Nice mouse, works on Linux too; the Bluetooth standard is problematic
This is a nice mouse. I never thought I'd say that, because a mouse is a mouse. But this one just works. It connects easily, stays connected, and tracks well on almost any surface. The tracking and scrolling speeds are just right without adjustment, and the buttons and wheel feel just right. No problems with Bluetooth. The box says it works with Linux too, although I didn't test it. You can't go wrong. Just buy it. UPDATE: It works fine with Linux; the mouse is still excellent, but Bluetooth is problematic. Read the update below. The directions are very brief, very easy to follow, and are printed on the inside of the package. To set it up, it takes a couple of minutes to "pair" it to the computer. You just press a button on the mouse and acknowledge it on the computer, and you're done. I got it for a Win 10 laptop/tablet, and the USB-C ports are too close together to hold both the power supply and a wi-fi mouse receiver. I bought a wi-fi mouse, USB-C adapter, and a small hub to make it all work. Turns out, USB-3 interferes with wi-fi, and the mouse action was jerky. With this mouse you don't have to fuss with any of that stuff. ========================== UPDATE: It turns out that Bluetooth uses the same frequency band with USB-3 AND 2.4 GHz wi-fi (B and G bands). In my case it worked for several months and then, suddenly it quit working. Bluetooth would instantly disconnect the mouse when I started a wi-fi connection. The computer manufacturer replaced the Bluetooth receiver, with no effect. The problem occurred with that computer running Windows 10 on any 2.4 GHz wireless network, but not with Linux or with any other computer. The only common denominator is the Windows Bluetooth driver for that computer, and I think that's probably the problem. From reviews of other Bluetooth mice, every review I found showed that a minority of people report connection problems--regardless of the price of the mouse. The problem appears to be Bluetooth itself, since it shares frequencies with other wireless standards. The software is supposed to handle the shared frequencies without problem, but it may not be iron-clad. I am now using the mouse with another computer, and it still works flawlessly. I leave it on all the time, but the batteries still last for months and months.

Logitech M557 Wireless Bluetooth Mouse
I recently purchased a new laptop computer and wanted a wireless mouse to use with it. This mouse is not only wireless but uses Bluetooth to connect to the computer so there is no transmitter/receiver dongle needed and thus it does not take up a precious USB port. The mouse was very easy to pair to the computer's bluetooth signal using Windows 8.1. It connected right away with no fuss. The mouse seems very responsive when in use. Battery life seems very good - I have yet to replace mine after over 6 months of use. The size of the mouse is on the small side which is good for portability when in use with a laptop. It fits my hand well and the buttons and wheel are well designed and easy to use. There is even a dedicated button for Windows 8 which acts like the Windows key on the keyboard. The wheel controls scrolling and also can be used as a button by pushing it left (for "back" in your browser) and right (for forward in your browser). The mouse uses two AA batteries and has an on/off switch on the bottom so it can be turned off when not in use. There is also a connect button on the bottom which is used when pairing the mouse to a bluetooth equipped computer. I actually own two of these and use one on my Windows laptop and on a MacBook Pro Apple laptop. They have both been trouble free and I would highly recommend them.

Great mouse but loud
I bought this mouse to replace a Logitech M305 that is 8-10 years old and that I have loved and had no issues with until recently. I liked the bluetooth feature, customizable buttons, and price point of this M557. I am using the mouse with a 2013 MacBook Pro and it works great - no connectivity issues and was able to customize the buttons to my liking. The size is great for me, 5'2" female, and offers the portability I need. The only complaint I have is how loud it is. Before purchasing, I read a few reviews that commented on the click noise. I honestly thought those reviewers were just "mouse snobs" as I had never in the past used a mouse that I even thought about how loud the click was. I was sure that it wouldn't bother me. However, after 2 days of use, I can tell the noise is not something I want to listen to everyday. I am a student and am on my computer more than I am away from it most days. That being said, I have ordered a Logitech M330 "silent" mouse to try out. I will keep this bluetooth mouse for our home computer as it works great and was worth the price I paid for it, but I don't see me using it on a daily basis. I think the ergonomics could be a bit better, as well. I've noticed a bit of stiffness in my hand/arm since I've been using it, but hate to attribute it to the mouse until I give it a better test run since I also do a lot of heavy lifting for my job. It may also be important to note that I had no idea my M305 was such a pricy (ie. higher quality) mouse since it was given to me when I was in high school. So maybe that also has something to do with my perspective of the loudness of this M557. Overall, great mouse but a little loud.

