Larger format would be better
Gujarati learning resources are hard to come by, and this is a good basic course supplemented by downloadable content. My only criticism is that the small format and font are not conducive to reading or learning Gujarati script.

Chock Full of Typographical and Proofreading Errors
I have some background speaking a reading Gujarati, and this book is FULL of typographical and proofreading errors. Nearly every page has some issue, especially the first part on the script. If this weren't one of the only books available to learn the language as an English speaker, I'd recommend steering clear of it. But since it is one of the only books...

Frustrating but Workable
If it weren't for the absolute dearth of Gujarati-English language instruction texts, I would be giving this text 1 star. That being said, it's much better than most other options. Dwyer is a professor and while her translations are often a little too scholarly/elite, they are on the whole accurate. There are clear rules provided for Gujarati grammar and she explains them with precision. Unfortunately, the text itself is laid out terribly. The text written in Gujarati script is tiny and thus difficult to read – especially for beginners. Instead of outlining what vocabulary you will be learning, the text sprinkles new words throughout the chapter without ever clearly summarizing what was covered. This is especially irksome as there is only a Gujarati-English dictionary at the back – NO English-Gujarati one. Plus, there is a distinct lack of practice questions and no space in the book to work on the few prompts that are offered. In short, it's lousy, but until someone makes a real textbook, this is the best you're going to get.

I missed the window to return it so I'm stuck with it - useless.
I ordered it and the book came with one CD that didn't work in any of my CD players. I exchanged it for another and the CD still didn't work. I missed the window to return it so I'm stuck with it - useless.

Schade...

Where is the rest of the book?
I got an older copy of this from a library, published in 1995, and there’s almost twice as much material! Why has this been omitted from this version? I think the content is very good, so no disrespect to Rachel Dwyer. I was learning the language and enjoying the process with the older version. It isn’t perfect, there are some slight errors, but it’s the best way to learn the language as an English speaker (there’s few other options). I decided to buy this copy as I thought it would be an improvement to the original, but it’s a huge downgrade. I don’t think this is worth the amount they’re charging when so much content is missing. As others have mentioned, the text is also far too small and it’s very hard to read the Gujarati script. My eyesight is fine but I often have to take photos with my phone and zoom in, which is ridiculous! I would recommend trying to find the older copy from a library. The audio I’ve listened to so far still matches the original text anyway. This newer version claims to have a new discovery method, but there isn’t much difference in the way the lessons are structured, and the material that’s missing is very good! Emilia Bachrach has revised this version and basically destroyed it.

Difficult to read
The book appears to be ideal for a beginner, however the lettering is very smalland the printing very faint making reading and concentrating very difficult even with my reading glasses.
