Oatey 43745 Seal for 2 Inch Shower and Floor Drain, Black

I think this drain seal is great and easily worth the price. It stopped odor and drain fly problems in my 4” basement floor drain. Works great with condensate lines as well as larger flows. I’m on about 6 months with mine. I expect it will need replaced every few years or so. But it’s easy put in and take out, no tools. “Doing the job right” costs thousands. So I’m pleased.

Works exactly as described

This is an excellent product! I had been trying to get a drain seal for my floor drain for some time, as my house is on the top of a hill, and due to gravity and having several bathrooms etc, flushing toilets in places further down the hill can suck the standing water out of the floor drain pipe in the laundry room which is at the top of the hill, causing sewer smell to come into the house. The hard plastic drain seals I bought before this are about 4 mil too big as the previous owners of my house wedged a 2cm length of pipe inside the existing drain pipe to attach the floor drain grate to, which can't be removed. As this Oatey seal is rubber, I have been able to insert it into the drain and create a seal below the 2cm section of wedged pipe, where it has been sitting for a number of weeks without moving. There have been spills in that room, and I am pleased to report that water going down the floor drain has not displaced it. Highly recommend to those wishing to stop drain smells coming up through floor drains - this certainly does the job.

I have a upstairs shower that has a faulty P trap and often smells bad. I had to clean the drain every couple of weeks only for it smell bad again. This drain trap fits perfectly in the drain pipe and immediately blocked the smell. So far no issues with slow drainage during or after I take a shower. I would recommend however just manually inspecting it every now then to make sure no hair or gunk remains on the drap trap after a while. Its easy enough to remove and give it good clean and or rinse and then putting it back in place. I like that no tool are required for installation except for a screwdriver which you need to remove your existing shower drain cover. Definitely money well spent as my P trap is not accessible to replace or repair without a major remodel. So this is a cheap and easy fix.

Needed a solution for drain gases. At first I thought this was clogging my shower so I removed. When seasons changed, gases started to appear, so I put back and no clogged drain and no smells this time! Think my shower was just clogged from construction waste at first.