Small laptop/tablet BT mouse that works with built-in BT radios
I purchased the Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 2-in-1 Convertible 11.6-inch IPS Touchscreen Laptop(Tablet), Intel Quad Core Processor, 4GB DDR3L, 128GB SSD, HDMI, Bluetooth, Webcam, AC Wifi, Windows 10 Professional and this mouse to be used together. Both came the same day and set both up at the same time. NO receiver is packaged with this mouse. My Yoga laptop/tablet had a built-in BT card combined with the WiFi radio module. The BT version is 4.0 compliant. This mouse works with that BT compliance. Switched on the BT, ran discover on my laptop. Following the directions set forth by Logitech, I was able to instantly get the mouse paired with my laptop. No "0000" code required. Then a problem. The mouse stopped working. Long story, very short -- Windows 10 has a power save option in Device Manager for BT connections. After a short period of time, the BT portion of the WiFi/BT card goes into power save and shuts down. Others here have complained about this problem thinking it was the mouse that died. Solution: Go to Control Panel > Device Manager > BT Adaptor > Properties > Power Management. You can open advanced properties with your admin password. After opening advanced properties, look for "allow computer to turn off this device" and uncheck the box next to this line. This will not allow the computer to turn off the BT setting by itself, unless you so designate. One more thing, any major Windows 10 upgrade will reset this power saving function back on again. You will have to go back and redo what I described again. One quirk of Win 10 that ignores what the end user's preferences are. I hope this glitch gets corrected in future updates. No additional software is needed to operate this BT mouse. It works with the default Microsoft BT drivers. The Logitech software (downloaded from the Logitech web site) gives you extra functions. For me, it works just fine as is. If you are left handed, then to switch orientation of keys, you will need the Logitech software to switch keys and buttons. After fighting my issues, I really like this mouse. NO dongle to keep track of or break. NO software install, unless you have special need. It just works after I found the solution I listed above. Want a good BT mouse, reasonable price and long life, look no further. Take it home and you will not be sorry. The advice I gave above will save you frustration and a needless return defect for something done by the operating system of the computer. One last point -- this mouse has an invisible laser light for movement sensor. This is unlike the red glowing light from other laser type mice. It is not broken, it is using a laser light beam outside the sight range of humans. Also, DO NOT stare into the light port while the mouse is on. You could have problems with vision being burned. This mouse gets my full 5 star rating and deservedly so.

Love this mouse.
My husband allowed me to borrow his mouse when my apple magic mouse stopped working. I liked it so much, that I decided to buy one of my own. I like the mouse because it tends to stay connected, the battery life is very good, it's not too bulky and fits perfectly in my hand. Because I am a video editor, I need a mouse that allows me to easily guide the mouse to make precise selections on the timeline without the mouse pointer running all over the screen in a different direction. That is what my apple magic mouse kept doing. It had a mind of its own. But the Logitech M557 works like a charm. I'm very pleased with my experience. As a mac user, I miss having the ability to swipe left and right using this mouse because it does not include those features. However, I can still right-click and get my shortcut menus and, of course, the scroll button works perfectly as well. I was willing to give up a few comforts for the ease of use with this mouse.

No sleep-wake delay
Have owned for 3 years; just bought 2nd unit for spouse. Size is about 3 1/2 by 2 1/4 by 1 1/4 inches; good for larger hands. good battery life (2 AA). weighty. works on most surfaces (I use it on fuzzy arm of my chair.) No noticeable wake-up lag when using with Windows. Works with W8,W10 and Android tablets. No extraneous buttons on the sides; they are clean. Thumbwheel has a light, satisfactory detent feel. Reliable bluetooth connection & easy to connect. After 3 years, I have had to trim the ends of the back, bottom plastic glide, as they were curling a bit. Wish they offered more colors. I've dropped it on the carpet many times, and the top cover always pops off. I might ask for a little stronger "hold" in that respect. Overall the best I've found, out of many, in a moderate price range for bluetooth mice. The top priority for me has been the lack of sleep - wake delay.

