I got this in paperback for my 8-year-old after he loved The Wild Robot movie. We’re reading it together at bedtime, taking turns, and it’s been a great bonding time. The short chapters (some just a page or two) make it easy for kids to follow along and feel a sense of accomplishment while reading. We often pause to talk about what’s happening right after each one. My son reads well independently, but I’d say this book is age-appropriate for Grade 2/3 readers—with a bit of help on some bigger words. He always wants to read more and gets a little sad when it’s time to put it down, which says a lot. There are a few black-and-white, choppy-style illustrations at key moments, which help bring the scenes to life. Some parts are pretty tense and emotional, but knowing there’s a third book helped ease his worry during those moments. It works as a standalone story, but it does pick up shortly after the first book. Great choice for young readers who enjoy adventure, robots, and strong storytelling.
