Avira Internet Security - 2012 [Old Version]

I love the Avira internet security. Thought that I would scoff these up because I loved them so much at my last install. According to Consumer Reports, they were supposed to be very good. When I received them, I did "try" to install and got an error message that said, "Can't install." After several attempts, I called the company. They told me the licenses have expired. They asked me to send them the license numbers, which I did. They told me they have expired. They asked me where I purchased them. I told them from Amazon. The did send me a license which I could load. Now that is what I call, Customer Service. At this point, I should rate this product a 5 star. Thank you Avira!!! On the other hand, I have never heard of licenses expiring. That is why I gave this product a one star.

Avira used to make the best antivirus out there and the previous version of Avira is still the best. Avira 2010 is the most efficient antivirus you will find on the market - it is fast and protects your PC flawlessly. However, Avira 2012 is a different story. Our company conducted extensive tests before we considered upgrading. First, you cannot selectively disable features such as the background scanner, internet guard, firewall, etc. because the program still keeps them enabled - even though it shows them turned off! Actually, the configuration panel often would not work (more on this below). Second, Avira WebGuard allows ALL outbound connections from your computer UNLESS you use Avira's firewall. After a brief search, we found posts on forums for Outpost, ZoneAlarm, and Microsoft (Windows firewall) all complaining that Avira WebGuard is incompatible with 3rd party firewalls and creates a grave security risk. But worse - we were shocked to find that Avira's paid antivirus SHOVED ADS, JUST LIKE ADWARE, AT OUR DESKTOP! This really blew us away. We could not believe it as we saw ads shoved at us for Facebook contests, gambling, and even a few clickjacking schemes. After opting you into these ads without your permission, we found that disabling them in the configuration panel did no good. The ads still rudely shoved themselves at us. Clicking the "x" did not hide the ads. This is shocking behavior from a company that is supposed to be one of the most reputable antivirus companies. Avira's tech support was shockingly bad. We first tried their online forum. We discovered that we were not the only ones disgusted with Avira's marketing practices. However, as fast as people complained about Avira's advertising popups, Avira forum staff first lied, then deleted those posts, and then would close the thread. Avira telephone support is horrible. As soon as we mentioned that we wanted to turn off advertising, we were placed on hold and eventually disconnected. You can't make this stuff up... I'm glad to report that Avira Antivirus 2012 uninstalls flawlessly.

For some reason when I downloaded this software, it did not work on my PC. I'm using Windows 7 Pro, and it kicked me off the internet. I had to do a restore and I was back on line with my old anti-virus software. Don't know the reason, but that's what happened. The Seller had nothing to do with it, so I'm not faulting him.

i saw the discount and bought it, but its expired.. why do you sell it if it only works in 2012?