Decent mobile mouse but need ergonomic improvements
I purchased the Logitech M557 bluetooth mouse for just $13 and it was an obvious steal. BT mouse usually cost more than wireless one's and so this was a no brainer. However, there stands to be many improvements to be made for this mouse. Let's go over the pro's first. Pro's: - Connectivity. With a BT mouse, you're usually going to pair it up with a laptop. This means you're free from having a wireless adapter dongle from having to be connected to your laptop all the time. With today's laptop getting thinner and thinner, there just isn't enough USB ports to spare. While you could obviously use a USB hub, this is an inconvenience. For the majority of users, I'm assuming that the mouse will be used very close in proximity to their laptop and so in most cases, connectivity strength will not be a problem. This holds true for all the time's I've used this mouse. - Back/Forward Buttons. The mouse wheel not only scrolls up and down as expected but includes the ability for left and right clicks as well. By default in Windows, this translates to the back button (left press) and forward button (right press). This is very useful when browsing in your browser of choice because no longer are the dedicated back and forward buttons in an awkward location as in most mouse. - Windows Button. The dedicated Windows button right below the wheel by default opens up the Start Menu. I believe you can download the Logitech software to customize what this button can do. I rarely go into the Start menu in Windows 10 so I'll definitely change it to something more useful when I can think of something! - Build Quality. The M557 seems very sturdy and well-built for a mobile mouse. - No Hyper-Scroll. This may be a con for many but I hate Logitech's hyper-scroll wheel feature with a passion! I've had to return a wireless mouse in the past (which I loved) because middle clicking was extremely frustrating and error prone. The M557 does not have this scroll wheel feature and I for one am glad. - Absence of Light. Not sure if this can be considered a pro but be glad to know that there is no optical light whatsoever under the mouse. - Power Switch. Yes, I'm old school. I like a dedicated on/off switch. The mouse does have an energy saving mode but still, nothing beats a power switch! Con's: - Weight. Immediately upon using the mouse I realized that this was not a good sign. I'm using the Logitech M100 as my daily driver (which in my opinion is the best budget wired mouse ever) and switching to the M557 is a night and day difference. The semi good news is that the mouse can actually operate with just one AA battery! It has slots for two but I'm currently using it with only a single battery and have not experienced any issues so far. Trust me, you'll want to do this because that extra battery makes a big difference. It's not a deal breaker but it's weird how other wireless mouse that requires battery and that seem larger in size feels actually a bit lighter than the M557 here. - Ergonomics. The mouse is not that comfortable to use. It has a fairly square design and although there is a slight hump acting for a hand rest, it's not enough. I have very small hands and so I can't imagine how users with larger hands than mine will like this. To be fair though, this is a "mobile" mouse first and foremost so we must understand that some sacrifices must be made. Just realize that using this mouse as your daily driver might be a bit uncomfortable for you. I have no choice but to use the claw style mouse grip with this mouse. This slightly offsets the weight issue since I won't be lifting the mouse a lot (weight con) and the ergonomic con since my palm will be resting on the table instead. - Click Noise. The noise made when clicking on the buttons are fairly audible. This can be quite irritating when used in meetings. This is the complete opposite when scrolling the mouse wheel because that produces almost zero noise. All in all, I think this is a pretty good companion mouse for the mobile user. You're probably not going to want to use it daily but only at times when it is required. You can throw the mouse in your travel bag and have a peace of mind that you won't have to use that crappy touchpad on your laptop.

My second one
I had my first one for over a year and a half and it took a beating as I traveled a lot and it was in and out of my backpack on a daily basis. Despite all that it worked great. I was using it with a surface pro and the bluetooth connection was solid every time. It's very responsive and the sensitivity takes some getting used to, but overall a great mouse. The batteries are supposed to last for an entire year due to the low power consumption of the device, but I probably changed the batteries at least two times in that year and half. So with constant daily use you're not quite getting a year out of the batteries. However, not having to change any batteries for months is really great. I would love a model with a built in rechargeable battery that you would only need to charge once every few months. Recently for whatever reason it suddenly stopped working altogether. Now with that said, I loved it so much I just bought another one and I'm still giving it 5 stars.

Easy to use
This was a replacement BT mouse as the previous one failed. I selected another Logitect as it is a known brand. The mouse has the usual left/right buttons and scroll wheel. Pressing the scroll wheel activates the mouse movement scroll. It had an additional button on top labelled Windows. Pressing this opens up the Search window; I don't use it. There is an audible click when you press the left or right buttons. It does not bother me but it could be intrusive in heavy use.
