enough to handle the four constant widgets I have on my home screen and still show no signs of lag. As this model has been superceded by the Mate 20 and P20 models, it's now over half the price it was a year ago. Also, although it's a year old, it still has Android 8 so still pretty much up to date, software wise. It's a great phone, that battery is phenomenal. Very happy with this purchase.

Delivery was on time, no problems there. Phone was in absolutely amazing condition, even came with all cables that was needed (I thought It was only coming with a charger but came with a type C dongle and even phone protector) Phone looks amazing, cameras are very good, screen quality is great for a 1080p+ screen but there's problems (honestly they seem to be software on Huawei's side). Battery is awful imo, it's get beaten by a Samsung galaxy s7 edge and a xiaomi redmi note 5 pro, both having better battery even though it should be the other way round with the s7 edge having a much older, less energy efficienct cpu, smaller battery and higher res screen. From what it looks like it's when it's asleep/screen off that it uses more power which would mean exynos and snapdragon have far better power efficient cpu's. (I do hours of research looking at everything right and wrong with a device before I purchase and this should have best battery of the 3). Software with face recognition and using gestures to navigate is frustrating half of the time for me. Sometimes it does what you want perfectly and fluid as hell, mostly it's repeating actions which shouldn't happen, an example is using the back gesture, sometimes you need to do the gesture multiple time for it to work which it should be 1st time 90% of the time. (again a redmi note 5 pro at under £200 new was a lot more fluid to use with less hiccups). Settings options and layout is way worse than that of Samsung and xiaomi aswell (in my opinion), had to go back and forth and sit there thinking about how to find a certain setting for it not to be on the device (again had the settings on other android devices that are older and cheaper). So delivery was great, physically the phone is amazing and looks great, amazing camera and screen is amazing, speakers are very good aswell but for me the interface and Huawei emui ( Huawei take on android) is just below par for and needs work to sort the software side of things (again it could just be my preference on how a phone should work/how I use my phone). Overall happy with purchase and happy with the seller, on time and phone is in top quality specially for 2nd hand phone. (again my expectation was a little higher because this is still meant to be a higher end phone, specially higher end than the other 2 devices I stated).

This is a great phone. It's very fast, has a great screen, more than adequate RAM, great quality sound and a fabulous camera. It looks good too. I use this phone as my personal phone (as distinct from a work phone), and get two days and "to spare" from the battery. I was leaning towards buying the OnePlus 6 which has a more powerful processor and larger RAM, but inferior battery and camera. After looking at dozens of reviews of both phones and factoring in the 45% price reduction of the Huawei on Amazon I couldn't justify the extra €150 for the OnePlus 6. As a result I have a flagship phone which really gives flagship performance for the price of a mid-range phone. I don't have the slightest regret about my choice. In reading reviews one of the consistent criticisms of Huawei devices I found is of Huawei's proprietary skin for Android. I have not found this criticism to be justified and would go so far as to say that I find the "floating dock" to be extremely useful and unobtrusive. I'm not over the moon about their launcher but downloading the Nova Launcher - a free app, simple to set up and use - from Google Play fixes that and combined with the floating dock gives a very efficient user experience. This is of course a personal taste issue. I just want to encourage people who may be hesitating about Huawei because of the reviews of their "skin", not to be put off. The millions of faithful Huawei customers must be some indicator that it "ain't bad!". All in all this is a great phone.

UPDATE: These have serious bluetooth problems. Bluetooth seems to keep cutting out, meaning choppy streaming in multiple apps (spotify, podcasts, audiobooks, other connectivity problems with non-audio bluetooth devices), despite lots of bandwidth. If you care about bluetooth at all, avoid these. I'm having to update WAY before this phone should be out of date, just for the bluetooth issues. Rated 1 star accordingly. WARNING: these phones CANNOT be rooted. Huawei used to force everyone to get an unlock code to do this, but now they've stopped even giving out the codes. A good buy, for autumn 2018, fast, recent android features, etc. The IR controller and half-decent sound quality are likeable. Screen isn't bad; not a top-of-the-line resolution, but bigger than some phones which makes up for that, and still 400+ PPI (better than a laser-printed document, which is only about 300 PPI). The HDR (far more shades of color, basically) is nice to have, especially for photos and to match modern desktops monitors. Much better battery life than Samsungs (which required losing NFC functionality to add a battery case). Or, so I'm told -- have yet to really put the 4000mah battery to the test over a day of real use. The NPU is REALLY nice to have. It's probably helping to speed up the fingerprint unlock (which is INSTANT), and helps with photo taking and speech recognition. NPUs are the future, already 50x faster than the main CPU for some tasks, and the android update (8.1) that's coming soon will take more advantage of it, so it's just nice to have one of the first phones on the market (one of the others being iPhone X) that's on that cutting edge :) There are no hardware navigation buttons on this; it's all screen on the front: just volume and power buttons on one side. I don't like the fingerprint sensor position either: it's in the camera area, compromising for both left and right handed users, but that just makes it awkward for ALL users. The hardware button on the front that doubles as a fingerprint sensor works better. That said, you get used to it fast enough. NOTE: The used model I got from this page had O2 software on it, despite claiming to be unlocked (it did work on my network -- giffgaff -- but it seems like it's been hacked to do that, rather than really being an unlocked phone). Apart from those niggles, it's pretty decent. And while it does have that stupid slippery case design that all phone manufacturers are doing, they at least supply a case. The case is horrible -- very plasticy looking, but will stop you from dropping the phone on the first day or two, until you can get a better case.
